9 months old not crawling or even going on hands and knees

Posted this elsewhere but thought I might get more replies here...

My 9 month old daughter is:
Not crawling
Not going on knees
Not pulling to stand
Can't get into sitting position by herself

First baby and v concerned

Can: sit, recently started to pivot, babbles loads, clap, is v happy and loves sitting and playing with her toys

Health visitor not interested...but she seems v behind to me?

Mine was the same. Bum shuffled at 16 months, crawled at 19, finally walked at 21. Never really pulled herself up, hated being held up and asked to try and stand.

Nothing wrong, just taking her time. Nursery made me get HV involved who was pretty relaxed about it same as I was.

I wouldn't be worrying about this.

Still extremely young to be doing any of that. Don't worry

My little one didn’t show any interest in pulling herself up, standing or crawling until after 10 months. Shes now almost 2 and is running around mad! I wouldn’t worry too much at this stage as every child is different and goes at their own pace.

Really wouldn't be worrying, it's not a concern at 9 months.
My son crawled 8.5 months but didn't pull to stand till 10.5 months and didn't walk until 16/17 months. He now runs and climbs everywhere at 2 years old.

My brother didn't crawl or anything, just bum shuffled until he got up and ran one day 😂

She sounds like a perfectly normal 9 month old.

I worried about all this milestone stuff a lot with DC1 (who didn't move till after first birthday but is now fine). Looking back I wish I'd been able to relax and enjoy it all a bit more, it goes so fast.

No need to worry! I have a similar age ds and about to have his hv check.

He can only crawl backwards, pivots, rolls everywhere. He doesn't actually crawl either more of backwards shuffle. But is rocking on hands and knees and can sit unsupported. Pulls to standing if he pulls on our fingers but not independently. Can stand and bounce holding something. Has started bashing his toys together. Knows his name and will look at whoever we ask him to find. Ie) where's mummy?

He doesn't clap, point, only started babbling in the last 4 weeks, pincer grip is still very new as well. Can't pull up on his own, or coast yet, can't pull himself into a sitting position.

I'm absolutely not worried at all. He smiles and engages, follows voices and has started fussing or crying when he wants something. He also my second who was much further advanced with gross motor skills and was walking at 10.5 m.

Babies develop at their own pace. The 9 month check is actually the 9 to 12m check. It's massive range of skills that they will develop during this time. And don't forget your hv has the experience of seeing many, many babies. This doesn't mean things can't get missed but if you were honest during your 9m check. I think baby is just fine and developing at her own pace.

My girl crawled at 12 months, walked at 19 months and now is running about mad at 2 climbing everything! I remember being worried too - she despised tummy time and anything like that but they really do just do everything at their own time!

I’m sure she’s fine. DC1 could easily crawl up the stairs at this age, but DC2 could barely even sit. She couldn’t even bum shuffle until 11 months and didn’t walk on her own until at least 17 months. She was the floppiest baby ever. DC are now 11 and 8 and you couldn’t tell there was ever any difference between them. They all do things in their own time.

Sounds completely normal OP. Are you doing activities to build up her muscles? Tummy time, "walking" her round the house, helping her climb at soft play, toys that encourage her to move?

My DS was like this, didn't crawl until 12 months, was quite happy just sitting there. He's now 11, in grammar school and one of the fastest runners in his class.

Apparently I shuffled on my bum until 16 months and then walked - never crawled.

Sounds normal. DS1 was completely static until he started cruising round the furniture if propped there at 10 months. Didn’t walk independently until 16 months and couldn’t transition between lying/sitting/standing until close to 18 months. Didn’t crawl until approaching 2. He was however pointing by 8 months, speaking words by 10 months and talking in 3-4 words sentences before 2. He’s 3 now and still not the most agile, but completely normal none the less (and still has amazing speech). I think some babies focus on motor development and some focus on social/communication.

My ds wasn't able to sit up on his own until 9 months and then suddenly started crawling, pulling himself to stand and walking whilst holding on in the space of 3 weeks. He was walking g independently at 12 months.

It is still very early to be worrying.

Good grief 9 months is still very little. Mine were both bottom shufflers but didn't start until a bit later than 9 months. Then walked at 18 months (which is the outer limit of "normal", apparently).

But if you are worried, speak to the GP not not hitting other milestones, you can ask for a referral to baby physio therapy.

I agree it’s pretty early to be worried about those things. We were unable to get a physio referral until 18 months. My Dd was marked down for gross motor skills at the 12 month check but that only warranted a follow up phone call a few months later where I was told to call back at 18 months if no progress. She is still not doing any of those things at 20 months but the physio is not sure if there’s anything wrong or if she is just taking her time.

She's well within the realms of development for her age.

One of my twins crawled but her identical twin never did. Crawling twin walked then the next day non crawling twin just got up and walked (like a wobbly drunk). At 12, the non crawler is academically ahead (I don’t think that’s connected to her non crawling).

Sounds normal. Make sure she gets lots of tummy time and try not to worry about it.

My daughter never crawled, just walked at 14 months or so? Runs around non stop now

DS didn't crawl til about 9.5mo (did lots of pivoting like your DD beforehand!) but then started pulling to stand quickly after that and was walking at 11mo. A friend's DS never crawled, he bum shuffled from about 15mo-18mo then finally walked at 19mo.

If you're on instagram, Milestones and Motherhood is really good. She has lots of ideas on helping them to learn to crawl, I followed a few of her tips when DS got a bit stuck army crawling

Thanks all. I do try and encourage tummy time but she is not a fan and usually just rolls out of it.

I did make a thread about 3 months ago where I was worried because she couldn't sit or roll from back to tummy, which seems completely neurotic in retrospect, so I hope in a few months I'll feel the same about this thread.

I've been diagnosed with post natal anxiety and just can't shake off the feeling that something is wrong though!

Huge variation from baby to baby IMO. My DS didn't crawl until 12 months. Didn't walk until 14 months....

Don’t worry. My dd never crawled. She started to bum shuffle instead at 13 months and got very quick whilst doing it. She also never cruised either but on the day she turned 18 months, she stood up and walked across the room. Didn’t stop walking after that
