With the latest prayer thread coming to an end, we thought we would create a new thread for prayer and general chat too - we had chat threads running for years alongside prayer threads, and we thought it would be great to combine them. I try and collate some of the prayer requests from the last thread in the next few days. In the meantime, dive in! Lurkers/newbies - you are welcome to post. Feel free to start any chat subject about Christianity, church, worship etc, and do share any prayer needs.
Would love to hear from those who were on previous threads and haven't been around for a while, too. Come and let us know how you are.

How is your anxiety today, Rafa? Hope yesterday was ok.

How are you feeling, Arielle?

OP posts:
Dutchoma · 15/02/2020 15:44

Shall `i share mine too, since MHD did?
Tea or coffee - tea as I’ am no fan of instant coffee
Hymns or worship songs? Hymns
Band or organ? Organ
Flavour/Denomination -CoE now -after being on the run from a large Baptist church where is was songs and organs with the very occasional hymn thrown in. We have a blue and a red book. Red is worship songs and I’m not keen. Most people in the choir (robed choir, no less) are not.
After church snack - not sure.
Having made the move coming up for two years ago I feel so much more able to worship in this setting than I did at the previous church. It’s taken me 40 years to work that out.
And Nickel’s question: How do you feel about Graham Kendrick? - You can keep him

isittheholidaysyet · 15/02/2020 16:15

Our hymn book is light blue, but I think all hymn books used in English Catholic churches are going to be very similar!

Also have a CofE vicar husband, but he hasn't reeled me in.Grin

Madhairday · 15/02/2020 16:27

Ah Oma I'm always so glad you are much more settled and able to worship now. ❤️ Such a delight.

What do you think of Graham Kendrick?

Me: the 80s called and asked for their worship leaders back.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 15/02/2020 16:41

Ours hymn book is green but we have a screen and projector so we occasionally use something that isn’t in the book.

It’s not as bad as it was yesterday but is still there, MHD. It’s taken me a bit by surprise. It hasn’t been this bad since the start of December.

Madhairday · 15/02/2020 22:30

I'm praying for you now Rafa, that you sleep peacefully and your anxiety eases. Flowers

Dutchoma · 15/02/2020 22:49

Adding my prayers too Rafa. Sleep well.

ZenNudist · 16/02/2020 00:23

Hey there @RafalsTheKingOfClay. Saying a prayer for you. I am sorry you feel this way. What usually helps when you feel anxious? I hope you start to feel calmer.

MHD im not sure what I can say about my experience of the realisation of God. Some of it I asked on mumsnet and I got help from some lovely Catholics. So much to take on board, quite apart from discovering something which I had given frighteningly little thought to despite a Catholic (reluctant) upbringing. I was quite fixated for a while, constantly had a prayer or hymn or part of mass in mind, had to read a lot to make sense of it or watch YouTube vids which helped. Im still like that but not quite so avid!

Things have happened that convinced me but they either sound thin or mental written down. I find God (apart from the sheer obvious - in the world around us) like everyone else in day to day prayer or regular worship or just doing things which fit in with being a faithful person. I didnt always feel like you could bolt an agnostic life to a faithful life. I actually felt the loss of 25 years of chance to praise God (for want of a better way of putting it). Like I missed a lot. Still so much work to do on myself to be a much better person. Good things have happened as a result of reverting to Catholicism.

Just popping in to say hi. It has been a really rough year so only just putting my toe back out into the world. My it is blustery out there.

Dutchoma · 16/02/2020 15:47

Welcome (back), mostlydrinkstea. I hope you find the temperature of the water agreeable to your toe.

BlackeyedSusan · 17/02/2020 22:27

Bloody hell tea, you picked a humdinger of a weather weekend to emerge... Grin

Talking of which, can I request prayers for flooded out relies.

Catinabeanbag · 18/02/2020 18:38

Hello

Mind if I join you?

Coffee or tea? - Tea (as long as it's made with boiling water)

Hymns or worship songs? - Hmmm..... Used to be worship songs, now more hymns, but I don't really mind either.

Band or organ? - Again, used to be band, now go a church with an organ, so don't mind as long as the organist doesn't play hymns at a funereal speed. "Tell Out My Soul" is not good at a plod....

