He shaved the cat!

So I have a gorgeous little Tortie cat who, bless her, somehow caught fleas. So I headed out to get some 'spot on' treatment and some flea shampoo so I could give her a wash and some fog sprays for the house so that my partner felt less stressed because he hates bugs. Anyway, when I came home there was cat fur everywhere. He's given her a full skin head cut. Now I understand and she looks cute bless her. To be fair the fleas have gone, she's an indoor cat so I'll keep her warm till it grows back but ever since I've noticed I feel like I have hay fever. Super itchy throat, eyes, ears, skin! Please tell me this is just crazy timing and it's not me somehow suddenly being allergic to my cat?

I'd kick my dh out if he ever abused my cats. I'd report him to the RSPCA too. If the cat has monthly flea tablets they won't get fleas. Anyone who thinks this is cute is a very sick human being. The cat would have been terrified and now will have the stress of living with her abuser. It is very serious OP. Don't let him just shrug it off.

i think you need reporting @caringcarer

to someone who can help you understand how the world works

reporting to rspca 😂

If she’s an indoor cat how did she get fleas? 😬

If she’s an indoor cat how did she get fleas? 😬

@ElFupacabra

as has already been explained, from flea eggs laying dormant in carpets, soft furnishings etc

ComeTheFckOnBridget · 12/07/2023 09:46

How on earth did he manage to shave a cat?!

He shaves the cat and you understand and thinks she looks cute? If I called you both what I wanted to, I’d be deleted.

Same. Poor poor cat. She will need a lot of care from you now to make sure she doesn’t get abrasions, cuts or scrapes that become infected. You will need to make sure her environment is clean (bedding etc) but be careful with cleaning products that she may react to as she no longer has protection against chemicals used in them. Check the labels on cleaning products and buy hypoallergenic products if you can. She shouldn’t go out as she she has no protection against UV and seasonal vegetation that can scratch/ irritate. Be prepared for some lively vets bills as I doubt this will be covered under your insurance. Your DH may well have just cost you the price of a family holiday so he needs to think on.

Is this a kind of joke about a shaved pussy?

How did he get it to stay still long enough?

Mirabai · 12/07/2023 10:04

That’s major trauma for the cat. Both the act of shaving and the fact of no fur.

You have a very very stupid partner.

daverday · 12/07/2023 10:20

Please please please encourage him to have a vasectomy.

shropshirewitch · 12/07/2023 10:21

That poor cat. Your DH is a twat.

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 12/07/2023 09:33

@Idrankyourbananamilk Interesting, I've had a couple of indoor cats and never had fleas or, to be honest, ever heard of anyone's indoor cat getting fleas but I stand corrected.

I still call bullshit though

I’m inclined to agree with you!

rainbowstardrops · 12/07/2023 10:29

Right-e-o

ttcat37 · 12/07/2023 10:29

Are you really more worried about your sniffly nose than your ‘D’P cruelly shaving the cat? Think how terrified she was and how it’s going to fuck with her temperature. Do the cat a favour and rehome it.
Hate to break it to you but you have not got rid of the fleas. Your stupid partner needs to get to work shaving the carpets and soft furnishings. Perhaps they’ll ‘look cute’ though too

I dread to think

lemondust000 · 12/07/2023 10:35

Absolute dickheads

Jongleterre · 12/07/2023 10:35

If this is true then he is a vile ignoramus and should not be allowed to keep pets as he has no understanding of animal welfare.

I couldn't be with anyone that stupid and cruel.

burntshortbread · 12/07/2023 10:37

I cannot recall any cat I have ever known that would allow itself to be shaved.

Wednesdaysotherchild · 12/07/2023 10:39

cryinglaughing · 12/07/2023 06:38

Who in their right mind would shave a cat?
It is an incredibly cruel thing to do, the cat was probably very stressed to have that done.

I would find that unforgivable, get rid of him and give your poor cat some tlc.

This, animal cruelty and selfishness are red flags for me!

Kimchikitchen · 12/07/2023 10:39

burntshortbread · 12/07/2023 10:37

this is a grown man

with enough brute force he could likely hold down an adult female

so is it really so baffling to imagine him holding down a cat?

readbooksdrinktea · 12/07/2023 10:39

How is this in any way cute? Awful of him.

burntshortbread · 12/07/2023 10:37

Exactly this. ^ It's almost impossible to administer eardrops, or pop meds into a cat's mouth. And it's impossible to cut a cat's claws for many people. No-one would be able to shave a cat. Weird thread. Hmm

CurlewKate · 12/07/2023 10:40

I do find this hard to believe. But I'd it's true, you need treatment from the vet for the fleas. Don't bath the cat- even more traumatic, and doesn't work.

Again

this is an adult man versus a cat

with enough brute force and aggression…

soberfabulous · 12/07/2023 10:42

Fleas breed in carpets and soft furnishings. The cat is only part of the issue.

Aitchoo · 12/07/2023 10:43

Totally unlikely this happened.
