What is your favourite bible verse?

I’m feel down and thought this thread might cheer me up. I look forward to looking up everyone’s verses.

My favourites, especially the latter, are Hebrews 13:5 "I will never leave you nor forsake you", and Psalm 23:6 "Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. " I love those words so much.

Isn’t it so wondrous to think of our Lord singing these psalms as He faced the culmination of His earthly ministry?

I only learned about the Hallel psalms in the last year when I got a copy of the New Community Bible, which has very good notes and cross references - I'd recommend it. I'd also advise getting the Catholic version so it will have all the Wisdom literature and novellas.

Ever so slightly off topic but I can highly recommend This book - The God Story to anyone wanting to look at the whole story of scripture in a fresh way. It takes you through all the way from Genesis to Revelation and it’s brilliant. It’s just been released and a few churches near to me are teaching through the book at the minute - I’m really enjoying reading the book, and listening to various sermons to get more insight into God’s big story - it is so full of hope!

Zechariah 3:17

Lapsed catholic, agnostic. But 'do unto others' I think is relevant day in day out.

This has always helped in times of distress/fear/challenge for me:
Isaiah 58:9 – Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.
I never feel like I am alone as I feel he walks with me.

Revelations 21 v 4 : "And he (God) will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away."

Philippians 4 v 6, 7 : "Do not be anxious over anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving, let your petitions be made known to God, and the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your mental powers by means of Christ Jesus."

I find this a huge comfort, that not only does God know the tough times that we go through, but He takes the effort to collect up our tears, and keep them. We only take the effort to collect things that are precious, and it’s a reminder of our value. Jesus doesn’t just see our sorrow, He meets us in it.

Thank you for this thread. Life is hard at the moment and feels very scary and bleak most days. It's good to remember that we can share our burdens with God, and be comforted. Sending prayers too for those of you that are also in need.

I've always loved Romans - "If God is for us, who can be against us?" It always feels very hopeful.

I'm not religious at all (not against it, just struggle to believe) but these have been lovely and comforting to read, so thankyou for sharing.

It shows that while I'm personally not religious, it's not hard to see why with beautiful quotes like this and how it must help people get through difficult times.

I have so many favourite verses and today will be a different one from yesterday and also from tomorrow. I've enjoyed reading those shared here.

The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my saviour; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.

Psalm 91 is powerful if you're feeling the effects of spiritual warfare.
