A good mornings work I think. Dog walked ( when he finally woke up!) and rowan and hawthorn berries picked.

The hawthorn is infusing in brandy with a few berries left to make a protection charm and the sloes in gin.

I'll be making rowan protective charms from these berries over the weekend. Is anyone interested in instructions on how to make them? They are a lovely project for those new to the craft.

I admit I am drooling a little at the thought of the infused brandy and gin!

No alcohol for me this weekend- DD in her thoughtfulness is requiring late night lifts for the next three nights.
In the past four days I have given her lifts to 10 separate places/friends/work.

I am wistful and a little sad at her going off to University next week- but is a part of me allowed to be a little bit happy too? Because I certainly feel that!!!

That I can sit of an evening and drink some of Elphame's gin without having to be taxi.

Elphame I’d love to hear more about uses for Rowan berries. I have a Rowan tree in my garden that I’ve always been very fond of.

Speakout I’m nowhere near as far down the line in this parenting lark as you but the whole thing seems to be punctuated with regular bittersweet moments when you are both happy and yet sad to be moving on to the next stage. I think that’s how it’s meant to be. And your DD is very lucky to have such a willing taxi service! 😁

I wouldn't give you that one speakout you'd get some from the 10 year old bottle! Infused drinks get better the longer you keep them (if you can!)

I made a nettle vodka a couple of years ago. It was frankly awful after the recommended 6 weeks and I almost threw it away. Instead I stuck it at the back of the cupboard and left it there. I tried another glass a few months ago and it was lovely. In a couple of years it'll be delicious. I am planning to make more.

Congratulations to your dd on heading off to uni. It's a real rite of passage for everyone. And of course you're allowed to be happy . There is a time when you job draws to a close and they fly the nest so congratulate yourself on a job well done. ( Although I do remember a mercy dash or two to my own uni attending dc. The job of parent is never totally done - I still worry about mine although they are well settled with homes, jobs and partners of their own) .

What is she going to be reading?

It's my DPs birthday today so I'm also going to be driving as we're going out to dinner. He's also retiring so it's a major life change here for me too. I've been used to my own time and space and having him around all day is going to require some major adjustments. I'm happy for him of course but not sure I'm happy for myself!

Today was the first time I left 10 month old DD at nursery, she is staring full time on Monday. I am currently looking for a job.

I'm constantly torn about which way to balance things. Find a full time job which means more money. Or work part time so DD can go to nursery part time and I can watch her grow a bit more.

I've been mentally trying to find the right balance for months and I am no closer to the answer.

@FitzsFool I understand what you mean when you said new stages come with happiness and sadness. Leaving DD at nursery is a big step towards her new independence and will be good for her but at the same time I'm sad about leaving her having constantly been with her for 10 months.

I really like the way the image captures the meaning in those cards. Speakout. If you have the time and it’s not too intrusive to ask I’d love you to draw a card for me. The Hermit card you drew for me last time kind of etched itself on my psyche, I now feel that’s kind of a ‘base’ card for me at present. I’m curious what a card followings from that might say. Apologies for any mis-assumptions regarding the nature of Tarot!
