How can Christians feel they won’t get covid?

My Christian friends keep sending me scripture and videos saying the lord is on the throne and will protect them and they won’t get it.

I find this so hard to believe/understand. Can anyone help?

The church I worship at is always giving updated protocols on avoiding CV. Only the batshit ones think we are immune!

cabbageking · 21/03/2020 18:11

Probably better to be asking you what church this is?

The Church of England and Jehovah Witnesses have altered how they collectively worship and day to day contact. So it isn't this sector?

Others have said their church has made changes.

You don't make changes if you believe you are automatically saved.

TowandaForever · 21/03/2020 19:12

@IkeaSlave it’s a Baptist church.

@Russellbrandshair

It’s not just my church is it. Other people on this thread have had some Christians saying the same thing.

I did a quick count of the responses in this thread- 48 people said they’d never heard such a ridiculous response in their church. 3 said: their family/ people on Facebook think God will save them from CV. That’s hardly a majority is it? Plus they didn’t say “churches” they said some individuals. Therefore it’s not “multiple” people is it? It’s a few individuals saying it.

Again- why dont you ask your church? You say they all think this yet you seem too scared to ask them? Why?

My Christian friends keep sending me scripture and videos saying the lord is on the throne and will protect them and they won’t get it.

Seriously, check back and be absolutely honest. Do they (all of them) actually say they won't get it? Not give the impression that they might think that, but actually say that?

Bumpsadaisie · 21/03/2020 19:39

Church of England has suspended public worship because of the risk of transmitting or getting CV19.

I think the Christians you know are out of step with the mainstream....Smile

cabbageking · 21/03/2020 19:45

Looking at Baptist UK advice they are also taking precautions.

They wouldn't do this if they are immune and special.

Suggest your friends may not attend church to hear advice.
Are ignoring the advice.
Are winding you up.
Are delusional.
Have a mental health problem.
Have no common sense.
Have not read the Holy Book.
Have their fingers crossed when talking to you.
Any other reason.

The RC archdiocese of Chicago has canceled all Holy Week and Easter services on top of the current stop to all public Masses. Church bells are to be rung five times a day for the foreseeable so people can be reminded to pray.

2.3 million RCs affected in two counties.

I know there are some Baptists who think Catholics are not really Christians though..

SpruceTree · 26/03/2020 23:12

You have some very odd friends then. Is this a genuine post OP?
I am a Christian, I know loads of Christians, and none of them think that.
Although, to be fair, plenty of atheists think they won't get it too, so maybe it's not just a post to Christian-bash.
Some people are odd OP, atheists and Christians and all other flavours, have odd people OP.

I wanted to try and understand why some ( and it seems to be the ones I know) think this.

It’s not difficult to imagine why they might think this, though. They believe in God. They believe He looks after them. They believe therefore that He will protect them from Covid-19. They’ve got the wrong end of the stick, but it’s not illogical.

These idiots do seem to exists. Lets just hope their idiocy doesn't lead them to infecting and killing someone else.

Stripeyfrog · 31/03/2020 21:29

My friend posted something on fb the other day about God will protect you from illness and disease. I am a lapsed christian, my parents had very strong faith as Christians, they both died from cancer, my mum at a relatively young age. I called her out on it and said it was BS (in more polite terms !!)

malonybalony · 03/04/2020 22:11

Becasue they're idiots. Hopefully their stupidity wont lead them to infecting others

saleorbouy · 14/04/2020 01:14

A relative works in a care home for elderly nuns from a religious order. Many of them have contracted CV19 and unfortunately a handful have died. If the power of prayer and religious faith has not saved them I'd say the rest of us have no chance without taking suitable precautions or medical interventions.
I admire your friends faith in God but as someone who I'd not religious I think I'll stick with the science to save me if necessary.

BurgerOnTheOrientExpress · 14/04/2020 05:19

The onus is on the proposer of a 'God' to substantiate their claim, not for me to be set the task of proving something doesn't exist.

If I was god the first thing I would do to help the world I supposedly created in 6 days is ban all religion, then I would remove all forms of weaponry.

God, you selfish voyeur, why don't you fix this please.
