We appear to have filled another thread Shock

Probably just "be"! Also there will probably be some bemused girls there so I can't make it too superhero-centric ifswim, just superhero enough to satisfy the birthday boy.

Greedygirl · 27/09/2012 21:40

Iyswim! Blooming iPad.

stealthsquiggle · 27/09/2012 21:55

girls can be superheroes too (I had to make DD a BatGirl costume for a school thing last year)

We can super-theme some games, I am sure. I will have a proper think when not trying to install printer drivers on my phone

Blatherskite · 27/09/2012 22:00

Cat woman, Supergirl, Wonderwoman, a whole load of X-(wo)men, She-ra - there are loads of female superheroes! Wikipedia has a whole list of them

Capes would be easy to make as an alternative to party bags too.

Greedygirl · 27/09/2012 22:07

Sorry I know girls can be superheroes (in a similar vein, my DS was desperate to be a princess not so long back and looked very pretty in a Sleeping Beauty dress) but I get the impression (could be completely wrong) that the girls he knows are not into the whole superhero vibe. Anyway I hope I get to eat my words!

I have been looking at some different websites and capes seem a great idea and fairly straightforward to make. There are some great ideas for training superhero type games but I get all pink and shouty when trying to organise more than one child so the less emphasis on games the better!

Blatherskite · 27/09/2012 22:23

Stealth and I are just biased as we have dragon mad DD's :)

These look like fun. You could make cake-pop versions maybe?

These cups look fun too

Batman and Superman cutters are quite east to get on Ebay too.

You could have green jelly "Kryptonite"?

Masks for everyone?

DS has this book which has lots of ideas. I'll grab it out of his room tomorrow and have a look through if you like?

Tinkerisdead · 27/09/2012 22:26

Stealth - its plastic bunting but gonna stick the sun emblem on them, i think 12ft was 3.00ish from Partyrama. And dragon - green, unless you're welsh! Then red.

Greedygirl - hellooooo again. Superheroes let me have a think at my 2am boobfeed session. Be back soon!

stealthsquiggle · 27/09/2012 22:35

I shall have a look at bunting, thanks, DW.

I was thinking about green with purple tummy, or vice versa??

OP posts:
Greedygirl · 28/09/2012 06:40

Blathers - thank you, yes please. I wonder how they made that kryptonite. It looks ace.

DW hello again and congratulations on the new addition, how old are they? I am ridiculously broody at the moment so the idea of a 2 o'clock boob feed made me think ahhhhh! ! It is only because my DS has started school.

Well so far I am thinking a vaporise the villains game with silly string (is that a terrible idea? Is it really hard to clean up?) and DH is quite creative so I might get him to make a telephone box! I can see him rolling his eyes already. Capes and masks for everyone, superhero themed food and cake. Red gold and blue balloons. Superman is his favourite.

Off to read about your dragon party.

Tinkerisdead · 28/09/2012 08:41

Morning all. I did look around at 2am but i fell asleep over dd (she's 7 months greedygirl)

Glowsticks make good kryptonite and dirt cheap from pound shop. I think they are a pound Wink

If games aint great then maybe craft tables, could you stick silhoettes over torches/lanterns to make the bat symbol, spiderwebs, telephone box for a photo booth (im obsessed with photobooth opportunities at the moment)

I saw a game last night where you get two teams and some adult sized clothes. Stuff as many balloons as possible into the clothes to beef the person up like a superhero. Points deducted for any popped balloons.

Obstacle race around the superpowers, jumping off boxes decorated like skyscrapers, speed, undercover for invisibility etc.

If your anxious about superhero girls you could make it princess and heroes but i wouldnt be worried about girls getting involved.

stealthsquiggle · 28/09/2012 08:42

ever so slightly OTT approach to Kryptonite making

(or, just make green jelly a bit stronger than normal, slice it into crystal shapes, and maybe scatter with some popping candy or lustre dust)

OP posts:
stealthsquiggle · 28/09/2012 08:51

I like the kryptonite (she calls it green lantern bark) and the superhero marshmallow sticks here

OP posts:
stealthsquiggle · 28/09/2012 08:55

from the same link - I also love her superhero armbands from coffee cup sleeves, and the bubblewrap bursting is genius

OP posts:
Blatherskite · 28/09/2012 11:36

My children adore Cloud Dough (also on that link) Not themed especially but it is a huge hit.

stealthsquiggle · 28/09/2012 17:19

Just did a quick tally on replies - 15 'yes', 1 'no', 1 'maybe' (with a promise to let me know) and 4 no replies, 3 of which I could have predicted. I shall put DD on the case to chase those next week.

