Ladies. Please can someone comfort me that my cat will come back? He went missing yesterday afternoon. I cant eat, sleep, function without him. Ive asked neighbours and walked around again and again. No where to be seen. Cant stop crying. I feel sick with worry that hes hurt.

How awful for you.
This happened to me a few years ago and I was beside myself as it was very unlike him to stay out all night. He eventually strolled back in about 24 hours later as though nothing had happened.
My mum’s cat once went missing and he was eventually found inside a neighbour’s garage.
Could you print (or handwrite if you don’t have a printer) some letters for all your neighbour’s asking them to check their garages, sheds etc just incase.
Does your cat have a chip?
I really hope you find your furbaby soon x

Chopsuey1 · 02/12/2019 21:08

Thanks for your reply. Husband just posted flyers with my number on to request checking garages/sheds etc. But no replies as yet. Its been 24hrs now. Was really praying he would just walk back in but its not looking hopeful. He was such a lovely cat too....was only telling my son the other day thats hes my best friend 😥

Someone could have stolen him. Is he the sort of cat that would willingly go with someone into their home or is he a shy cat? Fingers crossed you can update in the morning that he’s home safe and sound

Lou0390 · 02/12/2019 21:24

My cat did this to me, 36 hours and was very out of character. I too was beside myself but she strolled in like nothing had happened.

Chopsuey1 · 02/12/2019 21:27

I did wonder if he had been stolen but dont think anyone could grab him...hes too scared of strangers.
Well that story fills me with hope. I really hope and pray he walks in. I cant take the not knowing....

Hope he turns up soon. Good idea to get neighbours to check sheds and garages. Have you thought about putting his litter tray outside if you have one or something of yours? (bedding/clothes) Apparently, cats have an amazing sense of smell and can smell them from miles away. Hopefully he’s just off on an adventure and will turn up soon x

Igmum · 02/12/2019 22:08

Hope he comes back soon OP. One of mine went awol a few years ago. Came back just as I finished plastering the road with posters. Think she read one and realised she was appreciated after all

Chopsuey1 · 03/12/2019 03:09

Thanks ladies. I really do hope he comes back. Ill put some bedding outside tomorrow.
Its 3am and I'm wide awake thinking about him still 😥. Wish i could just have him back.

Mine was missing to 8 days OP. Worst week ever, I sympathise. Thanks

Put the hoover contents around the garden for the scent, and scatter some stinky wet food or tuna outside too.

Chopsuey1 · 03/12/2019 07:21

0h thank you. 8 days?! I dont think i can take this for much longer. Im distraught. I lost a cat before and unfortunately he was injured and passed away before i could find him. So as you can imagine, I'm a mess right now.

Broken11Girl · 03/12/2019 07:24

Oh love Flowers Cats are survivors. He'll appear. Def put out hoover contents/ bedding/ food.

Chopsuey1 · 03/12/2019 07:32

I will. Thank you x

Can you go knocking on all the neighbors doors and ask them to check garages and sheds? Can you also ring round the vets in case he's been handed in poorly?

It's only been 2 days, so he could just be on a normal cat wander, but I agree it's awful not knowing what's going on. I was spending every night walking the streets in the snow calling him for 4 hours then drinking a bottle of wine a night to knock myself out.

I hope he walks back in today as if nothing happened. Get a nice piece of fish in for him in preparation.

MustardScreams · 03/12/2019 07:40

My cat went missing for 5 weeks! And then I came home late from work one evening and she was just sat in the kitchen like nothing had happened Shock

Don’t lose hope!

Chopsuey1 · 03/12/2019 07:54

My husband went to neighbours houses last night and asked them to check their gardens etc. The annoying thing is, i want to do it. I can have some peace of mind if I've looked myself. But hopefully they have had a look properly for us.

Thanks for your replies, it does give me some hope. But as its just so out of character, i feel like something bad has happened. Im going to go on another walk in a bit.

Don't give up hope. My young cat went missing for 2 weeks, he was trapped inside the local health centre. The nurses had been feeding him but didn't know who he belonged to. They eventually found me through a Facebook page for missing animals in our area. Have you checked to see if there's such a page for your area?

My other cat disappeared for 12 weeks. Came back looking like an extra from The Walking Dead. We've no idea where she was or what she was up to.

Chopsuey1 · 03/12/2019 08:10

Oh thats good to know. He went missing in the afternoon whilst we went out to cinema (when hes usually sleeping). So i wonder if he popped outside for the loo and was chased by another cat and lost his way. I cant imagine he just went off for an adventure in the afternoon. Hes quite scared of my loud kids so he loves sleeping on the sofa when they're out. Hes 8 years old so become less adventurous as hes got older.
I just cant make sense of whats happened 😥😥😥

HoppyHop · 03/12/2019 09:32

I really feel for you. It's awful. Another ray of hope story...our cat was missing for 9 days she woke me in the middle of the night screeching at me from the bedside table. I thought I was dreaming! She was very thin but recovered well.
Fingers crossed for you.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 03/12/2019 10:17

Definitely ask your neighbours to check sheds, garages and greenhouses. There's a thread about a lost cat in 'the litter tray' at the moment and their cat turned up (having been shut in) after 22 days

LochJessMonster · 03/12/2019 10:30

My friends cat went missing last Winter when we had that really horrific weather, she was devastated as we thought he had no chance.

Turns out he had moved in with a local feral colony at a farm and was living the high life. Farmer thought he was a bit friendly to be feral so took him to be scanned for a microchip. He came back overweight Grin

But, Op, cats do wander off totally out of character, and then just stroll in like nothing has happened. Don't lose hope yet.

Sparklfairy · 03/12/2019 10:36

I had one that went missing... and came back after 8 months! Shock Flowers

Do you have a local facebook page you can post on?

Chopsuey1 · 03/12/2019 10:56

Im so taken back by all your replies. Its a relief to have some contact with people who understand. My husband is amazing but doesnt have the closeness to cats that i have.
Ive posted to our local FB group and a few people have started to share it. Im going to ask neighbours to check again tonight i think. Dont want to come across too pushy.
Cant believe how long cats can go missing for. Wish they would just stay at home!

OP posts:
Sparklfairy · 03/12/2019 11:16

I know. It's so stressful! I was about 15, he had been born on my birthday (we had his mum too) and we were best friends. I was gutted when he disappeared out of the blue and got the shock of my life when he just reappeared months later! It does happen Smile

My DM has one who is a real homebody, who I adore. Her routine is like clockwork but on the odd occasion she's late home when I'm staying there I can't relax until she's back. Sometimes I think they're more worry than kids! Grin

Chopsuey1 · 03/12/2019 12:17

They really are! Its the thought of him being hurt that im finding distressing. But ive looked literally everywhere. I just cant find him. When i lost my old cat, who sadly died, she was in some woodland next to our house. Didnt take long to find her body.

OP posts:
Sparklfairy · 03/12/2019 15:00

I really hope he turns up OP. Try ringing vets if you haven't already as IME from FB groups that is the first port of call when a cat is found, so they can scan for a microchip. Even if he isn't chipped they'll be able to tell you from the description of he was brought in. Flowers
