@Shimy - I've had it about six weeks and have had physio which hasn't done much. Walking and the gym fine. Sitting and lying excruciating. I am sat at work 3 days and it is just awful. Am on Naproxen Lansoprazole Amitriptyline and Cocodamol so far....see hospital physio next week. Sorry to hear you are a fellow sufferer. This is 1st time for me

Shimy · 27/02/2025 12:10

Oh that sounds so so awful, the thought of having sciatica and having to sit on it as well. It's good that you're able to do some walking; movement is very good for it. There are some specific manipulations for sciatica on youtube to release it. I did one once, and it worked! The gnawing pain went away, although it has come back again its never been as bad as that time.

@crazycrofter they don't give student parking permits unless there are special requirements, but it is possible to park in some of the roads surrounding campus. Some are residents only, but not all. The main campus carpark is available to use, and free 6pm- 6am and a flat £1 at the weekend but to prevent commuter parking it is expensive to park during the day especially during term time.

@Shimy how fantastic!!

I'm not ready to hear about grandchildren yet - far too young in my mind anyway!

DS did his first offer holder day the other day. Got Nottingham soon which I'm still in two minds about. I loved the campus and he loves the course, but getting very mixed messages about the uni generally.

DD has just started her second semester abroad in Austria.
It would be lovely to keep this thread going for a very long time - I know I was late joining it but it of def the best thread on MN Wink

Shimy · 27/02/2025 18:02

Nottingham isn't doing too well with the headlines is it? another Notts Uni student has died through an e-bike collision on campus. This is really going to hurt their numbers again this year. My heart just hurts for these families.

Oblomov24 · 27/02/2025 18:13

I didn't mean grandkids any time soon! I just meant on the thread in 10 years time.

mummyinbeds · 27/02/2025 21:51

@NCTDN what subject is your DS looking at at Nottingham. For what it's worth, DS loves the uni and was eventually well supported by the Student Support team. The law department is huge and it's easy to be invisible but MFL and the year abroad team have a much friendlier feel. DS hasn't really become involved with societies and uni life due to his mh at the start but the sports facilities look amazing.

NCTDN · 27/02/2025 21:54

@mummyinbeds it's for aerospace engineering.

I thought of people on this thread when I heard that news. It's just awful.

EwwSprouts · 28/02/2025 17:15

The Nottingham accident is a tragedy. So sorry for the student, her family and those affected.

@craggyrat Hope the weekend means you can move more and less pain.

@Oblomov24 Glad you cleared that up! I'm a great aunt which sounds like I should don a lacy shawl.

Agree this is the nicest corner of MN. Too invested in everyone's DC to drop off the edge in the summer!

crazycrofter · 28/02/2025 22:57

I’m a great aunt too @EwwSprouts - to 3! But that’s because between us we have 14 nephews and nieces ranging in age from 7 to 36! I don’t anticipate grandchildren for a few years yet! I think @Zebracat is a grandma though??

Shimy · 01/03/2025 15:10

Just thinking out loud, why are we 'great aunts' but not 'grand aunts,' as would be more accurate? does anyone know?

mummyinbeds · 01/03/2025 17:29

Same as great grandma I guess, rather than grand grandma 🤔

ExpensiveDecoration · 01/03/2025 17:38

I can't see us being grandparents for a very long time if at all. Not likely to be great aunt and uncle soon either I don't think, we have 3 nieces between us, all between age 20 and 26 and still living at home or in shared houses. My cousin who is only 18 months older than me has a whole brood of grandchildren, the oldest being 12ish but she married and had her children much much younger than I did.

But 'great grandma', is your grannies mother, whereas great aunt is your grandma's sister, a generation down from great grandma.

Piggywaspushed · 03/03/2025 17:32

DS been accepted on to the Associated Press training course . Hopefully, this is a route to a career.

Oblomov24 · 03/03/2025 18:43

Well done Piggy ds!
Just got back from Belfast, had the best time. Not as good as Delph's Caribbean though!
