Beans egg and cheese

Is half a tin of beans, 1 scrambled egg and a small handful of grated cheese a good enough dinner for a 10 month old? Followed by half a banana and a big yogurt

@Ohtheaudacity

Half a small tin of (the boring reduced salt and sugar) beans I should have said! I mushed it all up and spoon fed it. He ate about half of it. My DH says that’s a crap meal and he’ll be starving before bed and we should give him something else. I’m glad he’s wrong.
DH has just volunteered to prepare all his meals from now on...

@Im2022

Not even my 8 and 14 year old could eat half a tin of beans…and the banana and yoghurt too? And he’s drinking milk? Way too much food.
A 14 year old who can't manage half a tin of beans? Shock

I know mn threads on eating are usually weird but uless your 14 year old can't eat them because they hate the taste how is that even possible?

Competitive under eating child edition.

Good Lord, are you trying to lay down fat cells? 😂🤦‍♀️

Georgeskitchen · 06/04/2022 17:32

Sounds like a decent meal for a 10 month old. Mine loved stuff like that as babies......and they still do!!

Georgeskitchen · 06/04/2022 17:35

@NatriumChloride

So much unnecessary sanctimony on this thread! Comments like “Where’s the veg?” and people bemoaning salt and sugar in a tin of beans - FGS it’s fine if it’s a small portion and it’s not given to him every single day for every meal. You’re getting one small snapshot here of one meal of OP’s kid. 🙄
It's mumsnet innit....its more or less compulsory 😅🥰
Hugasauras · 06/04/2022 17:37

PMSL at half a tin of beans being a shocking amount for a 14yo Grin Peak Mumsnet.

DD loves beans for tea (she's 3 and can have half a tin of beans to herself!). Hope he enjoys it!

ENoeuf · 06/04/2022 17:40

I’d probably have made a cheese omelette and cut it into strips with the beans just for the mess. Aside from that maybe the yoghurt or the banana?

ShadowPuppets · 06/04/2022 17:41

That’d be a pretty standard tea for DD who is nearly 2. At 10 months she wouldn’t have managed egg AND beans, but we generally go by the rule that she has one ‘proper’ meal a day and then one ‘nursery’ meal a day in addition to breakfast. So today’s lunch was veggie casserole, but dinner is a cheesy omelette. Both followed by fruit!

MrsPnut · 06/04/2022 17:42

That meal is full of protein which will keep your child fuller for longer and it aids cell growth.

My youngest's favourite meal as a small child was beans on toast with cheese on top and she could eat a whole snap pot of beans to herself.

lobsteroll · 06/04/2022 17:42

This thread has given me a good laugh 🤣🤣

I think it's a fine meal - what's your husband worried about? Does he understand cheese and beans are both protein rich foods? I'd tell him to jog on and if he's that concerned he can make dinner tomorrow night.

Lollipop858 · 06/04/2022 17:43

My 13 yr old can eat a whole tin of beans on a jacket potato - she must be abnormal.

Beans on toast is a nutritionally complete meal.

Pyri · 06/04/2022 17:43

@BoobsOnTheMoon

A 14 yr old that can't eat half a tin of beans Grin

How very Mumsnet

It’s really the gift that keeps on giving Grin
lobsteroll · 06/04/2022 17:43

And the eggs! Full of protein

Im2022 · 06/04/2022 17:43

No she can’t eat half a tin of beans aged 14! Half a tin of beans is about over 200g, along with an egg and toast, half a tin is a lot!

And this is half a tin for a 10 month old along with an egg, cheese, banana and yoghurt 🤦‍♀️

But I had my babies a long time ago now, so God knows what people are doing.

Nnique · 06/04/2022 17:45

It’s a well balanced meal, about right and your little one should be fine, the protein will be filling.

Glad to see you’re batting away the batshit comments and taking no notice!

NerrSnerr · 06/04/2022 17:46

Bloody hell it's fine. In the real world children eat a variety of meals. Today mine had the very healthy chilli and rice, made from scratch. All good. Tomorrow they might have a pepperoni pizza from the chilled aisle and some chopped up cucumber for good measure.

Scrambled egg, beans and cheese are absolutely fine and is a perfect meal when the children are older and you need a quick tea before swimming, football etc.

MajorCarolDanvers · 06/04/2022 17:46

That's a great meal and a big one.

ChloeHel · 06/04/2022 17:46

Enjoy every minute of them eating that much! My 18 month DD is currently on food strike and won’t eat anything except bloody toast! 😂

NerrSnerr · 06/04/2022 17:46

@Im2022 RTFT. It was half a 200g tin of beans. The OP has clarified that.

Im2022 · 06/04/2022 17:47

Aw I’m so proud I’m “peak mumsnet” but beans should be an accompaniment to food. You’re not supposed to eat a whole tin of the stuff, it has too many sugars 🤦‍♀️.

But what do I know! I’ll let you get on with it!

This…why are people so bloody nasty? FWIW I think it sounds great . I could only have dreamt of my lot eating so well! My son is now 22 and still doesn’t eat veg …and yes he is very healthy thank you !
Lady0racle · 06/04/2022 17:49

It’s absolutely fine. It’s one meal! Lots of protein too.

Marcipex · 06/04/2022 17:50

It’s absolutely fine.
