Family members thinking it’s odd I still contact nap

I have a 5m baby and at night she goes in side cot for her sleep, but during day I struggle to do naps that aren’t contact naps (unless on a walk in sling)

every time family sees me doing this (mainly my mother and mil), they say why can’t you put baby down etc, and you should be putting baby down so you don’t need to be stuck sitting down.

then they encourage me to try putting her down once I’ve got her to sleep, at which point she always wakes up and starts crying!

is contact napping not typical at 5 months? Should I be encouraging baby to do more independent naps?

any advice appreciated!

In the day mine would only sleep on me or in a moving vehicle (buggy but no distractions or a car seat) we basically had to plan our days around that.

All naps were contact, in a sling or in the pram until DS was 8-9 months. It wasn’t until DP took over for SPL that DS would nap independently in the cot. Yes there were lots of times I would have liked to have done my own thing when he was sleeping, but I still loved a contact nap and looking back I miss it. He also didn’t go into his own room until 13 months. All of this was weird to some relatives.

Mine would only contact nap or fall asleep on me and then transfer to cot at night until 4 months often nights I would sleep for an hour or two sitting up with her on me (safely done) before I transferred her as she would wake up , she is 5 months now and I started the clam sleep course with sleep well with Hannah I'm not finished it yet the goal is she self settles to sleep at the end but she sleeps in her cot now being gently rocked with my hand in her side she doesnt like contact naps anymore and didn't really at 4 months as she was getting to big but it was the only way I could get her to sleep .
