I'm a Christian, I believe in God.

I don't have a lot of faith in the Church, though!

Hope this doesn't deteriorate into a slanging match though, these threads often do.

ItalyLovingMummy · 21/06/2010 21:04

Deemented - your post made me want to cry. I'm so sorry.

All I know is that when things go wrong or if I am worried about family or friends I pray to God and I don't go to church regularly or anything. However, I still know right from wrong and I don't think you have to actively go to church to be that way. I don't care what other people believe in as long as they aren't enforcing opinions on others. My best friend has been gradually slipping away from me since she has become a Jehovahs Witness, unfortunately she has a sense of superiority these days and is always telling me what to do and putting me down, but is not one who should be judging others - he who casts the first stone....

VirtualPA · 21/06/2010 21:04

Ifancyashandy I do yes.

From what I understand / have been told hell is in the centre of the world but I'm not sure where heaven is. I suppose it would be in the sky but i'm not sure

Well, the name is just vile, and the website just seems so self-satisfied and smug, I'm afraid. What's wrong with (say) the Humanist Society, if you want to join a group?

SolidGoldBrass · 21/06/2010 21:07

Nope. And I find it utterly incomprehensible that educated, allegedly intelligent people do believe in gods. I can just about accept that clever people might have the view that there's Something (nebulous and unspecified) Out There though I'll only believe it myself when proper proof is demonstrated, but that people take this Bronze Age social control bullshit seriously in the 21st century is just wierd. And fairly depressing.

harleyd · 21/06/2010 21:08

nope

Alouiseg · 21/06/2010 21:08

No.

verytellytubby · 21/06/2010 21:10

Nope.

ladysybil · 21/06/2010 21:10

i believe in God. ie a supreme being who created the cosmos. why? because i also believe in science, and science tells me that their is no mathematical probablity that this entire universe came about on its own

which god? well, my faith isnt strong enough to get into some of the arguments/discussions that go on and on and on. sometimes yes, but usully no.

PandaG · 21/06/2010 21:10

yes, am Christian.

mumoftrio · 21/06/2010 21:11

yes, I am a christian too

Soapsy · 21/06/2010 21:16

winesgoodplease · 21/06/2010 21:16

EleanorHandbasket's post made me smile though

catbus · 21/06/2010 21:19

No. I am a dyslexic agnostic and believe in Dog..

Hazeyjane · 21/06/2010 21:21

No.

Raised strict Catholic.

bilbobobbins · 21/06/2010 21:23

Yes. I became a christian when i was 21. Was raised a devout agnostic (i.e. definitely not sure what to believe) now believe in heaven, hell, a man raised from the dead and all that sort of stuff

expatinscotland · 21/06/2010 21:24

Yes.

UnquietDad · 21/06/2010 21:25

No. I used to (vaguely), but becoming an atheist was part of a growing-up process for me. I can no more un-become one now than I could un-learn French, or forget how to be a parent.

Psammead · 21/06/2010 21:26

No. I believe in good and evil and that it's all a personal struggle for everyone - but not in any personification of that.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 21/06/2010 21:27

yes and no depending on my mood

I think that after we die, the energy that is us, our consciousness, does not cease to exist. I believe that it continues in some form. Maybe in whatever form it chooses! Freed from the body. Who knows.

I think it's possible that there is a being who has set all this in motion but I don't believe the argument that there HAS to be a god because of the complexity of the universe. That argument means that God was created. And the being that created God was created... and down that road lies madness

I want to believe in God because it comforts me. I like to think there is a plan for everything that I go through and that even if I don't see it at the time, I am being guided down the road I was meant to travel and that will bring me to the place I need to be.

I don't believe in religion though.

mamasmissionimpossible · 21/06/2010 21:28

Yes I do.

Rockbird · 21/06/2010 21:29

Yes. Was raised and still am Catholic.

LynetteScavo · 21/06/2010 21:30

Yes.

I believe in angels, anyway, and I guess there wouldn't be angels without God.

I don't believe in Hell or the devil, though.

scrimble · 21/06/2010 21:31

Raised a Protestant. Was 'on the fence' for years, not sure what to make of it.

I feel very much freer since I got off the fence and turned my back on religion. Looking at religious belief now, it just doesn't make any sense to me.

CoteDAzur · 21/06/2010 21:31

No, I don't believe in God. Never have.
