Ds is very into Julia Donaldson's books and he seems to have his favourite on rotation. There are some I flipping hate reading over and over - some or just too repetitive but he seems to love those! The Smartest Giant is not one I enjoy... I do like Monkey Puzzle though. What are your favourites/least favourites?

No one's mentioned Sugar lump and the unicorn yet, another one for nostalgia like Paper dolls.
Love them!

Cave baby was a slow burner for me, I love it now, but it took a few reads.

Also, don't listen to the CD recordings of the books read by Imelda Staunton, I LOVE Immelda Staunton normally, but I cannot stand the way she reads them!! I'm not a huge fan of James Corden but he was much better as the mouse in the Gruffalo.

@Katy123g I flat refuse to ever make scarf rhyme with giraffe, and for this reason I can't bear The Smartest Giant In Town!

I adore Hospital Dog.

BiscuitLover3678 · 25/07/2022 21:29

I absolutely love stickman and don’t get why people don’t! I find it strangely emotional especially when he is stuck in the snow. I love her writing and this one rhymes well and fast.

Rainallnight · 25/07/2022 21:30

Paper Dolls! 😢😭😢😭😢😭

some of them are bloody irritating. (Says I, who will never write a successful book in my life!)

inacuppa · 25/07/2022 21:30

Read The Magic Paintbrush this eve. I think it’s beautiful.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 25/07/2022 21:36

areallthenameused · 25/07/2022 21:37

Room on the broom (or witch on a stick as it's now know after my DD asked for that).

What was there to get with Charlie cook? Just going through all the books right?

IWasFunBeforeMum · 25/07/2022 21:47

I love some of the lesser known ones like the everywhere bear and the flying bath. Tabby mctat and the ugly five are my least favourites, I used to get away with skipping a few pages but not anymore 😂 scarecrows wedding is another fave.

KerryO87x · 25/07/2022 21:48

Monkey Puzzle, Tiddler & Room on the Broom are the faves in our house ❤️

Tonkerbea · 25/07/2022 21:48

The magic paintbrush is so beautiful, a joy to read aloud.

They definitely don't rhyme if you have an accent north of Birmingham 😂

BergamotMouse · 25/07/2022 21:52

Night monkey day monkey is nice with a lovely rhythm.

Night monkey laughed and said don't be daft ...

Rinatinabina · 25/07/2022 21:54

DD’s current favourite are “zog and the flying doctors” and “scarecrows wedding” both have to be read a few times a day.

I think I must have read “room on the broom” a trillion times, she still likes to dress up as a witch most days. Except she’s a wicked witch.

She’s loved them all so far, I think my favourite is “tiddler”, “snail on the whale” makes me teary (I know, I’m pathetic)

Sallymaria · 25/07/2022 21:54

Day monkey night monkey, Charlie Cook and Flum Flum for me.

Hate the highway rat and the scarecrow one.

Room on the broom, Gruffalo and Zog are just meh to me.

C152 · 25/07/2022 22:20

I got away lightly - I only ever had to read The Gruffalo and Superworm repeatedly, neither of which were too bad. Once my little one got old enough to choose others from the library/school, I had to read a few more, like the Snail & the Whale...I found all the others we had to read pretty dreadful so, fortunately, each was only read a couple of times before being returned.

rosemarysageandthyme · 25/07/2022 22:25

Zog and the other Zog one
