Just wondering!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

We had a night away for my 40th. Otherwise we’ve each been away for the odd weekend break with friends/ work trips but the DC have always been with one of us.

why do you ask OP?

PlantDoctor · 02/09/2024 21:57

My mum has DD maybe once every 3-4 months so we can go out for dinner or something. We would always take DD on holidays. She has been left for a weekend twice over the past couple of years for us to attend adult-only weddings.

DD loves a grandma sleepover, so I wish they were a little more frequent, but appreciate my parents both still work so don't want to eat into their rest and free time.

both dh and I often go away for work.
That means I have left them dozens of times, for a few days each time. But they are left with their dad, and vice verse.

We once were both away (work) at the same time, and a good friend came and house/kid sat for us for 5 days (kids were teens)

As for both of us away for a holiday together and leaving kids, hardly ever.
One weekend on our 10 wedding anniversary.
One weekend 2 years ago.
Maybe once or twice other than that? But really hardly at all.

They have left us plenty of times for camps and going away with friends etc.
But we can never seem to get them to all go away at the same time....

WoahThreeAces · 02/09/2024 22:09

Loads. I go away with friends at least 3 times a year (weekends away) and DH and I try and have a weekend away or at least an overnight away once a year, and have done since our now-21yr old was 6 months 🙂

haveagoharry · 02/09/2024 22:11

Never, at 2.5. DC isn't ready and wouldn't cope well yet.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 02/09/2024 22:13

Well DS went on holiday with PIL for a week this summer, we stayed at home and went to work. Does that count as leaving him?

Also what if only one of us has gone on holiday and he's at home with his other parent, is that leaving him?

Bit of an odd way to phrase it OP. Why not just ask how many times have you been on holiday without your DC since they were born

SmellyNelliey · 02/09/2024 22:14

I've got 4 so don't expect anybody to have them, never had a holiday without them...but this weekend they stayed at there grandads!
Never again will they stay out.

theduchessofspork · 02/09/2024 22:16

Plenty of times. And travel for work, so we are all used to nights apart.

FantasticFox27 · 02/09/2024 22:18

Mine are teenagers. If we are talking more than a night away, I've left them five times. 4 nights in Rome, 2 nights in Seville, 2 nights in Edinburgh, 2 nights for a wedding in this country, 2 nights for a wedding abroad. If we are including one night away breaks then I couldn't count.

StTola · 02/09/2024 22:19

He’s 12. Countless times! For work, leisure etc.

elliejjtiny · 02/09/2024 22:25

Dh and I had a weekend away in 2010. And I tagged along on dh's weekend work trip a few months ago. Only other times I've left them overnight have been when one of the dc have been in hospital (so I've stayed in hospital with one dc and left the others at home with dh) or for a university open day.

MigAndMog · 02/09/2024 22:27

We've had one night away without them ever - they're 11 and 9! Also two nights at home on our own when they were both at sleepovers/camps.

imverynosey · 02/09/2024 22:40

My DD who is now 13 has lived with her dad since aged 7 through mutual arrangement. She comes to ours in the holidays. We have a very close relationship but countless days apart. Which yes has been very difficult!
My DD2 is 6 weeks old and lives with us (me and DP) and has stayed with her nan three nights in total I think or four ...

ludicrouslycapaciousbags · 02/09/2024 22:43

From when she was 4 weeks old.

Now a thriving 19 year old at a RG Uni, who hasn't combust with the fact that her parents had the audacity to still have a life...

IdaClair · 02/09/2024 22:48

At least twice a year every year, started at age 1, minimum 2 nights, maximum 2 weeks, the latter only once. They also go away without me regularly.

This year they have been away without me twice each. I’ve been away without them twice. We’ve been away together twice. Phew!

BlahBlahBaa · 02/09/2024 23:11

DC are 4,2,0. DC1 has done 1 long day with my mum while we were at a wedding, but no overnights without DH or I. There’s absolutely no way I’d dream of going abroad with DH without them, I find it hard enough when the older 2 are a couple of miles away at nursery!

bluebee17 · 02/09/2024 23:14

I haven't the only time she ever been away from me in almost 6 years is when she at school or gone out with my husband for a few hours.

Avie29 · 03/09/2024 00:36

I have 5 My eldest is 14, and in the last 14 years apart from being in hospital having other children me and OH have spent one night away for a friends wedding lol thats it xx

StuckOnTheCeiling · 03/09/2024 00:46

Mine are both under 10. Never had two or more nights away from them. They get 1 night granny sleepovers about every other month.

Actually I have been apart from my older one more than that, two hospital stays, but he was with DH.

RawBloomers · 03/09/2024 00:51

Quite a lot. Starting in their first year. They're now 15. Don't think I could recall every instance, as I never thought of it as a big deal.

pitterpatterrain · 03/09/2024 00:52

Travel regularly for work as a PP mentioned so no idea from that but then they would be with DH

Once when we only had DD1 to attend a wedding overnight - apart from that never mainly because we have no-one willing / able to look after both DC for us

geekygardener · 03/09/2024 01:02

Eldest is 11. I have been away from her once for 3 nights for a family wedding. She has been away on one school residential. Other than those two things never. So twice in 11 years.
Youngest is 6, only the once when I went in the wedding trip mentioned above. That was this year so once in 6 years.

No one to have them. It would be nice to go away with dh for a night but not going to happen.

Edingril · 03/09/2024 01:53

No idea I have lost count, why is there a perfect amount?

Strokethefurrywall · 03/09/2024 02:00

Too many to count. Left DS1 for a bachelorette when he was 3 months, again when he was 13 months to run a marathon in Miami (DH and I both went, left him with my parents) and then numerous times for work as well after DS2 was born.

Whatever you want to do is the right answer.
