Hi all! I've had a v busy couple of days, so just getting a chance to read through everyone's updates 🙂

Hope you manage to stay as comfortable as possible @TurquoiseDreamCatcher, it must be no fun being so heavily pregnant in such heat!

Ohh I'm glad your granola turned out well @VioletCharlotte ! It keeps pretty well in an airtight container, but it never seems to last too long in this house anyway!

We were helping my in-laws move some tons of reclaimed stones in their garden today... I burst open a bag, and what landed at my feet? A hagstone!! I'd never seen one in the flesh before - think it was all of you taking about them recently that guided it to me. So although I technically didn't "find" it, I'm still counting it as lucky!

We're due storms tonight but they've not arrived yet, although I can feel the stirrings of it, don't imagine it'll be far off now.

HillsBesideTheSea · 14/08/2022 20:18

Send the thunderstorm south when you are done with it Speakout we are forecasted for tomo, and I could really use it. Been a very trying day here.

speakout · 14/08/2022 20:24

Thunderstorm has passed, hopefully heading south.
Now a cool and very wet 16 degrees here.

Hallo, I haven’t posted here before, I don’t come on mumsnet very often… I have only ever told one person this IRL, but I often experience precognition about all sorts of things from trivial to dramatic. My daughter does too since she was able to talk. I also “hear” people’s thoughts before they speak or ask questions in my mind which the person I am thinking to then directly answers. I have strong callings to certain things and people and can see/feel lines of energetic connection from myself to others. I don’t know if I can call myself a witch exactly, I believe in the Tao as much as I believe in anything, but I have started using tarot as a way to try to channel some of what is going on in my mind. Sometimes I feel like I am going crazy, so I am glad to have somewhere to say this anonymously!

Trenzalor · 15/08/2022 12:12

Welcome @Ickthyosaur those certainly sound like some strong gifts you have there! Settle down by the aga and the enchanted teapot will pour your favourite drink for you.

speakout · 15/08/2022 12:27

Ickthyosaur glad you have joined us- welcome.
Weird ways are also welcome!
Gloriously cool here, another elecrical storm is forecast for later this afternoon, so just about to pop out to the post office and some food shopping, hopefully I will be back before it starts.
Just discovered I have been bitten alive by midges after my full moon ceremony.
They descended at dusk and I could feel them biting at the time.
At the same time the twighlight sky was filled with bats, swooping and diving, no doubt feasting on the midges!

OP posts:
HillsBesideTheSea · 15/08/2022 13:03

I always love seeing the bats. Makes me smile every time.

I went meteor watching a couple of times, and was treated to the sight of a giant hare.

The moon was a orangy reddish colour last night.

Apparently i am missing something that the universe needs me to action as things are exploding in that usual get your ass moving in the right direction way atm. Unfortunately i am not grasping what i am supposed to right now. <sigh> sometimes i wish the lessons would come a little gentler, but then i would probably ignore or miss them.

speakout · 15/08/2022 14:20

HillsBesideTheSea I agree about life's lessons, sometimes it does feel as if they are coming is a big challenging or dramatic way, but often when I look back I can see that the messages were there all along , but I had failed to notice until they jump into my lap and start screaming in my face.
I find Tarot or some other means of divination useful in provinging me clarity and ideas of how to handle difficult times.
Back just in time, the rain has started, I had run out of oat milk.
I am not a vegan, but have been enjoying plant milk for the past year or so.
There was only cows milk in my fridge this morning and my coffee tasted "agricultural", a definite funk like a cow shed. Quite offputting. The milk was in date and smelled OK, but I think my sense of taste has changed.
Now enjoying a coffe with oat milk. Normal service has been restored.

Welcome @Ickthyosaur !

We eventually got the storm during the night, it was intense! Thankfully my little people slept through it with no upset.

@speakout I think once you've drank plant based milks, cows milk def tastes v odd! I was vegan pre kids, but felt I wanted meat whilst I was expecting both times. I now eat a veggie diet but have some eggs and cheese these days. Even then, I still can only eat granola/cereal/porridge with almond or soy milk.

