Help please naming a female black labradoodle!

We have become the proud owners of a lovely female black labradoodle and all the doggie names I can think of are male. DS2 wants Pippin so the options so far that I have are:-

Pippin
Molly
Maisie (although not sure about this one as it is the name of one of DS1's friends little sisters).

lucky you ....we met a woman on holiday with a gorgeous labradoodle and I now want one!

how about Jet? or is that a boy's name?

QuootieSpookypie · 29/10/2007 23:03

Dolly?

dollyk · 29/10/2007 23:03

winnie

MrsSpoon · 29/10/2007 23:12

I think I'm liking Dolly best at the moment. Trying to imagine shouting it at the park.

Not sure about Jet, I imagine Jet to be sleek and our dog will have a more scruffy look.

Liking Ella and Eva but have the problem of knowing children with those names, not sure if the parents would take it as a compliment or an insult.

Just been on a labradoodle site and they have a list of names including Mabel for a twist on the Come Outside theme my DS2 seems keen on, also Noodle.

IamDaisy, I've just read that book about the dog called Marley (can't remember the name of it off the top of my head) might be a bit copy cat.

Doodle, on the Noodle theme.

(Off to check on her, she's sleeping and decide whether to leave her be tonight or try and move her) but will check on this thread tomorrow so keep the suggestions coming.

Doodle reminds me of the Tweenies dog (bloody cbeebies!)

I personally don't like "human" names on dogs - think it can be a bit odd saying something like "EMMMMAAA" over the park and everyone expecting a child to run over when a great big dog does (and yes - I know a retreiver called Emma!)

How about Shadow, Star (theme of night = darkness)

When do you get the dog? they are a wonderful breed by the way - really good with kids... why not wait to see what her temperament is?

Alambil · 29/10/2007 23:26

PMSL doodle!!

chocolateteapot · 29/10/2007 23:28

I know a black female labradoodle called Toodles.

MrsSpoon · 30/10/2007 09:40

ROFL @ Tess and Tickle!

I'm liking Doodle and Toodles is cute. Quite like Shadow.

LewisFabBAHons we've got the dog already, she came home last night, she seems to be of a really gentle friendly nature (deliberately didn't pick the livewire of the litter, especially after reading Marley & Me but this little one seemed placid but not nervy in any way, she still came up to investigate us).

DS2 however was calling her Pippin this morning so perhaps there is no getting away from it.

Ilike human names for dogs. As long as it's not 'Dave' or 'Keith' or 'Alison' etc. My dog has a human name.

PestoPumpkinMonster · 30/10/2007 10:00

My friend has a black guide dog called Onyx, which I think is quite a nice name.

IamDaisy · 30/10/2007 10:03

If I ever have a dog, he'll be called Colin!

but that doesn't help you does it?

Pippin is nice....like the dog in Come Outside.

LittleB · 30/10/2007 10:24

I like Pippin, thats what my dd wanted to call our dog, he's called Rhubarb though - I don't like human names on dogs either, we get varied opinions on his name, its like marmite, you either love it or hate it, think its funny or just odd. By the way I think marmite is great name for a black dog but does sound more like a boys name, as does Marley - we had a boy dog calley Marley (was named when we got him).
How about these 'black' names blackberry, sooty or go completely off the wall, I know someone with 2 black dogs, they're called snowy and spot!
Is your labradoodle part standard poodle or minature poodle? They are lovely dogs, I'm glad you managed to decide which breed to go for. Have you got a crate yet, I find ours a huge help, especially when we were house training him and to know he's safe when we're out (he's still teething so wouldn't want him chewing something he shouldn't and getting ill).

NBheebieGeebies · 30/10/2007 10:27

My Midwife brought her gorgeous black lab round at the weekend and shes called Sadie.

Lovely name and a gorgeous dog.

MrsSpoon · 30/10/2007 16:55

We are still in possession of a nameless dog, think I would have relented at DS2's "Pippin" but DS1 is having none of it, been on the phone to my Mum and she suggests Kizzie which is quite nice and have also thought of Bella today (can you see a cbeebies theme emerging ).

LitleB, DH is out at the moment getting the crate, the breeder recommended putting her in the crate at night as well as when we were out, seems a bit cruel, but perhaps necessary to get her used to it if want her to use if when we are out.
