With the latest prayer thread coming to an end, we thought we would create a new thread for prayer and general chat too - we had chat threads running for years alongside prayer threads, and we thought it would be great to combine them. I try and collate some of the prayer requests from the last thread in the next few days. In the meantime, dive in! Lurkers/newbies - you are welcome to post. Feel free to start any chat subject about Christianity, church, worship etc, and do share any prayer needs.
Would love to hear from those who were on previous threads and haven't been around for a while, too. Come and let us know how you are.

NCs are very silly really! Apologies Rafals

JanuaryChill · 23/01/2021 19:06

I need to find a less time-critical username or just a month I'm happy to stick with.
(Can I ask what yours means, have always wondered?)

It wasn’t you at all January. It was all me. Keep changing no it if you want.

It’s a tennis themed name referring to Nadal.

After our own church YouTube service this morning one of the 'you might like this' recommendations was a live service from a church in Barbados. It was really wonderful to watch and know we were sharing Gods word with a congregation the other side of the Atlantic.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 27/01/2021 09:22

Has anyone seen the news about the letter from the archbishops of Canterbury & York asking for daily moment of prayer at 6pm? I think the first one will be on 1st Feb.

Had first covid jab yesterday. So mostly today I’m thankful for all the work that went into that but 100,000 by any measure is a huge number of deathsSad

Madhairday · 27/01/2021 18:39

Yes I'm feeling the same, Rafa. I have mine on Friday and I'm so grateful.

Oh that's so good to hear of you being immunised, @Madhairday and @RafaIsTheKingOfClay!

jollyunicorn83 · 28/01/2021 20:52

Sorry for this message out of the blue. I know this is more of a coffee chat but Is anyone around to pray tonight? I know it sounds trivial and silly compared to others struggles but I'm struggling with my mind racing and being completely overwhelmed with life. Any support at all I would appreciate it

JanuaryChill · 28/01/2021 21:20

Of course @jollyunicorn83. Life is very hard at the moment. I am praying now for you.

Lord, send your spirit of peace upon jolly. Help her to be aware of who she is in your eyes, how much you love and value her. Help her synapses to calm, her breathing to slow and feelings - of being able just to cope OK with whatever's going on for her right now - to grow. Thank you that you have overcome the world and all its ills, on the cross.
Amen.

Donhill · 28/01/2021 21:30

Praying for you now, jolly, for peace.

jollyunicorn83 · 28/01/2021 21:42

Ty both so much

Dutchoma · 28/01/2021 21:43

Adding my prayers for the storm to obey the command of the Lord: “Peace, be still”

Sleep well, dear Jolley

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 28/01/2021 22:19

Offering you my prayers for peace and strength, jolly.

jollyunicorn83 · 28/01/2021 22:21

Ty for this. I'm going to try to sleep now and praying for Peace of mind

Madhairday · 28/01/2021 22:40

Praying jolly that you will be calmed in God's loving presence, know that you rest in God's everlasting arms and experience peace that passes all understanding. For good, restful sleep, and for moments of joy in tomorrow.

Praying for you too jolly and hoping you’ve been able to get some rest tonight.

Hello everyone, I’m new to this thread but I thought it was worth asking in here before I start a new thread!

Is there anyone here who knows of good resources or peer support for clergy spouses? Particularly wives as I think what I’m butting up against atm is definitely a vicar's wife thing Confused But really I’d just like to either join or found a clergy spouses peer support group, as I feel there are plenty of situations that could be helped by having a listening ear!

Madhairday · 29/01/2021 09:36

Hello @Brandysnapzzz! I'm a vicar's wife and I'm in a lovely FB support group (actually two.) If you DM me your details I can invite you to the group if you're on FB? Feel free to post here too :)

So good to hear people are getting vaccines, I've volunteered to give vaccines and have now been approved. It will feel so good to be doing good for others. It's what I need to be doing.

JanuaryChill · 29/01/2021 17:04

So good to hear your news today jolly.

Dutchoma · 29/01/2021 18:34

Thanks for updating us Jollie. I do pray you go from strength to strength.

Cakeweek · 29/01/2021 19:02

Hello all, I haven't been here for a couple of years so I hope you don't mind me joining in?. When I was last here I was TTC and finally fell (and stayed) pregnant with DS2. It's been utter craziness since then, DS1 has diabetes and since covid we've shielded him. Which isn't easy when he's just 5 and doesn't really get it.

Church and faith have been weird this year, I miss my Bible study group and can't make any of the zoom events as they all seem to clash with bedtimes or homeschool Google meets (and we're not replete with tech). I also got the hump with our minister when he talked about needing to return to in person church as an act of service. He just seemed a little sneery at those of us who couldn't, and while I'm sure I'm faaaaaaaaar too sensitive about it, it's stuck with me.

I never really got the whole'sisters in christ' thing some of the other mums at our church talked about, but now I do. I think not being able to carve out Bible time doesn't help. But it turns out that I pray much more than I ever did. Just little"thank you for the sunrise, the snow, my children" but I am I think starting to understand the relational aspect of prayer.

Dutchoma · 29/01/2021 22:29

Welcome back Cakeweek. Would we remember your earlier username?

Jaime321 · 29/01/2021 23:50

Hi Brandysnapzzz I'm a vicars wife too, as already mentioned there's a couple of facebook groups which are great, but I think aside from that it depends on your diocese as to what's available.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 31/01/2021 12:32

Just a quick query - has anyone on here been part of phone church?

We had our first service this morning and it was brilliant! Priest and I had been very apprehensive about it as we have a very elderly congregation and some of them can be a bit self-conscious about new things, but we had 15 congregants, and it was much more exclusive than FB, zoom or youtube services - everybody was so excited to be able to speak to each other in a group again.

As is was the Candlemas service, we had all been asked to have a tea light handy which we lit. It really was a joy. If you haven't tried it, I would recommend it to anyone.