Hope you get some clarity soon @HillsBesideTheSea

Fashiontatts · 15/08/2022 14:55

Oh, and I found an amazing piece of petrified wood for sale this weekend! It's a good big chunk, and someone has polished it up on 2 sides and left it raw on the other sides. I can't stop looking at it, it keeps drawing me to it. The colours and textures of it are amazing. I've got it sitting beside a big raw cut clear quartz but not sure it's the right energy together... I appreciate it's technically a fossil, but anyone who is more knowledgeable than me on crystals etc, I'd love to hear some advice on best pairings/placements etc for it.

queenrollo · 15/08/2022 15:50

Speakout I switch between oat and soya milk but notice how odd cows milk tastes in drinks if I have it. I was using it during our holiday last week and I also noticed my reflux and throat mucus were much worse. I do still use cows milk in some baking/cooking but have massively reduced the amount of dairy in my diet.

I've been baking today, some foraged blackberries from behind my house. A couple of bags worth to freeze too. The elderberry is nearly ready. Everything is so early this year. Usually I am waving my youngest off to school and then getting elbow deep in baking and preserving. I think this year a lot will be frozen to keep for September.
About 10 years ago I was very productive in the kitchen garden with jam, chutneys and batch cooking for the freezer. I lost interest a bit over the years but with so much belt tightening ahead I have got my head and heart back into it. There is a healthy supply of damsons next to my house too, so I think I will have a go at damson jam again.
We grow a lot of our own apples and I cut up the damaged/bruised ones and dry what I can. My DS actually doesn't like shop bought apple rings, he prefers mine!

VioletCharlotte · 15/08/2022 16:38

I live this time of year when the trees and hedgerows are full of fruits to harvest. I noticed this morning that the elderberries are ready now. Lovely to have your own apple trees Queenrollo home grown ones taste completely different to shop ones.

My diet is mainly plant based. I decided to cut out dairy a couple of years ago because I was suffering from stomach aches and bloating. I agree that goes milk tastes unpleasant when you're not used it, I had it my coffee the other week when I visited my Grandmother, I couldn't finish it.

Fashiontatts that sounds interesting, I know petrified wood is meant to be good for grounding. How did you come across it?

Still no sign of thunder here, it's not as hot as it has been as the sun is hidden by the low cloud, but it's so humid!

Fashiontatts · 15/08/2022 17:00

@queenrollo how do you dry your fruit? Do you have a dehydrator? The jams etc sound delicious! I've only ever made chia jams before which are really simple!

@VioletCharlotte we had been helping my in-laws with their garden - they have huge grounds on their property and were putting stones down over a section of it to help with maintenance... (sad, but nevertheless... I found a hagstone in one of the bags of reclaimed stone I was shovelling haha!)
They had a selection of gardening equipment they no longer wanted/needed and were going to bin - so I said we would drop them into one of the local charity shops on the way back home rather than landfill them.... and in the charity shop this little beauty was sitting on a shelf! Labelled as "Brown Bookend"... but I knew what it was as soon as I saw it!

Sorry photos are terrible! But the distinction of the rings is incredible and the outer bark layer is still so intricate even tho it's now solidify into stone

queenrollo · 15/08/2022 17:12

@Fashiontatts I have a Rayburn so I put the apple rings on wire cooling racks and sit them on top of it. Just using the residual heat to let them dry. Sometimes I put things in the bottom warming oven overnight too, but only at beginning/end of lighting season when we don't keep it lit overnight. I have toyed with getting a dehydrator but not sure I would use it enough to justify the cost.
It does mean I can only really dry stuff when it's cool enough to light the cooker though.

@VioletCharlotte we had to take out some very old apple trees when we moved in as they were beyond salvation. We replanted three varieties which are as local as possible. I also have two pear trees, an almond (that is loaded this year!), a hazel, a plum tree and several very productive gooseberries. Oh and the monster rhubarb. I am very lucky to have such an amazing garden.

