I’m feel down and thought this thread might cheer me up. I look forward to looking up everyone’s verses.

OP posts:

My favourites, especially the latter, are Hebrews 13:5 "I will never leave you nor forsake you", and Psalm 23:6 "Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. " I love those words so much.

There are so many, but I start each day with a verse from Psalm 118; 'This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad'.

There are days when it seems more obvious than others. It is one of the 'Hallel psalms' that Jews sing at Passover, and was sung by Jesus after the Last Supper before he headed out into the garden, knowing what was coming. It is used in churches over Easter.

Isn’t it so wondrous to think of our Lord singing these psalms as He faced the culmination of His earthly ministry?
oh it makes me tremble 🙌🏻

Thankyou so much everyone! I will enjoy looking back at this thread again and again.

We are in a hard season of life at the moment. Small children, lack of sleep, lots of illness and juggling work.

Very glad I found this Christian corner of mumsnet.

@MarigoldSpider
the LORD bless you and keep you
the LORD make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you
the LORD lift up His countenance upon you
and give you peace 🙏🏻
amen 🙌🏻

I only learned about the Hallel psalms in the last year when I got a copy of the New Community Bible, which has very good notes and cross references - I'd recommend it. I'd also advise getting the Catholic version so it will have all the Wisdom literature and novellas.

My current prayer is that I am not a "lukewarm" christian, half in and half out depending on the day or my mood or who I am surrounded by.”

oh this!
praying for you, please pray for me too xx

I will!

'the Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you. He will rejoice over you with singing. He will quiet you with his love.' think it's from Zechariah but can't remember the reference!

Lapsed catholic, agnostic. But 'do unto others' I think is relevant day in day out.

For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

2 Corinthians 5:14 - 15

Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but reduces with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.

“…Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.
When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour…”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭43‬:‭1‬-‭3‬

May you see His faithfulness in the midst of your deep waters and troubled pathways. 💐

This has always helped in times of distress/fear/challenge for me:
Isaiah 58:9 – Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.
I never feel like I am alone as I feel he walks with me.

Revelations 21 v 4 : "And he (God) will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away."

Philippians 4 v 6, 7 : "Do not be anxious over anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving, let your petitions be made known to God, and the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your mental powers by means of Christ Jesus."

“You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.”

I find this a huge comfort, that not only does God know the tough times that we go through, but He takes the effort to collect up our tears, and keep them. We only take the effort to collect things that are precious, and it’s a reminder of our value. Jesus doesn’t just see our sorrow, He meets us in it.

Psalm 42:

As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, my God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?
My tears have been my food
day and night,
while people say to me all day long,
“Where is your God?”
These things I remember
as I pour out my soul:
how I used to go to the house of God
under the protection of the Mighty One
with shouts of joy and praise
among the festive throng.
Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.
My soul is downcast within me;
therefore I will remember you
from the land of the Jordan,
the heights of Hermon - from Mount Mizar.
Deep calls to deep
in the roar of your waterfalls;
all your waves and breakers
have swept over me.
By day the Lord directs his love,
at night his song is with me -
a prayer to the God of my life.
I say to God my Rock,
“Why have you forgotten me?
Why must I go about mourning,
oppressed by the enemy?”
My bones suffer mortal agony
as my foes taunt me,
saying to me all day long,
“Where is your God?”
Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.

Peace be with you @MarigoldSpider.

That is awful.

I will never leave you nor forsake you.

also

And lo, I will be with you always, even till the ends of the earth.

Yes.

Isaiah (can't remember the verse)
'Do not be afraid, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name. You are mine'.

StarlitBeauty · 14/10/2024 21:12

I find it difficult to choose just one!
A couple that come to mind are:,

Exodus 14:14 (ESV)
“The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.””
‭‭
John 10:10

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
‭‭

FanFckingTastic · 15/10/2024 11:58

Thank you for this thread. Life is hard at the moment and feels very scary and bleak most days. It's good to remember that we can share our burdens with God, and be comforted. Sending prayers too for those of you that are also in need.

I've always loved Romans - "If God is for us, who can be against us?" It always feels very hopeful.

EmmaEmEmz · 15/10/2024 12:21

I'm not religious at all (not against it, just struggle to believe) but these have been lovely and comforting to read, so thankyou for sharing.

It shows that while I'm personally not religious, it's not hard to see why with beautiful quotes like this and how it must help people get through difficult times.

Thegreatestoftheseislove · 15/10/2024 14:48

I have so many favourite verses and today will be a different one from yesterday and also from tomorrow. I've enjoyed reading those shared here.

The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my saviour; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.
