Fed up with Jehovah's Witnesses calling at my door

I am fed up of having Jehovah's Witnesses knocking on my door. I mean each to their own, but you don't get people from the church of England knocking on your door trying to recruit you. I just think it's out of order that they go around trying to recruit people into some weird cult.

I also thought they didn't do this anymore but had 3 knock on my door last week, what I didn't like was that they had a child with them.

I don't like it when they drag the children around with them.

I was approached in town by a couple of these. At the time my OH was dying so they got pretty short shift from me on the subject of their loving god!

I believe if you contact them at your local Kingdom Hall, they will cross your address off their list and not bother you any more. Read this on MN a while ago I think.

That’s really good to know.

Some time ago I cheerfully told them I was perfectly satisfied with my current religion, thanked them for thinking of me and hoped they had a good day.

One of them smiled ruefully (?) wished me a good day too and they haven’t knocked since even though they have been back to this street.

StrictlyCoffee · 17/04/2026 08:48

I think if you tell them not to come again then they should take your name off the list. But likewise I think they tend to stand more in town centres etc these days. I understand it’s part of their religion to do this and I’m always polite enough but I don’t think it’s right they drag kids out with them. Last lot I had at mine had a wee boy around 8 or 9 all dressed up in a suit with them. Poor kid.

Can we just take a minute to think about the victims of this cult (young women) and how we could show them that we are listening or here as an escalation point?

Why only women? And no, I’m not here as an escalation point. I don’t have the skills or the inclination to help a stranger flee from a cult.

On the blood transfusion piece, parents know that even if they don’t comsent it’ll likely be in the child’s best interests so will be done anyway, which is ok with the elders as it’s the doctors who have defied Jehovah not the parents

It's so frustrating 🙄

It really is. The last time I was expecting guests and I said no, but rather than accepting it they responded with 'what is your name?'. I was like 'no, no, sorry...I'm really anti..erm...this!' and had to shut the door on them.

I think the problem lies in that my mum took one of their bizarre brochures with fire and brimstone on the cover out of politeness. This was probably ten years ago now but since then I can't seem to get rid of them. Despite my pleas to head office.

Recent Sunday callers have all been of the political variety though. Maybe the JW take a break during voting season so not to compete with other door knockers?!

This is just devastating, those poor children😭

I know! It's so upsetting. There was an opportunity to save her life, but he just let her die.

With children, the medics take the parents to court and the transfusion is allowed to go ahead.

I had a friend once whose adult DD became a JW. All her DM got upset about was the fact her GC weren't allowed to celebrate Christmas and birthdays. That would have been the least of my worries!

Jasmin71 · 17/04/2026 09:34

My dad used to use this line

" If it wasn't for a blood transfusion when I was a child, I wouldn't be standing here talking to you"

It was the truth and they would look embarrassed and go away.

We get Mormons here, from Utah, in Northern Ireland. I find it bonkers that they fly them the whole way over here to recruit people to the church. They made the fatal mistake a few years ago of saying to my friend and I,

"Hi - are you protestant or catholic?'

HUGE no no. HUGE. Not in NI. No no.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 17/04/2026 10:19

Tell them this:
It is your birthday. Would they like to join you for some birthday celebrations.

They don’t celebrate birthdays, so they’ll scuttle away sharpish.

I used to work with lots of JWs, and it was Jane’s* birthday, and i wanted to take her out for lunch.
She asked if we could do it the following week, otherwise it would be a birthday celebration.

That’s how strongly they feel about it!

Ficinothricegreat · 17/04/2026 10:22

Not seen them since I answers the door in my Iron Maiden t shirt and told them I was a practising occultist.

But tbf, I’d rather have them than the local Green Party candidate, I’ll generally chat to anyone about anything but the Green Party’s manifesto seems far fetched even for someone who summons demons😂

FeeLipa · 17/04/2026 10:37

Quite a few years ago we had a friend staying with us for several months. (Very messy situation where the house left to him by his deceased parents was being rented out by his aunt and uncle but he couldn't get the tenants evicted to sell the house to buy his own.) He was religious and spoke to them quite a lot. He used them basically as free therapy.

