Is there a petition for the scientists who know more about Covid 19 than randoms from the internet to make the decision about when schools should open? I’d sign that.

@Boxachocs
Love this!!!!! Love it when Mum's army think they know best!!!

I'd also sign Boxachocs.
I'd also sign one about funding education properly so we have smaller classes permanently, by scrapping Trident and HS2.

No idea, why don't you Google it!
I'm only interested in my son's mental health which, as an only child, is rapidly deteriorating and with no health conditions he would be at minimal risk of catching anything. As a mum, and a teacher currently working from home as my year group isn't yet back, I'd be more than happy to take the risk going back to normal schooling for all given that IKEA, the pubs, McDonalds are open, people are pretty much ignoring social distancing when you go out shopping etc so why are our children being made to suffer - no parks, no friends, no education, no swimming, no library, no museums - but hey we can go and wander round IKEA and as of 22nd June sit in a pub garden. Where's the science in those decisions?
Beckyboo123 · 09/06/2020 11:05
I don’t think it would be physically possible to allow all children back and keep the children and staff safe. Say there are 30 children in a class they will need to be split into two groups which then needs twice the amount of teaching staff and two classrooms. Schools just cannot provide that. I know it’s really hard on the children but imagine if opening up the schools completely now causes more people to die, how can anybody justify that.
I know it’s not completely allowed but if your really that worried about your child why not arrange for them to meet a friend in yours or there’s garden or out in a park. You could encourage social distancing but not be to overly strict which is basically what is happening in schools. Just make sure you as the adults stay apart.

11:05Beckyboo123 I know all about school logistics as I'm a teacher - tbh I think given most of the population have given up on social distancing we should just return to normal. I am also worried about the educational impact of children - if school returns part time in September how long until our kids get their full quota again - it's not fair and it's not right and I think as a society new need to learn to live with the risk, we can't carry on like this indefinitely.
Playdates are easier said than done - you need the other party to be on board with meeting up.
Boxachocs · 09/06/2020 12:02
Just because you may feel YOU don’t care about not social distancing doesn’t mean everyone else should be forced to before the people who make the decisions based on safety say we can.

Go to the shops, go to the park, go the beach, go to homebase, walk along the highstreet - people AREN'T SOCIAL DISTANCING, anyone who still feels anxious about catching and wants lockdown to continue should stay indoors and let the rest of society get on with life - we can't live like this indefinitely what if they never find a vaccine or cure - how long should our kids suffer for?
CarrieBlue · 09/06/2020 12:07
It’s precisely because ikea and other places are open that schools should stay shut. Schools are workplaces and staff should not be put at risk by having to mix with up to 150 + people per day with no social distancing or ppe. When schools can be opened safely of course they should be opened as quickly as possible. But not just open now just like that.
ILoveMyMonkey · 09/06/2020 12:08
CarrieBlue well we'll have to agree to disagree. I'd happily return to my year 2 class of 30 and for my son to return to his class of 30 and I know other teachers at my school would too.

@Boxachocs
I much prefer this petition.
ILoveMyMonkey · 09/06/2020 12:25
good for you, such a hero to take risks
Thank you
Chocolatecake12 · 09/06/2020 12:30
I’d send my yr8 back tomorrow if I could.
It seems bonkers that children’s education is suffering however as op said - so long as we can all buy our Kallax units Then that’s ok.
greathat · 09/06/2020 12:39
If you find one @Boxachocs can you post the link here so I can sign it too please :)
