Fed up of the ConDems robbing the poorest and most vulnerable blind? Sympathetic to the squeezed middle? Have you eyes that can see the horrors that await the dismantling of our welfare state and all that is great and good in UK?

Then you're a frother. This is our safe-space to rally, vent and get organised. You are also welcome if you want to be better informed and/or do something.

#Frothers don't join - #frothers ARE. Under Six and Homeless

MmeLindor. · 16/12/2011 13:16

Will do, and will work on a Round Up.

MmeLindor. · 16/12/2011 13:18

What do you think about putting the Kid Rock song on the blog?

Could be a post where we put it on and ask people to sign in if they care.

MmeLindor. · 16/12/2011 13:21

sorry am thread hogging again.

Techy people -

Does blogger offer anythign like the swooshy recent post thing I have on my blog look where you scroll to the bottom and it suggests related content.

It is FAB for getting people to read on.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete · 16/12/2011 13:29

I can't see what you mean on your blog.

Unless you mean the tag cloud?

MmeLindor. · 16/12/2011 13:36

when you scroll down to the end of the article, a bar comes out from the right side, with suggestions for other similar posts.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete · 16/12/2011 13:37

Oh I see it!

Hmm, give me a mo and I'll see if it's one of the offered options.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete · 16/12/2011 13:40

...not at first glance. Do you remember whta it was called?

MmeLindor. · 16/12/2011 13:54

It is called nRelate Flyout looks like a WP plug in though

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete · 16/12/2011 14:03

hmm. Oddly, some people seem to claim you can use that plug-in on blogger but I can't see how. Have tweeted nRelate and hopefully they'll get back to us.

If anyone has the time we need to clean up the tags on the post a little, for eg I have noticed both toomanycuts and too many cuts is being used as a tag which is a bit messy. (and do we need either? I'm not sure)

ProgressivePatriot · 16/12/2011 14:16

bonafide lefty frother here...

i don't know which way you're all planning to vote at a local/national level the next time around (elections tend to come around alarmingly quickly ime) but can i post this for your perusal and see if i can't pick the wonderful Caroline Lucas and the Green Party up a few more votes?

Green Party Policy

It's just a wonderful vision of an alternative to the godforsaken 'free market' capitalism we're enduring at present. Very well thought through, comprehensive and egalitarian. And a great answer to anyone claiming 'there is no alternative'.

Also, Chomsky's recent 'Hope and Prospects' is amazing if you get a chance to read it.

AvadventKalendar · 16/12/2011 14:56

Just to confirm for the records that I voted Conservative last election and I am frothing. It's not just lefties who care!

[shan't be voting Tory again emote]

I'll be away this weekend as to be quite honest need a break from frothing, you don't realise how it can drag you down Sad

OpinionatedMum · 16/12/2011 15:01

Have just noticed this on shelter's facebook wall

www.mirror.co.uk/news/city-news/2011/12/16/45-000-families-may-have-homes-repossessed-in-2012-115875-23638313/#ixzz1gh4KGGkF

That will be on top of the estimated 40,000 families made homeless by the HB cuts.

THIS COUNTRY IS SLEEPWALKING INTO HOMELESS FAMILIES CRISIS

OpinionatedMum · 16/12/2011 15:03

I would vote green if I thought they stood a chance. I was disappointed when AV was rejected, I thought it might give the greens a real chance.

AvadventKalendar · 16/12/2011 15:06

OM, excellent blog post.

I've been were you are, this time last year. Christmas was bleak Sad it truly can happen to anyone without warning and through no falt of their own - relationship breakdown in my case.

Have read back a bit and loving the idea of 12 Days of Christmas, Dickensian Christmas, re-writing the nativity, posting victories etc. I know I've said it before but I really am in awe of all your smart types Xmas Blush

I am not forgetting I said I would do a blog post but having a bit of trouble getting the thoughts down into words - well words in an order that makes sense at least.

AvadventKalendar · 16/12/2011 15:08

oops hadn't finished..

re: tory/lib dem voters not knowing the full picture - well I thought of looking to see who follows the parties on twitter and @ing one or two each time a RT or post goes up. Time consuming yes but that's the kind of thing I have plenty time to do as am sat on my arse/lying down most of the day, if you all think it's a good idea?