OP posts:
Tinkerisdead · 29/09/2012 12:53

Well I'm making good progress on pascal, he is being modelled on bath time baby annabelle. Dh is at golf and usually dd2 is at swimming but because I can't be in the pool and watching dd1 at the poolside, we ain't going. So I thought hmm lazy day, cbeebies and finish the costume. Dh the kind so and so told dd1 I'll take her to the park and get some sweets!!! Does he not realise I spend all week at the park/library/play dates and wanted a relaxing day!!

And yesterday I had tests for clotting disorders. As the woman filled her 4th vial of blood I said "blimey 4, I'll need tea and a biscuit after!" she looked blankly and said "oh no dear I'm taking 10 so make sure you eat as you'll prob feel funny!" 10 vials!!!!!!! And I'd had to fast first! I did feel funny!!

Greedygirl · 29/09/2012 19:48

Thanks for the great ideas everyone. My DS and his friends love glow sticks so I am sure that they can be used for something or other. I don't think I will be doing the science based kryptonite! But green jelly with sparkles is a great idea and cheap and cheerful.

What is a photo booth (besides the obvious)? How do you do one at a kids party?

Tinkerisdead · 29/09/2012 23:08

Photobooth is jusr setting up a backdrop and props and taling photos/printing them out to give as souveniors. Like the woman on the superhero party link - except i'd do it better!! You can usually ger cityscape backdrops at partt suppliers.

stealthsquiggle · 30/09/2012 15:23

Looking forward to seeing Pascal, DW - but not nearly as much a I am looking forward to finishing these bloody bags.

Greedygirl - how old are your superheroes? I was thinking of all sorts of stuff around alter egos (I may have watched The Incredibles a few too many times) but it might be too old for them.

OP posts:
Greedygirl · 02/10/2012 07:22

DW - that sounds cool.

Stealth - mainly 4/5 year olds. First year at school so probably a lot of 4/5 year olds...too many for me to wrangle!

stealthsquiggle · 02/10/2012 07:37

Gah. Just wrote a nice long post and lost it.

I just have to say

I FINISHED THE BAGS

(sorry to shout. As you were. I shall move on to the next thing on the list now. Blathers you need to PM me your address, though)

Greedygirl - I think 4/5 is probably too young for my 2am flights of fancy. I was thinking they could make up their own mild mannered alter egos (and maybe dress up?) and you could do newspaper articles (a la Incredibles) as Thank you letters. I think a cityscape might work better, though - they could stand on a black-covered step stool in front of a cityscape turned sideways and you could rotate the pictures so that they are flying over the city. I don't think they will be too fussy about the minor detail that not all superheroes fly at that age Grin

Tinkerisdead · 02/10/2012 19:13

Bravo stealth that was mo mean feat them bags. How ling to go?

Pascal is almost finished just need to sew the tail on the bum. But he looks angry. I'm trying to work out a way to soften his features. I've veen merrily sewing when twice now a huuuge spider has darted towards me across the floor but ive been too scared to articulate the problem so it comes out as urrrrrrrrr hmmmmmnm urrrrmmmmm its coming at me!!!

Luckily dh is fluent in dw46.

stealthsquiggle · 02/10/2012 19:24

Could you plump up some of his features with some kapok to cheer him up?

Party is 12 days away. Tonight I need to finish putting wings onto former easter dinosaurs, and think about the big tails and wings. I had 2 panics today - one that I never ordered those dragon hand tattoos, and the other about cakes (various - main cake, one for tea on actual birthday, and little ones for school)

OP posts:
Blatherskite · 02/10/2012 20:05

I really need to get on to DD's party stuff as I'm already getting sidetracked with Christmas planning.

The bags look amazing. I can't wait for mine DD's to arrive Grin

12 days is enough to get dragon tattoos isn't it?

Blatherskite · 03/10/2012 13:54

Oh goodness! They're opening a Lakeland in the shopping centre. This is going to bankrupt me.

Wink
