thanks but am feeling really and his sister is crying around the house looking for him but i've not let her out today as he's missing though not sure if i should let her out to try and find him?

i just wondered if had come back yet

maybe u could tke other cat out in carrier or some thing then lost cat might hear her and come back

nicm · 21/02/2007 23:21

hi softmusk, thanks for asking, no he hasn't came home yet a friend suggested he may have gone after a cat that was in heat but i didn't think they did this if they had been neutered? will try that tomorrow with the other cat if the weather is any better. am going to put leaflets through letter boxes tomorrow to get people to check their sheds and garages. x

He might have got shut in somewhere - cats do love getting inside things (neighbour's cat got herself shut inside a large drawer for ages once) (have you checked all your drawers and cupboards?)

We once had a cat which disappeared for days but turned up eventually, thin and dirty.

Hope yours does too

MrsJohnCusack · 22/02/2007 00:35

definitely get all neighbours to check all outbuildings and their houses - when mine went missing years ago it turned out he'd been locked in a neighbour's shed whilst they were away for the weekend. And really check all your cupboards/drawers - they can get into suprisingly small spaces. And up trees/on roofs - they do sometimes get stuck in places having mistakenly thought they could get down again. also, people do feed cats without thinking, it's possible that he's reclining on someone's sofa (we had a cat that used to just turn up and sleep in our house even though we never fed him, and we never did manage to find out who he belonged to before he disappeared again!)

for a nice story, someone posted on here a few weeks back that their cat came back after MONTHS. I hope yours comes back soon too

macneil · 22/02/2007 05:00

Really feel for you. Both my cats, when I was a kid, went missing for about a week each a couple of times, I was distraught. One vanished in rough built up area when she was staying with my granny while we were on holiday because my granny let her go outside, even though she had no idea where she was and was alone and tried to find us. I went out with my dad and couldn't find her, then my mum went out looking for her in the same place, calling, and she came running up to us. Cats are amazingly good at looking after themselves, even tiny little ones. Best of luck, sweetheart, don't give up and keep calling her name.

lazyline · 22/02/2007 07:26

It's likely that once it gets cold and dark, it will find somewhere safe to sleep. It is not likely that it will come back at night. Once it gets light again, it might come back.

hi thanks all. he still hasn't turned up. have done leaflet drops today and will do the rest tomorrow. then all i can do is wait. thanks xx

Just saw this thread and had to ask if you had found him? Hope you have.x

nicm · 01/03/2007 00:24

hi furryfox, no he still hasn't came home have called all the cat charities that i can think of, have phoned all the vets in the area, have put posters in the shops and pet stores, have done leaflet drops to local houses and have planned to do more and have walked and driven around looking and calling for him and still nothing. it's like he's disappeared off the face of the earth. wouldn't be just as bad but we have his sister crying all the time in the house and looking for him. not sure what else i can do but wait? have had a few calls from the leaflets but when we've went looking he's gone.

FurryFox · 01/03/2007 16:26

Oh I'm so sorry His poor sister. You're doing all the right things though so I guess nothing more you can do other than keep looking and hope he comes home. How old is he? Was it his first time out? Really hope he's ok and comes home.x

ShowOfHands · 01/03/2007 16:37

Oh I really sympathise. My little cat has been missing for four weeks- taken all the steps you have and have her little sister at home really missing her.

Keep checking found cat notices on the internet (search for lost cat on google and check lists of websites of found pets on catchat website) and have you told the Missing Pet Bureau? All vets, rescue centres etc notify them of found cats and they aim to reunite wherever possible.

Had a few calls, possible leads and all have come to nothing. It's so devastating I know.

She's so friendly too, I bet she's found a new owner.

kittylette · 01/03/2007 16:38

how awful

we got 2 kittens from the same litter years ago, one of them got runover and the other was devestated, moaning and meowing for weeks, it was heartbreaking!!

i hope he comes home!

FurryFox · 01/03/2007 16:46

One of our cats went missing for three years once then one day just wandered in as if he had never been gone, had some food, scratched my Mum then left. He never came back again

FurryFox · 01/03/2007 16:47

Sorry, probably not the best thread to post that story. Hope both of your cats are ok and come home.x

TheOriginalXENA · 01/03/2007 17:06

I had a cat when I lived in a flat. when it was a kitten it went out and didn't come back for about 10 days. I heard a mewing at about 2am and let him in

nicm · 01/03/2007 18:59

it's awful showofhands. will keep my fingers crossed for your kitten too. furryfox yes it was the first time we hadn't been out with him in the garden. he's quite nervous so hope he's ok, not sure if he'd go to anyone. hope he would. just watching the weather and it's to be -5oC tonight so hope he's in somewhere with someone

aww nic - he hadnt come home yet?...he prob snuggled up at somewhere else and is nice and warm

dionnelorraine · 02/03/2007 10:32

Any news yet? I hope he comes home soon. Keep asking neighbours to check sheds and garages. Just to warn you though (havnt read all comments so I maybe repeating this) this is the breeding season. Males will travel for miles and miles just to find a female. Has he had the snip? Has he got collar and tag or id chip?

junkinmytrunk · 02/03/2007 10:36

Oh I hope you find him soon. They do manage to squeeze into the tiniest of holes and get into sheds and garages.
Someone may have found him and taken him into the warm so keep looking.

My cat came home after being missssing for 5 months, someone was de feeding her as she was fatter than when she left!

dionnelorraine · 02/03/2007 18:11

Any news yet nicm??
I really hope he is home now xx

nicm · 02/03/2007 18:49

hi dionnelorraine no he's not back yet. have cried on and off all day. he's been neutered so i'm hoping he hasn't gone off! would he still go. one person told me he would and others have said he won't? so not sure. wish everyone would get their cats done. we had both him and his sister done and i know they look realy bad after it may save others a lot of heartache? i feel like others when i say it's only a cat but they were both so ill when they came and having nursed them both back to good health it's heartbreaking to have one of them go!! he did have a collar on but no tag on it, just didn't think at the time and now feel bad for letting him out. xx

OP posts:
dionnelorraine · 02/03/2007 19:07

ah, please dont worry. It is good that he has been nuetered so shouldnt roam for miles. He maybe trapped somewhere in a garage or something or maybe someone else is feeding him. Put out posters everywhere. Phone the vets again and any local animal charities. Stay positive though. I hear of so many stories where cats come back days, weeks and even months later (not really encouraging I know) Just keep looking and asking around.
I hope he comes back soon. (((hugs)))

PeachyClair · 02/03/2007 19:10

Our cat was neutered and went off for a fortnight before returning, he was right as rain- just seemed to have gone for a wander. A local cat went missing as well for ages.... came back, he was much thinner as had been locked in a neighbouring shed bit he was a rather huge cat so that was a bonus!

If he's a litten someone might have tried to adopt him- can you get the local peper to do a plea?

nicm · 03/03/2007 18:43

OMG! he's home i can't belive it! got a phone call earlier and someone said he was in their back garden and they had given him a saucer of milk. OH went round and there he was. i just can't believe we've actually got him back. there was a cat killed on the road today but when we went to check it wasn't him. feel really sad but for the family who are just about to start going through what we have. he looks fine, maybe a bit skinnier but maybe that's not a bad thing, he was starting to get a but tubby thank you all for your support over the last week and a bit, was really appreciated xxx
