Found this petition online calling for all children to be back at school, thought I'd share the link for those who are interested...

Slowly places are opening including schools yes that’s my understanding too- I’m struggling to understand why schools and in fact anything related to children isn’t opening. The fact that people are saying no school in September is horrifying.

@ILoveMyMonkey sorry agreeing with you just too much sarcasm, I’m actually losing the plot. my kids want to play and not just wave at their friends. Also Zoos are allowed to open next week. It’s going to be announced today,

ILoveMyMonkey · 10/06/2020 10:46

@pinkazing ha ha 😂 no worries. I saw that announcement, finally - something child friendly (and help save the zoos iland animals in the process).

The fact that people are saying no school in September is horrifying. It doesn’t matter what people are ‘saying’. It’s not up to the people, it’s up to the government. Just like it’s not up to the OP, it’s about the needs of the many and a considered approach. We can’t open everything all at once or we will be back to where we started. Numbers are slowly dropping and places are slowly opening, zoos included.

It really is horrifying and there's another thread running now that suggests PT schooling until December - not sure how much truth is in that mind you.

From the tone of that petition and the replies on here anyone could think schools have been partially shut for pure shits and giggles. They closed for a reason - the reason still applies, it hasn’t gone away. Any particular reason why the NHS and vulnerable people’s lives don’t matter anymore??

You'd have to ask the government who feel the time was right to open IKEA, pubs, golf courses, non-essential shops, etc. If it's ok to open these then it should be ok to extend school provision so all children get some part time learning this side of the holiday and so that all are back in September.

All DCs will probably be back in September but on a part time basis. Social distancing will still apply to try to keep the virus in check. It hasn't gone away.

Hugepeppapigfan · 11/06/2020 21:06

I’m back working in school and okay about it.
But. Pub garden - adults choosing to be there after having made an informed decision
Classroom with no chance of social distancing - teachers and children who have not all made that choice. It’s been made for them by the parents.

This post is ridiculous. I'm a teacher and we have a 33 page risk assessment for having the children in school. There simply is not the staff or the space for all children to come back whilst adhering to the risk assessment - which has been created with the scientific evidence in mind. I'm not sure signing a petition will make a slight bit of difference to the how the government choose to do things.
