hey guys,

I thought I’d start off something light hearted and to hopefully help any new mums out there that may need it/give us all a good laugh.

What’s the craziest thing you did post partum?

I was once so tired I picked DS up from his next to me cot upside down when he woke and only realised when his feet weren’t latching onto my nipple 😂

My third pregnancy,I hadn't known i was pregnant with him until the Monday and had him on the Saturday

First time out,I'd got everyone ready and we set off

Walked round to the bus stop, waited for the bus and as it swung round the corner,I glanced down

Yep,baby wasn't in the sling-he was at home in his bouncer and watching the TV and I was wearing an empty sling

It would have been funny apart from I did it again a week or so later,I left him at the shop,at a bus stop,at nursery and at my parents house (they didn't even notice I'd gone)

I had crushing post natal depression which I don't think helped

Whilst nesting: “need to regrout the bathroom for the baby”

Haha! I had the urge to do this at 6am this morning! (35 weeks pregnant) Luckily I don’t know how to grout!

holidayhelpme123 · 04/09/2025 20:21

At 6 weeks left DD1 with my mum and sister for an hour to go and pick up new car (because decided old car was not safe enough) cried for the entire hour and made my mum put her on the phone to me when I was out.

Haha I'd forgotten until I read this thread, I once tried to breastfeed my baby in his ear and wondered why it wasn't latching on. He was a newborn at the time and still managed to look round at me like wtf you doing... in my defence I haven't had a full night's sleep in about five years

Candlesandmatches · 04/09/2025 20:31

Ironed the muslin vomit cloths. I thought it made me a good Mum 😂

SuperGinger · 04/09/2025 20:31

I went utterly bonkers and hid myself and the children from the au pair for two weeksafter reading a Fay Weldon novel and that was the least if it. I sobbed while topless to a consultant about the risk of fecal incontinence

Hedonism · 04/09/2025 20:35

Ordered some nursing bras, kept a couple and sent a couple back - only I didn't include the returns slip and just anonymously posted 2 bras back. Bye bye, £66 😭

PumpkinSparkleFairy · 04/09/2025 20:52

Carried on breastfeeding through a breast abscess, surgery under general at 6wks pp, and recovery 😂

At one point I pulled down my bra to find pus leaking out - charming!

The recovery was shocking as the dressing needed changing by a nurse every other day - this involved pulling yards of tape out of the hole in my boob, and packing fresh tape in 😂 As painful as it sounds unfortunately! Even the surgeon was shocked I was still feeding DD.

Still breastfeeding at 10mo pp and very glad I kept going, but blimey it was a rough first three months!

SwallowsandAmazonians · 04/09/2025 21:18

Panicked because I couldn't find my baby, until it was pointed out I was breastfeeding him.

Not only did I do this but I ironed bibs too 😵‍💫
I soon came to my senses 😂

In the later stages of pregnancy I kept losing things keys, the kettle & even the house phone.
9 times out of 10 I found them in the fridge.

Hallucinations were fun (no sleep). Then one night making dinner for some reason I poured the pasta down the sink. Scooped it out (luckily the sink was empty), put it back in the pan - then squished fairy liquid all over it. Cried then ordered takeout.

Oh you poor thing!! Did make me chuckle though

ImFineItsAllFine · 04/09/2025 21:30

I reversed into a hedge with 8 week old DC1 in the car then panicked and called 111, despite the fact that I had been going about 1 mile an hour and he showed absolutely no signs of noticing, let alone being hurt.

The 111 lady was very nice about it.

luckysdadsway · 04/09/2025 21:36

Cried to the pharmacist in boots that my phone had been stolen. They checked CCTV and kindly said it hadn't. Walked back to the car and it was on my front seat. I was absolutely certain I'd checked it in boots and left it on the top of my bag.

Mulledjuice · 04/09/2025 21:37

Our bathroom toilet was blocked and for some reason I wouldnt let DP call a plumber to unblock it (what a waste of money, I insisted). I made both of us trudge downstairs to go to the loo (me who'd had a c section, he who was having to pick up the baby at all night wakes and changes for the first 3 weeks because I'd had a c section

Ginlovingmumof4 · 04/09/2025 21:46

Helped my DH lay a new patio. I remember listening out for cars pulling up outside so the midwife didn’t catch me out during her visits! 🤣

Espressoicecream · 04/09/2025 21:53

Agreed to stand as a local councillor- i wouldn't get elected they said. Baby spent first six months of her life sitting on the mayor's lap during meetings 🤣

Espressoicecream · 04/09/2025 21:55

Nesting made me crazy. I bleached every room, made three mega shepards pies and three lasagnes and three pasta bakes in case we ran out of food, cleaned and ironed every item of clothing, even boxers 🤣

Nettleskeins · 04/09/2025 21:56

I decided smell was a very important part of bonding and refused to wash my armpits with soap or use deodorant (I did wash with water though!) so the baby would "recognise me". This was for the first three weeks. Then luckily someone sent me some Chanel soap and I caved in.

AlwaysHopefull89 · 04/09/2025 22:00

Never slept because I was so scared of sleeping at the same time as DH and DD Sad I was watching her all night so the next day I’d be shattered (and exclusively bf)

Smell9696 · 04/09/2025 22:14

Didn't sleep for a full week! Not even 10 minutes here and there, I was terrified of something happening to my baby!

I have no idea how my body did it but I wasn't even the slightest bit tired!

Sassylovesbooks · 04/09/2025 22:24

I don't think I did anything crazy. To be honest my son didn't sleep, I was a walking zombie for over 6 months. Whilst in my 'nesting' period, we were having the foundations built for our conservatory. We had about 3-4 men digging foundations etc, and all I did was bake cakes! These men were served Victoria Sponges, Lemon Drizzle Cake, Cookies, Shortbread, Muffins - I always remember one of the younger ones saying to his mate 'this is the best job we've ever had'! 🤣 I'm sure by the time they'd finished the job, they all had put on several kgs!! 🤣🤣

Panicked because I couldn't find my baby, until it was pointed out I was breastfeeding him.

I did this embarrassingly recently when getting the whole family ready to go out. Each family member rushing in and out of the kitchen/living room trying to find their own shoes, coat etc. I yell at dh, where's ds, I thought he was with you?! Dd helpfully points out I'm holding him. I'm so sleep deprived...

Labamba78 · 04/09/2025 22:26

Slept with the lights on for 3/4 months. I don’t know why! I just felt safer!
