Fed up of the ConDems robbing the poorest and most vulnerable blind? Sympathetic to the squeezed middle? Have you eyes that can see the horrors that await the dismantling of our welfare state and all that is great and good in UK?

Then you're a frother. This is our safe-space to rally, vent and get organised. You are also welcome if you want to be better informed and/or do something.

#Frothers don't join - #frothers ARE. Check out the blog for information and actions you can take, like us on www.facebook.com/frothers Facebook for bite-sized chunks of frothiness you can read, like and share, or get ye to Twitter and tweet your frustrations using the #frothers hashtag or follow us @TMC_frothers.

Canestan + a dose of moral obligation.

FontSnob · 16/12/2011 23:13

Just wanted to pop in as am away for the weekend. Just read the blog post by opinionatedmum, it was fantastic and really made me rethink going over to a rolling contract when we renew.

Frothing gussets made me laugh.

I'm wondering how many threads I'll be needing to catch up in by the time I get back! Make sure you leave a trail.

TapselteerieO · 16/12/2011 23:14

I have just watched Inside Job - Matt Damon narrated, these cuts are because of this, the banks and financial institutions are the puppeteers of the Government - who said "the Government is the shadow cast on society by big business" ?

MmeLindor. · 17/12/2011 09:58

Monday Mythbuster

How about that as a weekly post?

"You just have to say that you have a bad back, and you get DLA and a mobility car.."

"Teachers get a huge pension"

etc?

glasnost · 17/12/2011 10:08

It's not because of the banks, the banks TapselteerieO. These are the death throes of a clapped out, corrupt, kaput economic system. If banks were nationalised none of this could've happened. Barking up the wrong tree.

And frothing may be self gratifying (espesh into gussets ooerr) but what is your objective here? You're not gonna bring down govts by frothing. But I'm not sure that's even what you wanto do tbh.

What DO you wanto do with all this frothing? The only way to influence govt policy is to physically protest or - better still - strike. End of. But feel free to froth away.

I don't know about the others, but I think that Shirley's post today pretty much sums it up for me Here

Of course we won't bring down the government, but if we can make some people like Shirl's family see that things are not quite as they are being painted, then I think that it will help.

It is not about telling the politicians what we think, but about reaching the normal people who have not noticed what these cuts will mean to them. Maybe not now, but in a year, two years, five years, a decade.

claig · 17/12/2011 10:46

I'm not a frother, but the frothers have done some excellent work.
Shirl's post is spot on. It is about raising consciousness, educating people, pointing out injustice and hardship, opening eyes, changing hearts and minds and giving people a voice. That's politics, that can change people's minds and change society.

It's not about overthrowing a government, just to bring in another government that does exactly the same. It's about getting a government to listen and try to change its mind.

If enough people see the light, then the government may do what's right.

claig · 17/12/2011 10:53

Also, it's not the death throes of the capitalist system. Worse has happened before and the system continued. The Great Crash had people jumping out of skyscrapers as they were financially ruined, but the system carried on. This is about the banks, Tapsel is right. Some people have said this is the biggest daylight robbery of the public since time began. It's not the end of capitalism, just a huge transfer of wealth away from the public.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 17/12/2011 11:00

claig whydontcha join us ?

claig · 17/12/2011 11:06

I'm still a Tory. I don't agree with everything they do, but I don't see a better alternative. I think they are caught between a rock and a hard place. They didn't cause it and they have to try and solve it.

The blogs by AnyFucker, ShirleyKnot, HuntyCat and so many others are excellent and there is nothing I can really add.

Hullygully · 17/12/2011 11:12

ok - as far as I can tell the pome should appear tomoz...

Froth On!

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 17/12/2011 11:16

Tory/not Tory

That isn't what this is about

We need people who did vote Tory to say they are unhappy with the pace of what is happening, and the groups of people that are paying the highest price (through no fault of their own)

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 17/12/2011 11:17

I can't wait Hully ! Xmas Grin

Hullygully · 17/12/2011 11:29

Disappointment loometh, Af...

MmeLindor. · 17/12/2011 11:32

Claig
You are exactly what we need. A Tory who sees what we are trying to say.

I don't know if there is an alternative, and I do see that the past sins of the Labour governments certainly contributed to the mess.

There was an excellent article recently that put the blame between Thatcherism and Blairism. One followed the other, without the first the latter would not have developed.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 17/12/2011 11:33

No, Hully, I don't think it does

An alternative way of looking at things is just what we need

Something eye catching

claig · 17/12/2011 11:40

The situation is never hopeless. Governments do listen to the people, they are not dictatorships. They use focus groups etc. to get a feel for what people are thinking and sometimes adapt their policies. So frothing and making voices heard all influence what happens.

Yes, all of the politicians are partially to blame. However, they are also battered by forces and events outside the control of any one nation state. They are hostage to the "markets" and to some extent pawns in the game.

MmeLindor. · 17/12/2011 12:09

Marmite posted in the comments of my Welfare State post

I was going to argue that higher wages would lead to increased food costs. But I just had a look at Tesco's financial summary: Tesco £14 300 profit per employee in 2010, and this is projected to increase this year. www.tescoplc.com/investors/financials/five-year-summary/ Why can't they pass more of this onto employees? How could we force them to do that?

I tweeted this and have had a lot of response, RTs etc.

Tesco made £14300 profit per employee last year, so why are they using Workfare employees, paid by our taxes? t.co/tMLdZThB #frothers

Can you all RT this and get people talking.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 17/12/2011 12:13

I don't know how to retweet a link, other than just to retweet your post

I don't get it, still haven't fully sussed out twitter

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 17/12/2011 12:13

I don't how to do links in twitter

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 17/12/2011 12:16

I am not using twitter properly, nor to its full potential, I have realised

MmeLindor. · 17/12/2011 12:25

Are you using Twitter on PC, AF?

Hover over my tweet about Tesco, and you have the option. Reply, Retweet, Favourite.

Retweet - to pass on to your followers

Favourite - if you want to come back and read again later.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 17/12/2011 12:38

ok

I have just had a bit of a lightbulb

I was thinking of the "retweet" thing done immediately as a bit of a waste of time, I forgot that some of your followers would not be the same as mine

I didn't know about the favourite thing too...so you can come back later and retweet without having to scrol back to find the original

I just haven't thought this through properly, just rushed into it last week

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 17/12/2011 12:39

where do your "favourites" get put then ?

MmeLindor. · 17/12/2011 12:41

Click on your name, AF and it takes you to your profile. That is where you can find your favourites.

yy, because you have different followers, it gets passed on. And hopefully multiplies.

Seems to be doing that, and the blog is getting lots of hits.
