A new place for us to share the lovely, silly and annoying things that happen in church life and share our great love of Graham Kendrick.

Mind you, if anyone asked for them, I would get them typed asap...

amammabear · 18/12/2016 13:37

Do you go to the same church...?

Dutchoma · 18/12/2016 14:33

Do you really think it is an oversight that you don't have the pcc minutes yet Nickel ? My guess is that they 'think' that, as you have left' you are no longer entitled to pcc minutes.

DanyellasDonkey · 18/12/2016 15:12

Oh I've had enough Angry.

A 45 minute sermon from a preacher who can't even talk using proper grammar. Sorry if this doesn't matter to some people, but I sit there cringing at the likes of -

" We have came here today..............."
"After the people had went............"
When you've did that........................"

etc etc etc

amammabear · 18/12/2016 15:34

That world drove me nuts too... 😉

Dutchoma · 18/12/2016 15:34

45 minutes of that? How did you not walk out?

OrlandosGibbon · 18/12/2016 15:52

May I join you all?

What were those questions? Oh yes - trad, choir, organ, hymnbook. GK? Met him once, seemed a nice chap. Not a fan of the music, but it's better than Hillsongs.

Loosely connected to two churches via music - one as an occasional organist (and typer-up of PCC minutes), another as a singer in the choir that deps for the official men/boys/girls robed choirs.

Struggling to find a church home that my (almost certainly ASD) 5yo can cope with.

DanyellasDonkey · 18/12/2016 17:58

Believe me Dutchoma I felt like it!

Sadly this has become something of the norm and no comment was made about it at coffee afterwards. So the whole service, including coffee lasted 2 hours Hmm

DragonNoodleCake · 18/12/2016 18:02

Carols by candlelight- service starting now Smile

SilenceOfThePrams · 18/12/2016 20:57

Our communion this month was also cancelled, due to lack of available Holy Hands, although we generally have an inspiring collection of retired clergy (think our church is where they come to die. Not sure what that says about us). Hey ho. There will be a midnight one and a silly o'clock one next week, but can't really get to either of those with children.

Very jolly children's carol service though. Adult ones should be wrapping up nicely now.

nickelbabeinamanger · 18/12/2016 21:19

The reason I want the pcc minutes is so I can have the papertrail where they sacked me from the messy church team.
It was at that pcc meeting, so I want to know what was discussed.
Especially as I have spoken to another pcc member who doesn't recall the discussion (so partly also need to know who was there and who wasn't too)
The fact they're being so reluctant to give me the minutes suggests that they're trying to hide their arses.
When I asked the safeguarding office (who was the one who told me I was sacked), she replied to me by email that I couldn't see the minutes until after the pcc meeting January when they are formally agreed (which us what NV told her to tell me). I replied by quoting and forwarding the diocese guidelines for secretaries that states that the pcc minutes have to be published for anyone on the electoral roll to see asap after the meeting, preferably within 2 weeks.

nickelbabeinamanger · 18/12/2016 21:22

Hi Orlando's
Brew
I would suggest mine for tradition, but they seen very incapable if accepting disabilities, even in people they've kniwn for many years.

nickelbabeinamanger · 18/12/2016 21:24

I am, of course, even more upset with their blatant crapness at upkeeping the facebook page - a tiny mention in passing of 9 lessons and carols tonight (calling it lessons and carols instead).
They took me off the admin of the page when we left - which basically means they had decided that this time they weren't even going to try to fight for us. Not even dh with his 48 years of service and nearly 20 years of being Organist

BlessThisMess · 18/12/2016 21:34

We've had a fabulous (funny) nativity service this morning and a lovely candlelit carol service tonight, both featuring DD2 Smile. We don't have a Christmas Eve service (might go to the CoE for that) so that's it till Christmas Day for us!

EddSimcox · 18/12/2016 22:33

dan nightmare! I'd find another church...

nickel sympathies, must be so frustrating and upsetting

Hi orlandos and silence and anyone else I've not said hello to yet :)

I went to church twice today which as those of you who've known me for a while will know would have been impossible a year ago. It was not without consequences ... naturally, but I was really pleased to take 2 of the DC to the carol service tonight. It was lovely, lots of 'guest' performers and a gospel choir. Grin

I'm reading at midnight mass, which will be good I hope. 10 people for Xmas dinner, so no church on Xmas day itself.

Madhairday · 18/12/2016 22:47

Sad because I've missed carols by candlelight tonight as I've gone down with a chest infection. Xmas Sad

Pah.

Edd, so glad you got to church today. But so bittersweet I know. Flowers

Lissettethehallswithholly · 18/12/2016 23:12

Good to hear Edd. Sorry to hear about the infection MHD - hoping much improved by Christmas day.

amammabear · 18/12/2016 23:22

Nickel can you get someone else on the electoral roll to request them

Fergusmum · 18/12/2016 23:43

Can I join? My previous post has gone missing.
Just back from a live nativity, with 2 donkrys, carols by Candlelight. Fabulous.
Caulk - tonight we sang Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah but with Christmas words. Stunning. Also how about 'See him lying on a bed of straw (sang tonight) Not sure what u r looking.
I see or think most of you are CofE.

thegreenheartofmanyroundabouts · 19/12/2016 06:43

We didn't do a carol service last night which in hindsight was really good planning as I have lost my voice. Carols are later in the week timed to coincide with the schools breaking up and the 'what do we do with the children in the evening?' question.

I am C of E. I also trained on the regional course juggling study, placements, part time work and being a mother and wife. I found it really good training as no two days are the same.

Any spare prayers for the voice would be much appreciated!

amammabear · 19/12/2016 07:49

Fergus I love calypso carol, that and starry night are my favorites to sing. That might out me on my denomination...

EddSimcox · 19/12/2016 21:18

oh MHD that's crap timing. sending love and prayers Flowers

fergusmum that sounds great, I love that song so much despite it being probably the most over-played song of all time!

greenheart you will need your voice by the weekend, if not before, more rubbish timing, and more prayers and Flowers too

amamma it might out you to some, but not me! but then I was the one who had never heard of GK

Fergusmum · 19/12/2016 21:20

Bit confused is this post only for CofE members. Cannot really relate to much of the discussion on here. PEACE.

nickelbabeinamanger · 19/12/2016 21:50

We welcome anyone of faith Fergus
We do have a fair bit of banter though - this thread is less religion and more chat amongst ppeople of faith (we find that it's hard to talk about our faith in other places, so it's a place to vent and chat)
Yes, most of us are CofE, but that's just because that's how it's happened - bo deliberate.

You're welcome to hang around for a while and see what you think of us :)
Brew

nickelbabeinamanger · 19/12/2016 21:55

amanmabear - I like that idea. I might do that.

Edd looks like your twice included one for me! My mum and dad visited this weekend (they're home now), and we decided to have a lie-in and meet them earlier. And then after dinner, i had a bit to drink (it was dh's turn to drive) and I decided I didn't want to leave the pib ti go to a carol service at a church where everyone would ask us why we weren't at our own church doing the big choir service. We're going to find one mid week instead
