Also make sure she drinks lots of water - that's more important than eating in the short term. It will help her poo.

Keep at it OP. My DD was constipated as a baby and became a witholder. She's been on cosmocol for about 4 years now and we found our maintenance dose of 1 a day now works for us but it took us a while to get there.

My DD used to be in pain and then just associated any need to go with pain and then boom, she was walking around the house with bum clenched. Sometimes it was hours. If I was able to pick her up with her legs around my waist and hold her there it would help and she'd eventually go but she was as stiff as a board so that wasn't guaranteed.

She'll now poo on the toilet, despite being potty trained at 2 it took until she was 4.5 for that to happen. Poo goes to Pooland was a good app, I used to sit with her and let her 'blow my hand down' to help her push and finally the promise of a toy worked🙄.

It took a while but she got there and your DD will too. Be consistent. Any missed doses will set you back, it sounds like you're making progress 👍

hi all still goimg with 4 movicol a day still at a thick korma looking yesterday today alot darker and water in it and loads of it but little ome has.loud rumbling belly and a bit of bellyache is this normal? also does anyone worry what this is doing to there stomach? thanks all

OP posts:
muddlingalong42 · 09/06/2023 18:55

Completely normal keep going xx

muddlingalong42 · 09/06/2023 18:56

And it doesn’t interact with the stomach, all it’s doing is adding extra water to the poo (which is why you need to drink lots)

lawMB · 09/06/2023 20:40

thank you she just looks so down wnd upset

Diet is not the solution now but unless you fix the diet, this issue will come back again and again.
She will need movicol for quite a while and even after the impaction is resolved it will take time for the nerves to work properly again. When her guts expands, the nerves sense this expansion and send signal to empty bowels. If her bowel is chronically expanded, there is no signal .
She is 3.5, she can understand that not eating the right food, makes her body malfunction.

I had this EXACT problem when my DS turned 3. The constipated lasted 7 months ish. It was absolute HELL for him. We went to a&e multiple times as well as GP - with barely any help. All they gave was all sorts of laxatives which barely worked. He'd scream in agony till he turned bright red it was SOOO horrific and traumatic!!!! It didnt help that he was a picky eater too and didnt eat enough fibre. What helped in short term were those glycerin suppositories. Then my mum got a spray version abroad which worked better. Prune juice is proven to help but he refused to even smell it. Apart from those laxatives the doctors weren't much help.

Its a huge problem that unfortunately took months to resolve. I found that potty training him during the end of those months of hell worked as he slowly felt more comfortable using the potty in his own time to relieve himself. Ever since hes been potty trained weve had NO issue at all after that.

Hope this helped in any way!!

lawMB · 16/06/2023 19:18

hi all LO is doing much better doctor called today and was told to take down to 1 movicol from 4 she seens to have dome lots of little runny poos today then just now a large amount of thicker stuff is this normal when tryinv to lower the sachets also sayinv she has bellyache before a poop any advise would be really appreciated

OP posts:
endofthelinefinally · 16/06/2023 21:31

I wouldn't go straight from 4 sachets to one. Have you looked at the stool chart on the Poo nurse site? I am pretty sure they recommend a gradual reduction in the amount of movicol. I can't rewatch the video right now, but you can check. I think it sounds too soon tbh bearing in mind that the doctor who did the Xray said it could be months of build up.

lawMB · 17/06/2023 08:34

i agree just really had enough of no help amd.when the actual doctor that dealt with LO tells you this im.now lost she had 1 sachet yesterday and not sure what to do today

OP posts:
endofthelinefinally · 17/06/2023 08:48

Have you called the ERIC helpline?
I am not on FB, but I see lots of recommendations on MN for the movicol mums board on there.
Personally, I think following the Poo Nurses programme is the best because it is very simple and straightforward. Having actual pictures of the stool chart is very helpful.
Lots of small runny poos sounds to me as if the impaction hasn't cleared yet, but you really do need to use the stool chart to work out if the runny poos are due to impaction bypass, or just liquid poo from the movicol. Nobody on here can tell you that.

lawMB · 19/06/2023 17:43

Wishiwasatailor · 22/08/2023 08:06

Call Eric helpline they are very helpful. But if she’s been constipated for a while then she’ll be getting all the poo out. Tummy cramps can be fr the bowel shrinking back down. If all is going well you could try reducing savers down by a quarter every 5-7 days if poos become harder or less than 3 a day then go back up

lawMB · 22/08/2023 09:42

thank you if she has pants on would.only poo twice since on the potty at least 10 a day she has been on 2 sachets a day for a month now worried about nursery etc but think i worry about everything since all.this does anyomes LO wee alot aswell
