A place for support, learning, swapping ideas and magical inspiration

All welcome.

Yes, it is chilling reading. Barbaric and macabre.

Skyejuly · 11/11/2018 21:16

Hi :)

Oh the witch trials are so sad and shocking. I have done many research on facts and figures. Happy to help. Also read lots on pendle and Salem witches. It's awful how this huge crime against mainly women has just been almost hushed on history.

Skyejuly · 11/11/2018 21:21

I am sad to hear of negativity here. It's such a relief to read like minded people xx

speakout · 11/11/2018 21:50

I have had an invite to talk on radio about witchcraft. Katherine Boyle on talk radio- not something I listen to.

Not sure if I will you never know the spin media will take.

I understand your hesitation

@skyejuly...welcome.

sockportal · 11/11/2018 22:35

@Bellecose2 have you got a link to the blog by the Romany Gypsy? It's sounds very interesting, thank you.

Bellecose2 · 11/11/2018 22:44

I'll trySmile not very good with links.

@sockportal.. Her name is Lisa Boswell if this link doesn't work.

Loyaultemelie · 11/11/2018 23:09

I understand your hesitation too Speakout. Part of me thinks of course it should be wonderful opportunity to discuss witchcraft in its many different guises in today's world but yet so many people still have a negative reaction to it. I don't share what I do with anyone outside my dh and my dm (who is similar) although any like minded people can tell pretty much right away when they come into my home. That's because in rural NI and this area in particular it can have negative repercussions, however the number of people who have both consciously and unconsciously sought my help has been surprising.

BlankTimes · 12/11/2018 00:56

Speakout

You could maybe give them a holding reply to say you're considering it, then listen to a few shows of hers to get the feel of how it's done. If they're aggressive with their questions or are a show that likes sensationalist stuff or ask people to come on to be the butt of their and their listeners' "entertainment" then refuse.

If you think it could be a good thing to do, you could ask them for a list of questions in advance so you won't be taken unawares. If they deviate from that on the day, just do what politicians do and get your point across anyway.

Welcome SkyeJuly kettle's on, triple tulsi for me, what's yours?

PawneeParksDept · 12/11/2018 01:08

I would proceed with the utmost caution tbh @speakout

There is an ongoing divisive subject matter on MN that I'm sure you've all seen

Someone from that was invited to speak in the media, and it became very one sided and sensationalised. It was obvious there was an agenda and she had been cast as a bad guy rather than a genuine discussion.

Vitalogy · 12/11/2018 04:22

Feel free to start a new thread. This is not the place. I don't feel my one question which requires a yes or no answer warrants a whole new thread. I would have thought a thread about witchcraft would be a good place to ask questions about witchcraft.

As a previous poster has recently asked (and started by apologising for asking it in the first place, never a good thing surely) In some parts of witchcraft does it condone, teach or advocate harm onto others

Like the other religions, witchcraft has been created by humans so why wouldn't there be both positive and negative in it. If there's nothing to hide, why not be totally open and honest, especially to people that are new or looking into witchcraft.

speakout · 12/11/2018 05:53

Thanks you lovely wise women, you confirm my feelings about the radio show.
I don't think I will take up the invitation- for lots of reasons.

I can't speak for all witches, and although I could give a personal slant I am concerned that they may try to present in a sensationalist or mocking way. And inevitable there will be listeners who will be offended/view me as evil etc.

I am no pagan evangelist!

I am up early for yoga, before a hectic day of work.
OH has a day off work today so will do the housework and cook, and provide me with endless cups of peppermint tea!

It's been a good week, lots of positive energy in the speakout home this week, DS - who has struggled in the past while seems much happier, taking DD back to her student flat last nigh she tells me that she wants to live back at home next year.
It makes sense- University is only 9 miles from home, and her rent in student accommodation is astronomical.
She is coping well emotionally and practically, but thinks she would prefer to buy a car and have lots of money left over, ( nursing bursary

So from a purely selfish point of view I am secretly delighted. Mustn't appear too joyful though- horse whispering works on people too!

I have a batch of Aphrodite love tin candles to make today - amongst lots of other stuff, so my house will be infused with Rose oil.

I hope everyone has a magical day.

