"Who am I and what is the reason of my creation?"

Anyone?

OP posts:
Nikki76 · 01/05/2007 22:52

Mm....I am a Muslim and the reason for my creation is the worship of God....

ChaCha · 01/05/2007 22:55

Hi again Nikki, We've met previously on other threads. How are you?

OP posts:
Nikki76 · 01/05/2007 23:00

Hiya

Fine thanks, ill hamdu illah. You?

Just back from three weeks in Syria....had such a good time!!! Quite homesick for Damascus now!

ChaCha · 01/05/2007 23:11

I have yet to visit Syria but have friends who have studied there and really enjoyed it

OP posts:
Nikki76 · 01/05/2007 23:11

Are you from the Middle East at all?

ChaCha · 01/05/2007 23:32

Hi Nikki, sorry i was posting somewhere else and working out this Facebook thing that a friend sent me a link for.
My dad is from that part of the world, I was born in London, both my DH and mum are converts. u?

OP posts:
Nikki76 · 02/05/2007 22:25

DH is from Syria...I'm an English convert...

harrisey · 02/05/2007 23:37

Are you asking purely from a Muslim point of view?

Hope not!! Going to give you mine anyway

I'm a Christian, so you know my aganda, and a pretty evangelical one at that, but I don't bite (lol)

I see the reason for my creation to be love. Before the creation of the world, God existed as the Trinity, Father, Son, Spirit, all Loving each other even though there was nothing else to love. Creation occured as the overflowing of that love - God loved so much that He could do nothing else but create out of that love.
The Shorter Catechism (and this is the only bit of it I know!) asks 'what is man's cheif end' which is, of course, what is the purpose of humanity's creation? The answer is 'to love God and enjoy Him forever'

Who am I? I am in Christ, a new creation. THe old has gone, the new has come.

Nice to meet you all!!

ChaCha · 03/05/2007 11:55

Harrisey,

Thanks. Question for everyone and anyone. I'd love to start an interfaith thread soon, my MIL is a practising Christian and we have some very good discussions on faith. I will post again later when children are sleeping.

Nikki - Salam. Kaif al hal?

FiveFingeredFiend · 03/05/2007 12:00

i don't know and i have no idea. it seems that the whole thing is rather pointless.

who wants a god who says " i am god worship me"

is that really god? well that god can stick it.

harrisey · 04/05/2007 02:52

FFF is you have nothing constructive to add then please dont bother, it just looks petty and trivial.
THose of us who have something to hope and believe in wish to discuss it - if you dont want to have something to do with it, do you really think your short and shallow comment is going to change anyone's mind here?

I love that my god wants my praise and worship, that I mean something to the creator of the universe. Of course I believe that He wants to have something to do with you too!!

ChaCha thanks for your welcome! I do like discussing faith issues with those of other backgrounds!

FiveFingeredFiend · 04/05/2007 15:28

Thank you for your considered comments harrisey. I am sorry you were so offended by them, they were my thoughts of yesterday.

My opinion is that our creation seems rather pointless, as we work like ants for a consumerist society that takes little account of faith or belief. Or indeed tolerance ( dig at you there harrisey) empathy ( oh another one) Kindness ( i'm n a roll) all things one should equate with religeon.

Yesterday i was feeling dejected, sad at the loss of my religeon. Thank you for your welcome and inclusion harresay.

FiveFingeredFiend · 04/05/2007 15:32

Oh and the other valid opinion ( as mine is as valid as yours) " who wants a god who spouts worship me"??

worthy of a discussion. not unconstructive, petty, trivial, shallow.

you said

THose of us who have something to hope and believe in wish to discuss it..."

as did i. I have hope and belief. discuss it with me kindly ( opps another)

  • "if you dont want to have something to do with it," I did want something to do with it.

"do you really think your short and shallow comment is going to change anyone's mind here? "

minds are rarely changed i find, although a nice discussion sometimes is ok. especially amongst fellow believers.

you were very nasty harrisey, i hope your god wasn't watching.