Elphame · 15/08/2022 17:21

That's a beautiful bit of fossilised wood @Fashiontatts

I might try drying some of my surplus apples this year - thanks for the idea @queenrollo . I have 6 trees all of which are groaning under the crop this year so methods of preservation are very welcome. I've already made a big batch of apple chilli jelly and chutney is on my agenda but that will deal with only a tiny fraction of the crop.

I do have a dehydrator but it will need a very good clean as I use it for witchcraft herbs mostly... I wonder if I can justify a second one for culinary use? I have tried blackberries before but they take ages to dry properly.

Just sent DP out with the dogs to pick a few blackberries to go in tonight's crumble. The storm is approaching but about an hour away I think.

If you haven't heard of map.blitzortung.org, it's compulsive viewing when thunder is forecast. Go to the live map and zoom in.

Fashiontatts · 15/08/2022 17:38

Your garden sounds amazing @queenrollo so much produce!
Thanks @Elphame I'll have a little look at that link later on!

HillsBesideTheSea · 15/08/2022 17:52

I have my dehydrator for culinery uses. It helps with the streamlining of processed here. I have jars of things like dried potatoes, leeks, carrots, caramalise onions etc. It is useful for 2 reasons - grab and go meals in a hurry, but also allows for veg powders etc and mushroom powder is the favourite thing in this house and is used in gravy mixes and flavouring homemade pasta etc.

I have a little stash of seasonings from things that i have dried and that is before taking into account the fruit powders etc for making things like spiced orange sugar, etc.

Culinary uses of Dehydrator is one of the best things that i have done in the last few years. That is absolutely for sure. It has enhance and made life so much easier for me on so many levels.

I find the gentler signs really annoying. I feel like "either tell me what it is you want to tell me, or shut up".

real struggle down South. Can't cool down at all. Portable air con taking flat to 31. Haven't seen orange moon as I face the wrong side, but also by that time I am too pissed off to go outside to look at it. I should, I know.

I went on a bat walk a while ago, it was excellent. They gave us sound equipment. It was a lovely experience.

HillsBesideTheSea · 15/08/2022 18:10

Ah but the in your face signs can literally break you. Especially if you think you are already trying to take the steps you are supposed to but it is going to take a lot of steps and time to achieve the end result. Especially if the end result is a complete life change in terms of job, living arrangements and going NC with family that you are currently caring for. And if this is not what this crap is about, then I am too stupid to figure it out and am going to need an intervention because I can't anymore.

EmmaH2022 · 15/08/2022 18:23

Hills I am sorry you are going through tough stuff. I hope you get the signs that work for you.

i made the mistake of giving away some crystals in a clearout, while desperate for change. I keep recalling individual ones and wanting them back. Mad. Or sad. Or both!

Fashiontatts · 16/08/2022 07:20

@HillsBesideTheSea I'm sorry you're going through a tough time... I hope things become clearer and easier for you. Huge life changes are a tough storm to weather sometimes.

@EmmaH2022 I did the same a few years back with a couple of large pieces I didn't really have room for... and now I've moved house I've loads of room for them and haven't seen any that would be replacements for them! I'll keep looking for some stones that call to me!

EmmaH2022 · 16/08/2022 11:02

Fashion ah, it's understandable if you didn't have room.

sometimes I get hooked on the idea that I can create change...so I foolishly got rid of things I did have space for.

my copy of Thomas Waters' Cursed Britain just arrived. If anyone is wanting the paperback, be warned - the print is tiny! I say that as one who doesn't wear glasses and has the settings in everything so small that others can't read it...and even I think it's too small!

HillsBesideTheSea · 16/08/2022 11:11

The universe sent me a little encouragement today, which was very much needed. the encouragement came in the form of a message in a support group i am in (on a specific issue) and a good friend who popped up for a chat and eased some concerns I have. Both were needed and well timed. And enough to help me keep moving forwards along this challenging path.