How wonderful!

Ooh I like a triple Tulsi too but am drinking lots of hot lemon atm.

Have a good day everyone. Very cold and grey here xx

Bellecose2 · 12/11/2018 07:46

@vitology.... If you mean me as the pp, that wasn't actually my question. I think that has been answered... energy is neutral. Please don't bash the women on this thread for their beliefs. I try to respect all religions, see past what I don't agree with to the person behind it. Please extend the same courtesy.

@speakout... you never began this thread as a teaching resource and I think it's been unfair of me to ask so many questions of you ( and everyone else) I'm going to take a step back and reflect on what I've learnt. I closed my self off from the spiritual path for so many years and you've all opened that up for me. Don't precisely know where I sit, but at least I can see the path again.

Elphame · 12/11/2018 08:54

I think that's a wise decision speakout. The media has shown time and again that it isn't interested in a real discussion with pagans. I know of more than one who has been interviewed and has been stitched up. It will be lovely for you to have your daughter living at home again - financially too it makes a lot of sense.

@bellecose - ask away. If we don't want to answer we won't! We are all learning from each other all the time and "beginner" type questions are great for making more experienced witches consider things from a new angle. I have more or less decided I will start a new teaching cycle for my trad sometime next year. Even though I have used the material several times I always get something new from it and my students also teach me.

Blanktimes - thank you. I work with non human entities all the time but I'm ridiculously wary of the fae. Many witches carry baggage from Christian indoctrination. Me? Mine is faery! My Welsh grandmother was always nervous of attracting their attention and wouldn't even allow green to be worn in case it angered them

Hello SkyeJuly and welcome.

I'm planning a quick dash into Glastonbury for some herbs - I hope I can get patchouli leaves there. I could sub the oil but the herb would be better. It looks like a glorious day so I'll take the dog and we can climb the Tor. At least I can rely on Starchild being open - other shops are much less reliable....

Triple Mint is my tea of choice but I'm developing a distinct fondness for mango, lime and chilli at the moment. I havn't tried the tulsi.

VioletCharlotte · 12/11/2018 09:17

Speakout I'm glad you've decided not to do the radio show, I think that's the right decision.

Another Monday. Hope it's a good one for you all.

speakout · 12/11/2018 09:23

Bellecose2

Please don't feel the need to step back.

If anyone has a question answered here on his thread there are lots of others learning from that information- I have learned a lot, found out about things I know little about, and these questions are often ones that many of us would perhaps ask

This is part of why this thread is such an amazing font of knowledge.

Don't feel that you are somehow taking up more than your share by asking.

I and I know I speak for others - are delighted to share what we have.

*Elphame" is right- no matter how experienced we are, we can always learn and maybe see things from a new angle.

MawkishTwaddle · 12/11/2018 10:50

Hello all, I wonder if you can advise me?

I'm learning tarot and I've just done a reading for myself. I'm having a bit of an existential crisis (mid-life, empty nest, working through past issues) and my question to the tarot was a rather vague, 'Who Am I?'

The spread was generally positive and I was feeling ok until I turned over the final card to see the Ten of Swords!

Now, am I right in thinking that this means I'm bloody but unbowed? Or is that a rose-tinted reading, and actually I'm doomed?

Some advice from someone more experienced would be nice please.

BlankTimes · 12/11/2018 11:23

Morning everyone! sunshine here, it's warm and welcome.

Elphame Fingers crossed for your Patchouli leaves. Starchild's door has such an attraction for me, the flow of the carving and of course the inlaid runes. I would love a door like that as my front door.

Speakout good call. Mmmm Rose EO, you'll be floating all day and that's no bad thing.

Bellecose2 I'll echo what's already been said Halloween Smile

VioletCharlotte · 12/11/2018 11:24

Mawkish it's hard to say without seeing the rest of the spread, can you upload an image?

Generally, 10 of Swords is about something coming to an end.

MawkishTwaddle · 12/11/2018 11:38

I did take a pic of the spread. There's a lot in it about following my own path, having everything I need within me - then the ten of swords brought me down with a bit of a bump!
I drew a clarifying card, which came out as The Fool - not sure whether I'm being told to stop dwelling on past hurts and get on with things..?