ShirleyKnot · 16/12/2011 15:13

Ava - I think it would be BERILLIANT if you could write a post and tell people that you voted tory - just to stop all the lefty bollocks stuff.

(Yes, I think most of us on these threads are a little more left than right - BUT, BUT, BUT!! This is apolitical!)

AvadventKalendar · 16/12/2011 15:22

Yes I agree, it is.

I have voted Labour all my life and was only this election that I simply couldn't bring myself to do it again with the way things were going.

Lib Dem is usually a wasted vote. A Conservative vote when you live in Scotland means not a lot really Grin so I knew it wouldn't make a difference at a local level.

What can I say? I didn't know too much about politics and all those survey things with statements you agreed on, all pointed to me voting Tory so I read more into them and thought yeah that sounds good, he's a decent bloke, his son died so he'll be compassionate, all the Big Society stuff appealed to me.

I was dazzled by Shiny Dave and I thought that he really did mean all he said and was honest and trustowrthy enough - as politicians go! - to follow it through. I was wrong.

I am trying to put that right now by doing all I can to raise awareness.

AvadventKalendar · 16/12/2011 15:24

Thinking out loud for ideas for the 12 days of Christmas, how about a ghost of xmas past, present future thing?

garlicnutcracker · 16/12/2011 15:24

Have almost done navigation (and want a medal!) Am liberally commenting the scripts in case anyone wants to change 'em later.

The 'Sitemap' was the best I could do but I am doing a breadcrumbs script, which should at least let visitors see where they are. I tried to put an alphabetical tag list on the sitemap page but gave up after staying up all night.

Agree with dire warnings about making Frothers appear politically biased. This stuff transcends party politics. The people most likely to be horrified - too late - are those who trust the Cons/Dems to do the right thing. If we make ourselves look like Government-haters and Lefties, we'll instantly lose our most important audience.

Speaking of audience - I'm Digging, Stumbling and Delicious-ing every single post, but seem to be the only one who is. Please, anybody who does social networking, remember to get the word out in as many ways as possible. Kate can't do it all (though doing a brilliant job of ot all right now!)

We're far too dependent on Mumsnet for traffic, and while MNers count for a lot, we can't keep talking amonsgt ourselves.

I want to do a post about misperceptions of welfare (propaganda, heh) but am in desperate need of a frothy break.

On a slightly more scary note, the US has brought back imprisonment for debt. It may interest you to know that A4 group put in a massive bid for privately-run prisons a few years back. It was watered down, but the original remains on the table. They will build enormous, cheap prisons out of shipping containers and run them using their security arm. Which is already winning Government contracts all over the place for welfare 'reform' enforcement.

So that might answer the question of "where is this wall that the weak & homeless shall go to?" It might be a big box, owned by A4 group. They'll probaby let you out to do your shift at the sewage plant, or whatever.

Wish I had shares in the fucker.

MmeLindor. · 16/12/2011 15:39

Garlic
Interesting to know that you are using Stumbleupon. I started using it recently for the blog and I do think that it is worthwhile. Will do so for the Frother blog too.

I tweet, FB posts but yes, we do still get a lot of traffic from MN and need to improve on that.

OK. I would like to have a plan sketched out for the Xmas period so that we are a bit ahead of ourselves. Anyone who thinks of something please C&P the list and add yourselves.

I thought we could try and do something that goes with the rhyme of the 12 days of Xmas (which will start on 26th)? Am I right in thinking the 12 days start on Boxing Day?

If you would like to write a post, you can put it up in advance, and schedule it for the right day or have one of the admins post it for you.

I am in bossy mood today, so tell me to feck off if you want something done differently if you dare

We have

Pipers piping - the effects of the cuts in Scotland maybe?

The lords and ladies should be straightforward, a write up of those who are trying to change the wrb and how?

OpinionatedMum · 16/12/2011 16:02

How do you get people to retweet? Do you have to be friends with them or can you just message them?

I was wondering how we could request public figures to retweet us.
