So, if i donate to islamic relief, say £100, would my judgement day heaven balance contain £200 even though its UK aid matching? Grin

Salam ladies. Hope you are all well. Just a quick note to say any of you on Facebook check out The Money Movement if you haven't already seen it. Good idea for raising awareness for Palestine..

Elusive · 15/07/2014 14:42

Salaam sisters, hope everyone is having a good Ramadan. It's been nice to read the posts about Palestine here, I feel so incredibly sad about it, but find I don't enjoy discussing it at home is my husband feels very angry about it and that kind of makes me feel even more stressed about it, if that makes sense?
On the plus side we are having a lovely Ramadan in our house, I had a mid-Ramadan dip, where I felt completely shattered but seem to have found my second wind now! How is everyone else doing?

LostHasBeenFound · 16/07/2014 09:42

Crescent that speech made me cringe, I can't stand the guy.

He's backing Israel yet telling us all to have a happy Ramadan. Propaganda. And as for Muslims being the biggest donators to charity, you don't see any mention of that in the news do you? I'm getting a bit of a rage on thinking about it. I digress.

We're having a very chilled Ramadan here Mrs, I too had a few days where I felt like I couldn't carry on, ds had a very bad few nights and I had 2-3 hours sleep on those nights. But I ploughed through it and am out the other side inshallah. I've only got a few days left of fasting as I'll be on my period soon, so it'll be over for me this year. I can't believe how quickly it's going now.

Yay, i will look for those dates crescent. I also tend to buy Palestinian olive oil.

The 4 boys in Gaza today, i am sickened. How can we make our government take action - any action. They are so cowardly quiet. It sickens me.

BettyButter · 17/07/2014 01:20

The Money Movement is people around the world writing FREE PALESTINE on all their bank notes, if enough get into circulation as we spend them then it goes a little way to show the government what it's people want. I have a lot of non Muslim friends supporting the movement. I know it's not enough but even if it raises awareness. My DH too has been getting very stressed out about it (he watches the videos etc on Facebook) and I think for ten mins it helped him feel like he was doing something...

MrsAtticus · 17/07/2014 01:28

I'll look in to the money movement bettybutter. I think it's a man/woman thing when you see something awful and you don't know what to do - anger/sadness.

Hello all, I wonder if I could ask for some advice and guidance please?

I will be cooking a meal for someone observing Ramadan and of course all the usual rules. I'm a bit nervous of getting it wrong and also where to purchase halal meat. There are no halal butchers around here and I can't seem to get a definitive answer regarding supermarkets.

Could you all advise please, any tips or hints most welcome, thank you!

LuisSuarezTeeth · 18/07/2014 14:08

This is for tomorrow evening by the way, thank you x

greeneggsandjam · 18/07/2014 18:49

What part of the country are you in?

Some supermarkets have a halal section in , the meat packaging would have a little halal sign on it if you have a look. Are you cooking them 1 thing for them to take to their house to eat or are you inviting them over?

Fish would be ok to eat by the way. Get some dates if you are inviting as that is the first thing to eat with some water/milk.

Thanks all! I am inviting him for a meal that I will cook, I am aiming for 9.30pm. I've researched the guidelines concerning halal foods, so I know not to use alcohol or cook in anything non-halal.

I've heard this about New Zealand lamb - is this 100% reliable?

I'm in rural East Midlands greeneggs

I'm not terribly confident with cooking fish, but I'd be happy to do lamb. I was thinking something slightly different to what is being eaten during Ramadan? Also, what do I do with the dates? Serve whole/chop? I'm sorry to sound so ignorant, I'm trying to learn Grin

LuisSuarezTeeth · 18/07/2014 19:55

Um, also, could you possibly educate me as to the greetings etc - he speaks perfect English, but I would like to try a couple of words without sounding stupid? Thank you Thanks

greeneggsandjam · 18/07/2014 22:23

The dates you just leave as they are, only need a small amount and this will be the first thing he eats.

I have heard about the new Zealand lamb being halal but I have never considered buying it myself.

You could always do something vegetarian?

Is 9.30 the time to break the fast where you are? I would check a local mosque website, if you are in the Midlands I would imagine Leicester or soemewhere would have a website with a timetable, you might find its a bit earlier than half 9 but I could be wrong.

greeneggsandjam · 18/07/2014 22:24

Greetings, hmm.

Salam alaikum and ramadam kareem would suffice I think!

greeneggsandjam · 18/07/2014 22:28

Oh and juice is always really welcome.

I have looked at some articles on halal meat being sold by the supermarkets without the label, they do suggest it being halal but I still wouldnt buy it myself. Are you certain there are no halal shops nearby or at least a big supermarket that would have a halal section?
