What is appropriate baby wedding attire?

DC1 has his first wedding next week. He’s 6mo. Can I get away with his special Duns dungarees with oranges on, or should I get him one of those little rompers that look like fake suits? I was thinking maybe this one from M&S:

www.marksandspencer.com/2pc-cotton-rich-top-and-bottom-outfit-0-3-yrs-/p/clp60578681?extid=ps_ps-gpla_ggl_kw_ch__-UK-_-_baussc&gbraid=0AAAAAD7g6bTaG95i2dRJwVaaoD9LsVosk&gbraid=0AAAAAD7g6bTaG95i2dRJwVaaoD9LsVosk&gclid=CjwKCAiA_vKeBhAdEiwAFb_nrXdql607LXqOOpULgVU06wEDzDxdTeqP5s--EYhzC8KRORG5cKSrtBoCRFgQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

as an aside definitely not this one from Next, the poor baby looks so uncomfortable!

@NerrSnerr it's not just that, I find that you often come out with a family picture from a wedding, and it looks nice if you're all the same level of smartness? Would you go in your bright casual dungarees if your partner was suited and booted?

anon2022anon · 03/02/2023 22:31

It's hurting my ovaries a little bit looking at the baby little bird stuff 😁

snorrrlax · 03/02/2023 22:37

This range of replies is reassuring me! I should clarify that there is absolutely no chance in hell that this friend will be offended by anything the baby wears. She will think the dungarees are delightful, and she will laugh her head off if I put him in a little fake man suit. I might do the fake man suit for the ceremony, and the rompers for the party 😎

Vinted has loads of 'wedding attire' for babies. You don't need to spend a fortune but it's a lovely opportunity to 'dress up' x

anon2022anon · 03/02/2023 22:41

Ha! Love it, the little feather.
Dressing babies and toddlers is one of the unsung delights of having children. Enjoy every minute you can before potty training.

LittleBearPad · 03/02/2023 22:46

Yuck to the mini bow tie outfits but the fruity dungarees are a bit much.

carpool · 03/02/2023 23:02

to the person who said enjoy every minute before potty training - in my experience it's also enjoy every minute before they develop opinions of their own (with my DD about age 4!)

I wouldn’t wear a nappy next to my suited and booted partner either. But babies are held to different standards.

This thread confirms that MN is nuts about weddings. I’m amazed no one has said that the baby mustn’t wear white.

Mylittlesandwich · 04/02/2023 20:17

He's a baby, comfort is more important. I'd go with what you have or if you fancy something plainer this is nice

Why do you think MN is nuts about weddings? No one has suggested anything beyond saying the baby could wear a soft babygro in keeping with what everyone else is wearing.

It’s hardly like people are linking to cravats and baby brogues and top hats.

I've got this for my 1.5 year old for a wedding next month

A polo shirt and some baby trousers or jeans would be fine OP.

Not that romper.

Jeans on a 6 months old. They will
be seriously uncomfortable. I wouldn’t want to nap in jean.

I would go for a baby grow or joggers and a top but not the oranges.

That's cute!

vintagechristmas · 04/02/2023 20:36

I would honestly just put mine in a comfy babygro.

The M&S outfit is much more appropriate than the orange dungarees

Agree!!!
H&m do similar outfits op but a lot cheaper!

spidereggs · 04/02/2023 21:28

Look on Etsy for baby dungarees. Theme them too something bride or groom love. Super soft and easy to change. I can't link but a local lady does this sort of thing, we are all about girls diggers tractors and alpacas

Mammyloveswine · 04/02/2023 21:30

My then 18 month old wore an actual suit to a wedding with waistcoat and tie.. he looked so bloody cute!!

He then vommed all over himself, I was 3 months pregnant, husband forgot the change bag... he ended up wearing a 9-12 month footless superman babygrow.. squeezed into it... he looked hilarious but had a great time 😂🙈🙈🙈

IlonaRN · 04/02/2023 21:41

We went to a wedding when our boy was 12 weeks
He wore this (or the equivalent 7years ago!), which had been a gift, and was perfect for the occasion

@Sucessinthenewyear baby jeans aren't like adult jeans though, are they Hmm

Cuppasoupmonster · 04/02/2023 23:24

I love the M&S outfit myself, very cute/smart

determinedtomakethiswork · 04/02/2023 23:27

The idea of putting a baby in a suit and bowtie just makes me laugh. Not in a good way.

babynoname22 · 04/02/2023 23:36

We are currently at a wedding. My 5 month had worn this. And has been very comfy (and melted a few hearts! Grin)

Those fake bow tie rompers are awful, really
naff. The French knitted outfit IlonaRN posted is what I’d go for. My two had some lovely French knitted rompers that were handed down to us and were very smart yet comfy.
