My ds is 11 months old (10 months corrected) and can’t do most of those things. He has just started to shuffle crawl like army crawl a few days ago. From four weeks ago he can get onto all fours and will rock like the start of crawling but then it’s like he doesn’t know what happens next and gives up going back onto his stomach. I think he will crawl on all fours in the next few months though.

He’s great at sitting if we sit him on the floor but can’t transition from lying to sitting. He can go from sitting to lying though.

He can’t pull himself up. He does like standing now if I stand him up and support him. Then he holds on to me/dh or a sofa. He won’t attempt to take a step yet, he locks his legs in place so they are rigid. He started standing about 4 weeks ago. I think this is the only thing that concerns me, that he doesn’t have an instinct to take a step while being held up? I have even tried leaning him forward and he would just faceplant the floor if I let him rather than taking a step.

I know all babies have their own time. It’s the standing/not stepping which I’m unsure about.

She pushed herself backwards on her belly today for the first time! This counts as progress...right?!

Yes definitely progress. My son started doing that just before he started crawling.

Absolutely! Most go backwards first. Well done to her!

Definitely does!

My first didn’t get into hands and knees until 9.5 months. Crawled 2 days later. Walked 2 weeks later.

My brother didn't crawl or anything, just bum shuffled until he got up and ran one day 😂

It's what my daughter did too. Didn't do much movement on her tum before either, she looked like a stuck walrus most of the time bless her.

PfizerFan · 22/04/2024 06:47

Well we finally have an army crawler - better late than never!!

Mine's the same, her communication skills are excellent (pointing at 8 months, clapping at 7 months , waving in the correct context since five months, saying a couple of words at 9 months) but shows no inclination to move yet. I'm not at all worried! She's clearly focusing on the communication and interaction side of things for now, and will get to the movement side in her own time.

Bells3032 · 22/04/2024 09:31

My daughter crawled at 7 months but then didn't walk til 20 months. Doctor said there was nothing wrong with her she was just so fast she saw no point. then one day she got up and walked off perfectly (towards ice cream).

My best friends daughter didn't crawl til 11 months but was walking securely by just after 12 months.

At 2.5 now you couldn't tell the difference or who walked first. Some kids never crawl. We both worried and stressed about it at the time but honestly kids just develop at different rates. Honestly at 9 months i wouldn't be in the slightest bit worried yet

kisaki333 · 22/04/2024 21:19

My 2.5yo didn't crawl until 11 months and didn't walk until 16-17 months. Don't worry it will come and oh how you will miss the time you could plunk them in one spot and they would still be there 1 min later 😁
Also, a very old experienced paediatrician told me that the late walkers have much better posture later in life. So absolutely do not try to help them walk once they start crawling. Let it come naturally, there is no rush!

Good luck with your little one 😇

Haveli · 22/04/2024 22:06

My daughter never really crawled. She mostly just sat there like a potato until about 10 months when she started doing a one legged army crawl if it was absolutely ESSENTIAL. I worried myself sick (think I posted on here!) but she walked at the very normal age of 13 months and now at 2.5 she is non stop 😀

It's anecdotal but apparently girls are later to get on the move than boys! Certainly has been true for me and a few of my friends children!

GoodnightAdeline · 22/04/2024 22:08

Perhaps on the later end of normal but still normal. If she can’t get herself into a sitting position and isn’t mobile in some way by 11 months then I would call the GP.

Blue2020 · 04/05/2024 13:06

I thought I would update. Ds is now 13 months old and in the last month since he turned one he has made so much progress. Crawls on all fours, pulls himself up, sort of cruising along the settee with the odd few steps, offers us his toys and food, etc. He’s not interested in trying to take steps now he can fully crawl but we are fine with that. There’s plenty of time.

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 04/05/2024 13:12

Your child sounds completely normal. Nothing to worry about.

Readytoevolve · 04/05/2024 13:16

My lady was the same, she didn’t walk until 21 months. If you saw her now you’d see how healthy, capable and vivacious she is.

Don’t worry. Try not to compare to other children the same age.

eliayd · 26/05/2024 23:34

@PfizerFan hows your little one now OP? X

PfizerFan · 27/05/2024 10:23

Is now 11.5 months old and slowly making progress.

Started army crawling about a month ago.

Has started to try to pull to stand on us and take a few steps when we hold her hands last week, and today for the first time she got onto her knees and into a sitting position from lying down by herself!

Still getting regular physio...the physio couldn't find anything "wrong" just thinks she's going at her own pace. So still anxious but hoping it will be ok... Not looking forward to the 12 month review though!

@PfizerFan
My son is 8.5months and isn't crawling or pulling to stand and tries really hard to get up from laying and I think is almost there hopefully by 9months. I'm going to encourage the all 4s movement with him and crawling happens from there usually and getting into sitting from all 4s. There's loads of videos on YouTube

My daughter crawled and pulled to stand by 9months and lay to sit and up on all 4s by 8 months

I'm not sure I'm worried though. Or thinks he needs physio. A lot of parents here have said your little one sounds normal and your physio isn't concerned. If there's nothing wrong with your little one why does he even need it? Won't he just get there in his own sweet time?

PfizerFan · 27/05/2024 10:36

@eliayd the physio said she needed it. She's 11.5 months and only really started making progress recently. The physio was concerned as she wasn't even trying to get up from lying down

OP posts:
eliayd · 27/05/2024 10:46

@PfizerFan
Ah I see. But she's doing it now. Which is great! As long as she gets there all will be good. God willing

How is she with social and language

Mine loves to sit atm lean all the way forward for toys and tries to lunge but falls on his belly and starts rolling around and pivoting

If he could do the all 4s movement then he would lunge forward and sit back which is what I'm waiting for really

Lay to sit is almost there too hopefully

I think crawling and pull to stand come a little after this. They all develop so differently there is a wide range of normal x

PfizerFan · 27/05/2024 10:55

Sounds like he's doing great..mine was nowhere near that at 8.5 months! She only began pivoting just before turning 9 months.

I think she might be behind on social too as she doesn't pass us toys or anything. Communication seems good. Will just have to wait and see. Urgh, so stressful!

OP posts:
eliayd · 27/05/2024 11:03

@PfizerFan
Ah really
Mine only started pivoting at 8months. My daughter did at 7months and some kids do 6 months! Milestones are crazy if you ask me haha

He's been able to sit well since 7 months and has great fine motor I think. Was playing with toys on a play gym from 3 months

Mine babbles and ton and loves some joint attention and responds well to his name. Raises hands to be picked up and says mamamamama. Super cute

My daughter was quicker and faster in the physical milestones when she was a baby no help needed what so ever but didn't do gestures and pointing till much later. Didn't start talking till 18months and now she's a super confident with lots of friends really chatty really social 3.5 year old.

They really all do develop differently x

PfizerFan · 27/05/2024 11:04

Fingers crossed all is well! It's so worrying...
