I’m feel down and thought this thread might cheer me up. I look forward to looking up everyone’s verses.

Matthew 11..
Come to me all who are heavy laden and I will give you rest.

It sums it up for me, and has helped me let go.

Are you OK?

MumChp · 12/10/2024 21:40

This!

What is your favourite bible verse?
merryhouse · 12/10/2024 21:42

God is love; and those who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.

RobertaSaunter · 12/10/2024 21:42

Mark 8:36

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?

Helps me to keep my integrity and means I sleep soundly (ish - anxiety insomnia notwithstanding!).

MumChp · 12/10/2024 21:44

“Don’t be afraid; just believe.” Mark 5 36

TheShellBeach · 12/10/2024 21:44

I will never leave you nor forsake you.

This!

That's my son's favourite verse.

Not a verse but I like the bit in ecclesiasties (not sure if I've spelt that right) that says a time to laugh, time to cry etc. Makes me think in hard times that it's just a phase and things will get better.

BiscuitlyBoyle · 12/10/2024 21:46

Not a bible verse but I love Julian of Norwich’s quote:

All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of things shall be well.

It really helped me in the very early days of Covid when it seemed so scary.

FuzzyPuffling · 12/10/2024 21:47

Although there's a fab bit in one of the psalms that says,
" neither delighteth he in any man's legs", which was always a laugh to sing!

Romans 38-39.
And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,b] neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord

Bible Gateway passage: Romans 8:31-39 - New Living Translation

Nothing Can Separate Us from God’s Love - What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? W...

Yes it's wonderful words of widom!

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,

    • a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,
    • a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
    • a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.
junebirthdaygirl · 12/10/2024 21:50

Not sure of the verse but
Who of you by worrying can add one day to your life.
I worry so this helps me let go and see there is no point

I always laugh when we sing it is well with my soul, near the end when it says trump of the angel. I know it means playing the trumpet but it always makes me think of angels farting!

cheapskatemum · 12/10/2024 21:57

It's Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, as quoted above, for me too.

I also love Ephesians 2:10
"For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago." (New Living Translation)

MeanMrMustardSeed · 12/10/2024 21:58

I love the variety of favourite verses here.

OhMaria2 · 12/10/2024 22:01

Isiah 5:20
Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

There's been a lot of it about lately

MeanMrMustardSeed · 12/10/2024 22:02

Mine is 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

QueenOfHiraeth · 12/10/2024 22:11

Fear not for I am with you, Isaiah 41:10

FerminRomeroDeTorres · 12/10/2024 22:14

Ezekiel 37 - the valley of the dry bones.

Vs11-14 in particular are verses I have clung to when I have felt very low in the past. Just the reassurance that God is a God of life and of resurrection, and that even when we feel like our hope is gone, He is still there and He can still breathe new life into us and lead us back into a John 10:10 life.

11 Then he said to me: “Son of man, these bones are the people of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.’ 12 Therefore prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: My people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel. 13 Then you, my people, will know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and bring you up from them.14 I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord.’”

Hercisback1 · 12/10/2024 22:16

A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

VincitVeritas1 · 12/10/2024 22:30

Psalm 42:

As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, my God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?
My tears have been my food
day and night,
while people say to me all day long,
“Where is your God?”
These things I remember
as I pour out my soul:
how I used to go to the house of God
under the protection of the Mighty One
with shouts of joy and praise
among the festive throng.
Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.
My soul is downcast within me;
therefore I will remember you
from the land of the Jordan,
the heights of Hermon - from Mount Mizar.
Deep calls to deep
in the roar of your waterfalls;
all your waves and breakers
have swept over me.
By day the Lord directs his love,
at night his song is with me -
a prayer to the God of my life.
I say to God my Rock,
“Why have you forgotten me?
Why must I go about mourning,
oppressed by the enemy?”
My bones suffer mortal agony
as my foes taunt me,
saying to me all day long,
“Where is your God?”
Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.

Peace be with you @MarigoldSpider.

Then Jesus said " I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, whoever believe in me will never be thirtsy"
John 6 35

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds.

AgainandagainandagainSS · 12/10/2024 22:58

What a lovely thread.

Mine is Matthew 6:21: For where your treasure is, there shall your heart be also.

My lovely vicar friend loves:

Isaiah 43: Fear not, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by name, you are mine.

MillenialAvocado · 12/10/2024 23:51

Psalm 116:7 "Be at rest once more, O my soul, for the Lord has been good to you."

There's honestly SO many verses I could list, but when I'm anxious my brain often jumps back to this one.

A lot of my favourite Bible verses are in the Psalms, I absolutely adore them :)