MaryBS · 04/05/2007 16:33

FFF - you DO have a right to your opinion. I guess what was offensive is that you said "that god can stick it".

Also Nikki had already said the reason for hercreation is the worship of God, so she may well have found that offensive too.

Personally, I think anyone who can take crucifixion as a punishment for someone else deserves a little more respect - but I think God can take it!

So would you like to tell us what you believe? What do you see as the loss of your religion?

FiveFingeredFiend · 04/05/2007 16:39

i actually said in context

"is that really god? well that god can stick it"

I suppose if that is how you see you particular God then you could be offended.

However one would like to think remain gracious and forgiving (PMSL)

harrisey · 04/05/2007 20:13

FFF - I did not intend to be in the slightest bit nasty. But when every day your religion is taken down, messed about and trivialised, you do get a bit defensive.

I do expect that I shoudl be allowed to defend my God. I feel He is worthy of that, and when you say he can 'stick it', then that is trivial and shallow, not understanding why I wuold choose to follow a God who wants my worship, whci I am happy to give, without finding out why, just using the everyday, constant comments that you have do deal with as a serious CHristian about how your beliefs are irrational adn unrealistic and anachronistic .

I didnt mean to offend. I really didnt and I'm sorry that I did. BUT I do find that as a Christian in everyday society you can be treated like a nutter.

harrisey · 04/05/2007 20:15

And oh yes ... tolerance. The gretest good in our society. Unless you have any kind of exclusive beleif, where tolerance breaks down, and people like me are not tolerated for holding out beleifs to be sacred..

FiveFingeredFiend · 04/05/2007 20:23

Harrisey, your being precious, i have a belief.

again for your delectation i said"is that really god? well that god can stick it"

You were off with me, my comment was worthy of discussion.

themaskedposter · 04/05/2007 20:31

hmmmm yes,

have to agree with fff - does deserve discussion...

there are SO many beliefs out there, who is right

very worthy of debate

IMO the reason of my creation is MORE creation .. may not be someone else's but, hey, that's ok with me

...

MaryBS · 04/05/2007 21:36

Been thinking about this. God IS God - he doesn't NEED to be worshipped, he doesn't actually NEED us at all. However I believe he created me, and I worship him because it is right that I should do so.

FiveFingeredFiend · 05/05/2007 00:22

See mary THAT i belive.

Nikki76 · 05/05/2007 20:13

Salaam cha cha

I wasn't offended at all by FFF comment - I had the same thoughts before I became a Muslim (I am a convert to Islam) and so I was really investigating/questioning the whole thing before I accepted Islam....anyway, my personal belief is that God doesn't require worship - he doesn't need it, but we need to worship as it gives us some form of structure and something in our lives....I think the need to worship is instinctual - although not necessarily a religious deity though - look at all the s'leb worshipping going on!

However, for me, I really believe in God and that worshipping him makes me a better person. I have a profound hearing loss as well and its made me so determined to do things in life and I've educated so many people about deafness that its hard to not see the positivity in being deaf and being grateful for being deaf and not having a more severe disability -there but for the grace of God go I....

Really happy to talk faith with other people - I don't bite! Well...only on a weekend! lol

ChaCha · 06/05/2007 09:42

Hi Nikki,

Enjoyed reading your post and others. I enjoy the time out i get when i can just switch off and pray for the few minutes i am able to throughout a busy day. It's MY time, and i really enjoy it. God doesn't need me for anything, I need him and so I ask in prayer.

Am not quite awake yet so should make myself a cup of tea before everyone wakes. Back later

MaryBS · 06/05/2007 19:11

I just want to add, I'm used to being thought of as a nutter - I'm "a fool for the Lord"

ZipadiSuzy · 06/05/2007 21:47

Hia! Very interesting thread, I think you hit the nail on the head there Mary! NO NO NO, not the bit about you being a nutter the post before!
Thats where respect comes in which leads to love for the person that died on the cross for US! but I have never thought about whether god NEEDS US, apart from helping to spread the word, and be kind to people and to enforce the 10 commandments in our lifes!

Am I getting it, or am I still on the fence!
