@PhotoDad that sounds pretty awful. I hope you make a full recovery soon.
Congratulations to your ds on all those lovely offers, decisions, decisions.

@crazycrofter The campus at Singleton is equally beautiful and not too far the beach, Bay campus just happens to be right on the beach.

DS will be sitting his 1st ACA exam tomorrow. He doesn't want to go into Finance but it came with his placement and supposed it wont hurt to have it on his CV. He has been having training for few weeks or so. He's really nervous about it as he according to our chat yesterday he did poorly in the mocks, as if that wasn't bad enough the system fired off an email to me which simply said, 'You have Failed'. I'm so glad his mental health has come such a long way and he is much stronger now because once upon a time, it would've triggered OCD in him but i actually managed to get to see the funny side of it and we both laughed.

@NCTDN I'm just recovering from a terrible back and ribs, from sleeping on crumpled sheets (have Fibro) the pain is difficult to describe but feels like I've been kicked in the back by someone wearing Spanish square toe boots (those ones with pointy metal). To be honest it seems I'm always recovering from something, a pulled muscle, a funny neck, a bad headache, aching wrists it goes on. I'm just thankful to God I'm still alive and can laugh.

crazycrofter · 23/01/2025 22:38

Hope Ds’ exam goes ok @shimy! I remember doing those exams! 😩 Dd has her last exam tomorrow.

EwwSprouts · 23/01/2025 22:38

Gosh this thread has had a sudden surge of activity!

@handmademitlove Hope the recovery from surgery is going well.
Best wishes to all others with ailments, chronic conditions and falls down stairs.

@ealingwestmum Your Parisian would be getting some raised eyebrows. I just don't have a face for poker but sometimes it's handy when you don't want to be confrontational!

Loving the tales of open days and offers coming in.
ED friend's daughter went to RHUL for film studies, had a good time, more into student welfare than parties. Five years down the line has a fantastic job and is enjoying the international travel (via a stint working on Clarkson's Amazon programme).

Shimy · 23/01/2025 23:20

@crazycrofter Good luck to your DD with her exams. I think the ACA's are meant to be quite hard, he did a mock today and got 52% passmark is 55%, just hoping for the best.

Oblomov24 · 24/01/2025 08:43

ouch poor Photodad.
Good luck to Shimy ds with that ACA exam.

Seeline · 24/01/2025 08:48

Back in the dark ages when I was applying to uni, I had to go to Royal Holloway for an interview (for geography!!). I'd had no help or advice from school during the whole process, no interview practice etc in those days. I was terrified. Went on the train, by myself and arrived at this amazing place. The buildings were really imposing and I was quite excited to see inside. My interview was in a portacabin in a car park and I never got to see beyond that 😆

ealingwestmum · 24/01/2025 09:30

😂 @Seeline

Delphigirl · 25/01/2025 10:58

Hi everyone - wow I turn my back and there are 100 new messages. I’m sorry I haven’t caught up yet but will settle down with a cup of coffee and catch up.
Not too much news here. DS2 of this cohort is still v happy at Plymouth and seems to be doing well in his course so far as I can ascertain.
DS1 is enjoying living and working in London but already looking for his 2nd job having only been in his 1st job since July. The firm he is in has decided to make a big push to acquire new clients from the “sin-dustries” of defence, tobacco, booze, gambling and oil and he did not sign up for that. So he’s applying for jobs on the other side of the political spectrum.
DD1 is happy and settled and DD4 on her gap year has been working since her return from S America before Christmas, and is heading off next week for 6 weeks in Vietnam and Cambodia. Travelling with a Californian girl she met and became great friends with in Peru! So after next week we will be back to an empty house save the dogs.
dh and I are heading off for 5 days in marrakech early Feb for our anniversary - 28 years 😱- never been to Morocco so really looking forward to it. Bringing a half empty suitcase to bring back those fab Moroccan slippers and the odd bit of earthenware… what else is worth buying?

That all sounds really positive @Delphigirl ! Hope ds1 can find a new job he’s happy with. Enjoy Marrakesh! It’s our 25th in April and we’ve never been on a proper holiday together so we need to plan something.

I was looking forward to a brief time of empty nest after Ds left for New Zealand but dd is STILL here! 🤣 Plus boyfriend this weekend. I thought she was going back tomorrow but it’s now moved to Monday morning… and then she’s back on Thursday for a blood test!

PhotoDad · 30/01/2025 21:12

Good couple of days here, and I'm nearly recovered from my injuries (grumbling shoulder is all that's left). DD got a First for her mini-dissertation, and DS got an offer for Cambridge NatSci.

Aslockton · 30/01/2025 21:14
