Thank you greeneggs I have checked the sunset time here. Please could you translate the greetings? Sorry to be so demanding!

greeneggsandjam · 19/07/2014 00:33

Yes

Salam alaikum means peace be upon you, its a greeting said between Muslims regardless of what language they actually speak. the person will respond with walaikum salam.

Ramadan Kareem is basically wishing someone a blessed/generous Ramadan. You could also say Ramadan Mubarak, it pretty much carries the same meaning.

You could always put The Islam Channel or British Muslim TV on for when the guest is there, I watch them on the internet and they are very active this month.

By the way, something like rice pudding is always good for me as some kind of pudding after food during Ramadan. I don't want cakes and the likes but rice pudding is simple and helps you get through the next day I find.

Let us know how it goes!

LuisSuarezTeeth · 19/07/2014 08:03

Thank you so much for all the advice! I am going to make a lamb tagine (I do this well) with couscous, salads and bread.

I've made fruit cocktail to serve with crushed ice and will make sure the dates are handy.

Am I ok with offering tea and coffee after the meal? Also should I provide a separate towel for drying hands after washing? As in not the one everyone uses in the bathroom?

Wow I'm nervous now!

greeneggsandjam · 19/07/2014 09:27

Yes hot drinks are fine to offer. No need for the separate towel. Maybe offer a place to do the Maghrib prayer? Good luck!

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 19/07/2014 09:56

Don't be nervous! It's just a meal after all.

LuisSuarezTeeth · 19/07/2014 10:25

Thanks - which prayer is that? Before the meal?

peacefuloptimist · 19/07/2014 15:33

Salams all

Ive just been researching eid outfits this morning and came across this website.

en.modanisa.com/minel-ask.shtml

Anyone heard of or ordered from them before. I think they are turkish. Some of their designer dresses are so original and gorgeous. But dont know whether its too good to be true and dont really understand the sizing. They ship to the uk but dont know whether to trust them.

greeneggsandjam · 19/07/2014 17:26

Asr is the prayer before(but may have already done it) and Maghrib is after eating.

Elusive · 20/07/2014 00:14

salaam all. Hope ramadan is going well inshallah. Down to the last 10 days. Everyone is praying for Gaza. Words cannot express what they have to suffer. Sad

suarez hope your dinner went well - I'm sure it did Smile

peaceful. Nice clothes on that website, but I dont know why I dont trust it!!!! No reason not to trust it though!!!! Sorry, i know thats not very helpful!

What are everyone's plans for Eid? I just cant be bothered to cook this year (for Eid I mean) but dont know how to avoid???

littleducks · 20/07/2014 02:04

I like a eid bbq..... Just marinate stuff in advance and pass cooking duty over to dh.

Just wondering we always pray before iftar, is that not common?

My children are still awake. eating atm and hoping to fast tomorrow. plan is that they sleep in until at least lunch time. Let's see if they can keep to that part off the deal!

LuisSuarezTeeth · 20/07/2014 08:19

Hi all - it was all called off! He got stuck at the airport and I had a horrid allergic reaction to insect bites. I've got lumps the size of golf balls all over me Grin

But I've made a note of all your advice and we are rescheduling, possibly after Ramadan.

Isn't life odd sometimes?

Big kids still asleep and just coaxed the baby back to sleep. He isn't enjoying the heat/humidity poor little thing.

Luis. You must be disappointed (and itchy) hopefully it will come off another time.

I remember that from last year, it was lovely. Who started the chain? I seem to remember they missed out on a gift?
I've just been making eid cakes with ds to take to school. Early in fact, but when I ordered 40 rice cake toppers I forgot they would be on holiday on eid day!

Welcome to muslim tea room 2.
greeneggsandjam · 20/07/2014 16:51

Isn't that just typical Luis! Still, at least you have enough nice food for a couple of days!

Nice cakes Ehric!

Yes I got those on eBay, 20 of those design ready cut and another set with different designs that I had to cut out. They are really pretty. We have some left so I will make a batch and take them to our immediate neighbours I think. They weren't expensive, £2-3 per set I think. Well I suppose that's quite a lot for rice paper but they were worth it!

LuisSuarezTeeth · 20/07/2014 18:19

I know, maybe it was date giving me a chance to stress plan more!

I got antihistamine and HC cream and it's gone down a lot but sooooo itchy. I'm rather glad my guest got stuck, can you imagine being confronted by this frantically scratching, lumpy, wild eyed woman? Grin

The cupcakes look fab!

Eid is quite a big celebration isn't it? Is the date fixed or does it depend on different areas/sighting of the moon? Hope you don't mind all the questions! Thank you x

greeneggsandjam · 20/07/2014 20:11

There are 2 eids in the year Luis, they are the big celebrations. Eid will be in around about 10 days but as you say it isn't fixed as it depends on the sighting of the moon. I hope you are feeling a little better.

I have seen the cake toppers on websites before and they look very nice but I'm not sure how much I like rice paper!

Crescent moon can you tell us who owns the Just Giving page? Are they in Gaza now to distribute funds?

I am happy to give to the Eid gift exchange but also feel kind of funny giving my details out in case I know the person/they turn out to be not quite all there!

I'm in a hurry to go out so this will be quick. OK so I will send something to the next person who joins then. Who gives to you then Cresentmoon? I am confused!

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 21/07/2014 10:44

I am up for the gift chain! A lovely idea
