We were having this discussion after mass this morning.

My favourite is Agnus Dei.
When sung in church it lifts my heart. Beautiful

"Tell Out My Soul" is probably my favourite hymn at the moment.

I love Taize and any opportunity to use that in worship is much appreciated.

lilystem · 24/04/2014 07:47

Be thou my vision sung really loudly at Christ church Clifton with drums and all sorts of jazzy music stuff going on that I now don't get in my tiny country parish church.

Auntimatter · 24/04/2014 07:53

Now the green blade riseth.

Bifauxnen · 24/04/2014 08:02

How great thou art and abide with me. Though the latter has a 50/50 chance of making me cry.

Beanymonster · 24/04/2014 08:21

I think we have quiet a 'modern' church worship team, but this
my Jesus, my saviour
Is always gaurenteed to make me feel uplifted :)

InMySpareTime · 24/04/2014 08:32

In Christ Alone

The line "from life's first cry to final breath" gets me every time!

PositiveAttitude · 24/04/2014 08:46

Amazing Grace. That's my all time favourite and my family all know I want it at my funeral, but the words "When I've been there 10 thousand years....." needs to be just that, not 1 thousand years as some versions seem to say!

niminypiminy · 25/04/2014 13:54

I love 'Tell Out My Soul' as well, and any day where I get to sing 'And Can It Be' is a good day for me!

Weegiemum · 25/04/2014 13:58

Be Thou My Vision. We had it at our wedding and it's my favourite.

For modern songs, I'd go for Blessed Be Your Name, or God Of The City.

My dh's fave is When I Survey The Wondrous Cross and dd1(14) loves May Your Life Be So Sweet.

niminypiminy · 25/04/2014 13:59

I used God of the City in a service recently, didn't know it before, but it's a great song. Very glad to have come across it.

Appletini · 29/04/2014 00:32

Can I have a carol? I love O Come O Come Emmanuel.

BackforGood · 29/04/2014 00:48

Love Divine (to Bleanwern)

and

Be Still in the Presence of the Lord

are two of my favourites, but I often think 'Oh, I love this one' when dozens of different hymns get chosen so it's quite hard to narrow down.

SoonToBeSix · 29/04/2014 00:51

Also In Christ Alone.

DrewsWife · 29/04/2014 05:51

Under the cover of his wings. And written in red.

And anything played by the brass band

Cockadoodledooo · 29/04/2014 06:14

And can it be.

"My chains fell off my heart was free" makes me Grin

Beanymonster · 29/04/2014 07:55

soontobe6 that's my second favourite, so uplifting!!

My dp loves the one with 'yaweh, yaweh, I love sing your name oh lord'?

sunnyspot · 29/04/2014 20:09

Be still for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One is here.
Crown him with many Crowns.
I watch the Sunrise.
To be a Pilgrim.

Love them all really but these stand out for me.

Love all of these and this thread has made me feel all uplifted sitting here in a hospital bed ??

For hymns, I love And can it be, be thou my vision, how great though art, thine be the glory, see what a morning, Holy holy holy, love divine and oh well everything really! Newer songs at the moment my favourites are Oceans by hillsong utd, 10,000 reasons by Matt Redman and this is our God by hillsong.

madhairday · 01/05/2014 10:03

Thou not though!!

"Lord, you call us to a journey" is my current favourite.

MrsPixieMoo · 01/05/2014 19:25

Make me a channel of your peace and Shine, Jesus Shine

HanSolo · 01/05/2014 19:41

Well, there are many, many settings of the Agnus Dei, which one is it you like?
Some are fantastic, and some decidedly not!

Purcell's Evening Hymn is lovely, but my favourite to sing is Vaughan Williams' 5th mystical song, commonly known as LEt All the WOrld in EVery COrner SIng.
ANd Parry's I Was Glad

Oopssaidtoomuch · 01/05/2014 19:44

I love 'On Eagles wings'. We sang it at the end of my Dad's funeral as his coffin was carried out. Very powerful

I also love 'Adeste Fideles' - that, for me, is Christmas.
