hey guys,

I thought I’d start off something light hearted and to hopefully help any new mums out there that may need it/give us all a good laugh.

What’s the craziest thing you did post partum?

One slightly bonkers thing we did when dd was a baby, like 3mo, was put her to sleep in the pram in the evenings and go out to one of those pub huts every pub had in lockdown. Tbf she refused to sleep at home, but for some reason the combination of cold air plus warm blankets plus noisy revellers plus stale beer smell just kept her asleep. Good times. I'm amazed we managed it looking back now, we could never do that with ds now that dd is primary age. We used to get judgy looks. It was that or sleep training!

I put the last couple of items in my shopping trolley, put everything on the belt, paid for it and took it all home. It wasn’t until I’d unpacked 12 cans dog food that I realised that I’d took someone else’s shopping trolley through the till, paid for it and brought it home.

A strange thing happened. The second day in hospital after giving birth, I went to sit with a couple of ladies and interrupted their conversation, they said they where sharing their dreams which had been quite strange. I laughed and said mine was weird. I dreamed that my new baby was on a shiny mahogany table and she slipped and fell behind the back of a radiator. They both looked at me in amazement. The lady that slept next to me had exactly the same dream.

So many things I have blanked a lot of them out. I went to bed at 7pm every night for the first 6 months as I was so sleep deprived that I was barely awake. Sort of miss my early nights in a way, was like going back to being small and having a bedtime 😂

I left my car key in the car to go get the changing bag I forgot, car automatically locked with baby blissfully unaware of his situation. Me on the other hand was hysterical, running circles around the car like a loon!! Totally forgot I had a spare key 🙈 i did infact break the window to get into the car. Them remembered the spare key ha safe to say i learnt from that mistake that day. Ffs hahahaha xxx

As soon as my baby was out of me, literally before the midwife had even plopped her on my chest, I cried and said "omg I want another" - my husband now laughs at me for this 😅

Dairymilkisminging · 06/09/2025 07:35

Threw my shoe at a bird in a tree. Just gotten ds off to sleep and it started singing loudly. Cue shoe getting stuck and me having to walk home with one shoe on. Tbf ds stayed asleep

Pushed my MIL against the wall on the stairs to get down it

she was pissing me off

charlieandthechocolatfactory · 06/09/2025 07:53

Left the car door wide open in the car park and went shopping

Fluffypotatoe123987 · 06/09/2025 08:18

Cried on a midwife because ex husband hadnt put xmas tree away (he did by the time i got home)

2nd baby i went absolutely mental and i mean mental because ex husband hadnt sterilised the bottles or finished putting shopping away for when we came home. I was so erratic his mum came down in a taxi. Blue days really are awful post baby - 3 days after

Fluffypotatoe123987 · 06/09/2025 08:21

Ive always said for my dds now when they have a baby. Regardless of their situations i will pay for a cleaner to go round to their house and do a deep clean before they come home. Ill ensure all their washing is done and put away and any clothes they had in hospital is brought home before they come home. Clearly you can see i am an acts of service type of person lol

Whereismyjoiedevivre · 06/09/2025 08:35

Thought my newborn PFB would get dehydrated on a ten minute walk from home to a cafe to the point where I was almost running with the pram.

Obviously the last thing I’d done before leaving the house was breastfeed him and he was tucked up cosy and having a lovely sound sleep 🤦🏻‍♀️

Yesterday I left my boot wide open on our drive (on a busy road) and continued about my day. Only did I know what happened when my DP called and asked if I’d purposely left my boot open

I went to a cousins wedding with 3 week old baby boy, had very bad delivery with over an hour of stitching afterwards, had nothing to wear that fit, so wore my DM dress that she wore to my wedding. Day went really well, DS slept the whole evening with disco blaring away. Thinking it was a good idea I danced the whole evening and had a great time. Next day I couldn’t move, pain and started bleeding discharging again, but we had a great time. Craziest thing my DH did was in the middle of the night giving DS a bath as it was easier than cleaning him, DS loved his bath and hated getting out of the water so bath lasted ages, DH didn’t do that again,

Angrymum22 · 06/09/2025 10:30

First time we took DS for a walk in his pram ( all-terrain style) we live rurally so chose a farm track. DH being new to fatherhood was worried about shaking DS too much so carried the pram over the uneven terrain. I did reassure him was ok and my DSis later told him that she used to deliberately wheel her daughters over a local cobbled street because it was great for sending them off to sleep.

Carried baby in a car seat up 4 flights of stairs on day 3 post c-section. Do not recommend!

Thunderpants88 · 06/09/2025 16:21

So so many

(4 under age 6 here)

The one that upset me the most was when I mixed up the washing. I tumbled a load of dirty clothes and rewashed clothes I had already washed and hung up 😭

A massive wee and a huge sigh

Natsku · 06/09/2025 17:05

Walked 5km 10 days pp, pushing the pram, to get to the health centre to get my iron drip. I was very anaemic, in a lot of pain in my legs and pelvis (turned out to be issues with my back, a few months later I was pretty much unable to walk at all), and it was the middle of winter and about -20C outside. I really should have taken a taxi but it just didn't occur to me. I think it took me about two hours, and I had to stop part way through and go in a cafe to breastfeed, the cafe wasn't even open yet but an employee took pity on me and let me in.

And then I walked back again!

umberpigeon · 06/09/2025 17:11

I snuck home in my dressing gown to check on the builders as they were supposed to be finishing the kitchen (c-section, baby in NICU for first couple of days)

once home I spent my time helping the builders finish the kitchen while the plumber looked after the baby. I also drove to IKEA around day 10 with baby to return the wrongly ordered kitchen units. I managed to carry the baby and the flat packs into the store.

did I have a haemorrhage and end up in the back of an ambulance on day 14? Why yes I did!

don’t really have any explanation for it all, nor can anyone else explain why they didn’t help me or insist I stay in bed

GreenLemonade · 06/09/2025 17:19

I forgot to put the teat on the bottle so instead of feeding DS I poured milk all over his head. He didn't even cry, just fell asleep 😂

On a more serious note, I was terrified he would die in his sleep so I refused to sleep while he slept. Me and DH slept in shifts, me from 9pm to 3am and he from 3am to 9am. This went on for months 🙈