Flavour/denomination? - Attended baptist churches (of the charismatic variety) through childhood and twenties. Didn't go to church regularly for about 15 years, now at a fairly traditional C of E.
Been to churches of pretty much every flavour over the years.

What sort of after church snack? - A decent biscuit. None of this pink wafer nonsense!

Graham Kendrick..... In the church I grew up in we used to sing loads of his songs. Currently having slightly weird flashbacks when the CofE church I now go to does 'Shine Jesus Shine' (or other Kendrick song) in an attempt to be 'modern'.

Dutchoma · 18/02/2020 19:18

Welcome catsinabag. I feel exactly the same. We had Shine, Jesus, shine’ the other day and everybody groaned. Only the kids (and we have four of them in the choir) loved it. We don’t have any of the ‘yea, yea, yea’ ones, at least not yet.

ZenNudist · 18/02/2020 19:44

Welcome catinabeanbag you and I would be well matched at a post church gathering as I happily hoover up pink wafers.

UnalliterativeGeorge · 18/02/2020 22:23

Hello, I'm a lurker too. Recently sold somebody something and received no payment so been reading about submitting everything in prayer this evening. Doing my best, any prayers welcome!

Coffee or tea? - Tea, preferably about 4 cups

Hymns or worship songs? - I'm happy with either but if I had to pick I'd go with worship songs

Band or organ? - used to be organ, currently band which I prefer

Flavour/denomination? - been to a bunch, currently at a village church which is small but powerful

What sort of after church snack? - We mix it up and have pre-service breakfast so croissants. My two small children manage to eat approximately 4 times their body weight in as many minutes Grin

Graham Kendrick. - eh, depends on the day

erinaceus · 19/02/2020 06:26

Morning everyone, do you mind if I join this thread?

I’ve been on MN for years and years, I started off mostly in Feminism Chat (it was called something else back then) then spent a lot of time on the MH boards when was struggling with my MH.

I’ve been thinking a lot about faith recently, not precisely sure what to say except hello, I’ve not read the whole thread, I really should do that.

👋🏼

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 19/02/2020 10:15

We’ve had shine Jesus shine two weeks in a row for some reason. I don’t actually mind it but it’s a bit much.

Anxiety is much better this week. Thank you for all the prayers.

Dutchoma · 19/02/2020 13:41

Good news Rafals. And keep running BES. Actuall, I can’t even remember what that yeah, yeah ,yeah song was, I have buried it so deep in my unconscious mind.

Catinabeanbag · 19/02/2020 14:24

scratches head Don't think I remember the 'yea yea' song.

Not a big fan of Shine Jesus Shine, myself....it's the fact it's considered 'modern' in the church I go to which amuses me. It must be about 30 years old!

isittheholidaysyet · 19/02/2020 15:48

We’ve had shine Jesus shine two weeks in a row for some reason. I don’t actually mind it but it’s a bit much.

In the RC lectionary the readings for the 3 weeks before last week, have had a theme of 'light' (Jesus a light to enlighten the gentiles. You are the light of the world etc.) So that's probably why you've had it twice. We've struggled to not repeat any hymns.

Hello, to everyone I've not met.

Tinselette1940 · 19/02/2020 15:56

Lovely to find you all again!

Decaf tea
Organ
Hymns
Roman Catholic
Post Church snack: home-made cake if I'm lucky
I like Shine Jesus Shine but that's it!

Motacilla · 19/02/2020 16:00

Hi, I hope you don't mind me joining you. I am a long time member, I change username from time to time but I have never posted in this thread or its previous incarnations.

Coffee or tea? Either, or hot water if you are running low
Hymns or worship songs? A mix of both, our hymn book is orange, I can't remember the name of it though despite dh leading worship from time to time.
Band or organ? Piano or guitar - anything with a drum kit is a bit much for me.
Flavour/denomination? Currently CofE but from a mixed marriage and varied background so fairly open.
What sort of after church snack? Anything sweet.

ZenNudist · 19/02/2020 22:05

Hello to more people. There are at least 2 non awful God related debates on mumsnet today. Its something lots of mumsnetters think about and believe such a wide range of things. I usually feel like mumsnet is mainly atheist and hates churchgoers but its not been too bad. I feel obliged to weigh in but not sure Im helping.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 19/02/2020 22:25

Hello, motacilla and tinselette.

If it’s in AIBU I’m not posting Zen. I’ve learnt not to do that.
