Fed up with Jehovah's Witnesses calling at my door

I am fed up of having Jehovah's Witnesses knocking on my door. I mean each to their own, but you don't get people from the church of England knocking on your door trying to recruit you. I just think it's out of order that they go around trying to recruit people into some weird cult.

You have to be firm and clear. I just tell them 'I don't believe in a God and I'm not interested in what you have to say. No, I don't want your leaflets. Bye' and shut the door. DH chats away to them and thinks I'm rude. My Mum had a great long chat with one when DD1 was a new baby telling them all about our family and it took years before they stopped knocking on the door. She's the same on trains, always chats away to strangers. Sigh.

I thought they stopped doing this. They stand outside train stations now.

Yes that was my understanding. Now they stand in town centres and stations..I though their policy now was not to approach people or knock at doors. We haven't had any knocking at our door for years

There were 8 of them wandering up and down my street this afternoon.

I will have to be firmer with them next time!

I have found that the best way to deter them is to leave a besom broom and a witches cauldron permanently parked outside your front door - they won't dare approach.

elliejjtiny · 16/04/2026 21:54

They think they are doing the right thing/God's will.

They come and knock on our door occasionally and we live in a vicarage! I told them thanks and nice meeting them but did they realise that they were wasting their time? They cheerfully said they liked to get round to everyone and went off to the next house.

begonefoulclutter · 16/04/2026 21:54

I believe if you contact them at your local Kingdom Hall, they will cross your address off their list and not bother you any more. Read this on MN a while ago I think.

Pasta4Dinner · 16/04/2026 21:56

They skip mine since I told them I was Catholic. I’m not really anymore but was enough to put them off.

Same, I'm Catholic, I just tell them thanks but I've got my own Church.

BeMellowAquaSquid · 16/04/2026 21:57

They skip mine now I told them we’re Pagan but to be fair they’re pretty harmless.

We get long handwritten letters posted through the letterbox! I feel a bit bad binning them because they’ve clearly spent a good few mins writing, but I’m not bloody interested!

Tel12 · 16/04/2026 21:59

Just buy a sign from Amazon, no cold callers, religious groups etc

nocoolnamesleft · 16/04/2026 21:59

I tend to tell them that I firmly believe in blood transfusion.

Sparkleandfizz · 16/04/2026 22:04

I might just tell them I can't wait for December so that I can put my Christmas tree up!

I can't believe that they would refuse a blood transfusion for their child 😢

Tell them you used to be one yourself and were kicked out.
They'll back away in horror.

Had a few of these too, just so strange!

We have them sometimes too. I just tell them I’m Catholic and happy as I am. They accept that and move on.

I have been there when it happened. Though with children, if it is truly essential, basically they will still get the transfusion and the lawyers will argue about it later. Though it's prudent to have two consultants agreeing its immediately life saving. Interestingly, if the parents refuse but the doctors (and legal team) force it, they won't be disfellowshipped. If they give consent, the community will throw them out.

I thought about one of these because we get constant charity callers and window cleaners etc....do people actually respect them or just call anyway?

I have had one like this for years, sometimes it doesn't work (some guys reckoned they couldn't read last year for instance 🙄) but since I got my video doorbell I have seen lots of people walk up to my door, look at the sign and walk away. I think there were some JWs on our estate last month (groups of very smartly dressed people, with children, meeting up on the corners) but nobody knocked on my door.