They still often knock to see if he's here. They are very persistent in their cause.

I haven’t seen Mormons for a long time. Am also in NI. Mind you, the area I live in now has a church every ten feet, so we’re grand for religion thanks. I remember the Mormons when I was young though. Very well dressed and clean cut and carrying rucksacks. They originally wore suits, then started to dress a bit more casually. But everything about them was so ironed and clean you could spot them a mile away. My dad told them to piss off when they came to our door. I felt a bit sorry for them. The only time my dad was EVER rude to anyone was when they tried to sell him religion. Imagine being an excited Mormon waiting with bated breath to find out which unenlightened outpost you were being sent to. And it turns out to be Belfast. Bummer😂

My driving instructor used to sing 'Good Mormon, good mormmmmmmmmmon' out the window to them. Why are they always so clean cut anyway? And then allow their men to have like a dozen wives?

You need to say the specific words

" I deny you the implied right of access to my property "

this specifically tells them that they aren't like the postman or Ocado having the implied right to open your gate and walk up your path to deliver something to your property. Tell them it applies to the whole group of the JWs not just the person you're talking to.

or tell them you're a Jedi and have no interest in changing from that perspective.

You need to say the specific words

" I deny you the implied right of access to my property "

"F**k off" also works :)

This has reminded me that I need to see Book of Mormon again.

8TinyToeBeans · 17/04/2026 11:18

We got them occasionally but last time I told them I am pagan - which is true, as evidenced by the hagstone and besom inside the door - and they've never returned. They've never been pushy.

SummerFrog2026 · 17/04/2026 11:22

Tryagain26 · 16/04/2026 21:49

Yes that was my understanding. Now they stand in town centres and stations..I though their policy now was not to approach people or knock at doors. We haven't had any knocking at our door for years

Edited

We still get them here (SE). But they're not persistent when you say 'not for me, thanks' I was actually on the phone when they knocked the other day, I pointed to my phone, he raised his hand in acknowledgement & moved on. He didn't even knock again on his way back. I don't mind them (even though I don't have a religious bone in my body & they've got less than no chance of ever changing my mind!!)

BridgetJonesV2 · 17/04/2026 11:26

I don't have an issue with JW's - the ones I have met/known are born into it, they are brain washed from birth and anyone daring to question is shunned/exiled from family. They marry other JW's, their children are given the same life that they had, and they largely only socialise in the JW circle. I was horrified when one removed her then teenage DD's from school as education isn't valued at all. One was incredibly clever, and the school were very vocal in trying to encourage them to stay but she wasn't allowed by her father/grandfather. It's a very socially enabled form of coercive control of women/girls if you look into it all.

Hence I'm always very polite if we get them at the door, and explain that whilst I understand why they are there I don't share their beliefs and never will.

Jehovah's Witnesses are allowed organ transplants as long as they have no blood transfusions.

Really? I didn't know that.

though I would have thought it rare not to need blood during a transplant, so I'd have thought the hospital would refuse to do a transplant unless permission was given for blood transfusion? (So as not to risk 'wasting' the transplant?

murasaki · 17/04/2026 11:42

Back when I was a kid, my dad invited them in for a cup of tea and a chat. He was the lay member for the Diocesan Synod, and very well read. Half an hour later they shuffled out and never darkened our door again...

Yellowpapersun · 17/04/2026 11:47

Years ago I used to see them coming round in groups but they left our house out. I later found out it was because the woman we bought the house from was a dragon. They called a few months ago and I just politely said I wasn't interested and declined a leaflet. I bought a No Cold Callers sticker for the front door and they haven't returned.

wishingonastar101 · 17/04/2026 11:48

Pretend they are trick or treaters... offer a tub of last years haribo or shout 'trick' and run away!

wishingonastar101 · 17/04/2026 11:49

Oh, also, apparently they hate Smurfs.
