A new place for us to share the lovely, silly and annoying things that happen in church life and share our great love of Graham Kendrick.

Is a church do for new year really that unusual?

EddSimcox · 29/12/2016 23:42

IDK amamma There is usually a small quiet watch-night service at my church. I've never heard of a big party type thing in church but then I'm not familiar with many different types of churches.

Doublegloucester · 30/12/2016 00:32

I could join either day :)
Broomstick, another Merrily fan, yay!

amammabear · 30/12/2016 00:36

Yeah, we don't do watch night services in my denomination

Fink · 30/12/2016 07:15

We have an all-night vigil once a month, but not on New Year's Eve. There's a midnight service on 31st but it's in Tamil.

I would love to join in Compline but, like a pp, I'll be away and unsure of Internet access. I'll pray it anyway and if you decide a time I'll make sure I stick to that but might not log on first.

BroomstickOfLove · 30/12/2016 08:19

I might be at a party, but could sneak away for a few minutes. DD is pretty ill at the moment though, so it looks unlikely that I'll be able to make it (and frankly, even if she's better by then, I'll be wanting a night of unbroken sleep and a little weep that she's out of pain rather than attempting to look glam after the past couple of days).

Madhairday · 30/12/2016 10:53

Maybe we should try nyd instead as more around?

Not sure if I'll still be awake at 10pm tomorrow as chest infection/pleurisy taken turn for worse. Tortured myself by looking at FB feed of lots of healthy looking people out and about enjoying being together on beaches and parks etc then feeling crap at being stuck in and my lot missing out. Dh has taken the dc out shopping though. I should practise contentment as I am writing a book on the subject! Hmm

niminypiminy · 30/12/2016 19:42

MHD that sounds very hard. Pleurisy is so painful too. Very hard to be content when you'd love to be up and out and doing things like everybody else. Mind you it is horrible out there today - went for a quick walk along dank muddy fields and wished I hadn't bothered.

I think Sunday/NYD might be better all round. Let's say some time between 9.30 and 10.30 as people have different things going on that mean they can't do later or earlier. The God who made space and time will sort it all out so that we are together, I'm sure.

I'll start a thread for it with a link to the Northumbria compline and any others I find.

Tuo · 30/12/2016 21:17

Thanks niminy. I'll be there.

MHD, lovely... go easy on yourself. It's OK to feel frustrated and pleurisy is hideous (not had it, but have seen my mum deal with it a couple of times and I know how much pain she was in...). Get well soon.

BroomstickOfLove · 30/12/2016 21:30

I'll do my best to be there. It depends on how DD is doing. She has impacted constipation and is gradually passing the enormous rock-like chunks of poo, and it is genuine agony. Far worse than childbirth. And there's so little I can do to help.

I like the physicality of the Northumbria complines. They feel properly like being tucked up in bed by a loving parent.

nickelbabeinamanger · 31/12/2016 14:38

Okey dokey, NYD is fine for me

Dutchoma · 31/12/2016 17:46

And for me. I'll look out for the link and the thread

Doublegloucester · 01/01/2017 14:04

Happy new year all! Hope mhd and broomstick's dd are feeling better today.
Looking forward to later Smile

Madhairday · 01/01/2017 16:31

Happy new year and see you all later! 🌼

BroomstickOfLove · 01/01/2017 18:28

See you after Sherlock has finished!

bootygirl · 01/01/2017 19:11

broomstick I will be watching Sherlock too.

Madhairday · 01/01/2017 19:31

Me three! Love Sherlock.

nickelbabeinamanger · 03/01/2017 15:46

Afternoon!
I did the ccompline on new year's day but couldn't get online to do it.
so I've put an amen on there today Grin

Madhairday · 03/01/2017 18:29

Afternoon Nickel :)

Whole family gone down with this winter flu type thing, great on top of a chest infection. Everyone is moping round the house groaning and sniffing, it's really quite amusing. I feel hit by a sledgehammer...

building2017 · 03/01/2017 18:31

Hiya, just jumping on here for like minded churchy types. Grin

Dutchoma · 03/01/2017 18:38

Welccome building2017. So that we know what pew to shove you into, can you find and answer the questions at the beginning of this thread. Otherwise you may not find yourself with likeminded churchgoers, you see. Smile

building2017 · 03/01/2017 18:51
Grin
  1. both

  4. love his most famous songs but am not stalking him

I meant like-minded as in people who GO to church, not particular about which church really.

Am presently struggling with questions of denomination in our village church. Am in a CofE church that is struggling to keep its younger congregation. Am probably Anglican really, but I'm happy going to services at the Baptist Church in the village too. Also enjoy quite high church services and very evangelical stuff on occasion. God is 'an ecumenical matter' in my book. Grin

Am I allowed on this thread, then?

building2017 · 03/01/2017 18:54

Maybe I'll just stand in the aisle if you can't find a pew for me. Wink

niminypiminy · 03/01/2017 19:14

Nickel great that you were with us! It was so lovely to be saying compline together. Maybe one day we can do it, or something g similar, again.

MHD that is pants, no double pants. We've had the flu-ey thing here too and it's all been very mopey and washed out here, making a very grumpy end to the holidays. And we don't have serious lung diseases on top of it.

Building you are very welcome! We have all sorts of denominations and church-types. Pull up a pew or chair or whatever you'd like to sit on, get a mug of fair-trade tea or coffee and join our happy band chewing over the ups and downs and ins and outs of church life! SmileBrew
