Post your woes (or joys) here if you're currently tackling 2 kids under 2 (please say i'm not alone!)

DS1 is super wingey today and driving me batty...the slightest thing and he's whining and crying.

Have managed a 10 min walk with pushchair to get out of house. DS1 watching far too much TV, i haven't brushed my hair and the dog won't stop barking.

I need some gin.

hello to all. typing with one hand so you won't get any capitals. hope everybody is well and nearly ready for christmas. i went to see take that last night, truly magnificent !!

alicet and tinselgirl, i am the same with my girls, i adore them, but i could really scream at them sometimes.

TinselGrrrlWith2Boys · 24/12/2007 08:46

anyone else tackled shopping with both yet for Xmas? We went yesterday- was like a military operation. Packed milk, beaker, snacks and nappies, all dressed and ready to go 10mins early, arrived at shop for opening...they were angels. DS1 was fine for half of the shop, then i let him hold the list and fed him rice cakes for the rest. DS2 slept most of it, although i had warm milk and a dummy at hand incase.

Queues were shocking at tills though. And i saw parents with tantruming kids and thought- there but for the grace of god...poor people!

We took both girls out for last bit of shopping yesterday, and yay!they were both angels too, had a lovely lunch, and for once felt like a {relatively!) together mum. Am off to make chocolate krispie snowballs (as seen on cbeebies), with Muppet Xmas carol on in background. Have a lovely Christmas eve everybody

Chaotica · 24/12/2007 14:40

Have a great christmas everyone (might manage another post today in between frantic preparations, or otherwise in a few days after the rush of visits to relatives).

Even have some vodka to look forward to...

Happy Christmas to everybody. Hope it's not too stressfull !!

alicet · 26/12/2007 19:38

Well happy belated Chrsitmas lasies!

I certainly wasn't brave enough to take both shopping but I am lucky enough to have ds1 in nursery 3 days a week so could avoid it!

We had a lovely day. Ds1 was mostly superbly behaved and watching the excitement as he opened his pressies was truely magical. We have been spreading them out so he doesn't get too overwraught - he still has 3 or 4 left for tomorrow!

Anyway off t have a glass of wine or two and chill with my family (both sets of grandparents up visiting although pils in a hotel so not too manic) - see you soon xxx

alicet · 26/12/2007 19:38

ladies not lasies!!!

Rudolphthehazeyjanedeer · 27/12/2007 11:17

Hope everyone had a great christmas.
Dd1 was so excited, I don't think she could quite believe all the presents, we did the balloons in a big bag thing which was fantastic. Dd2 loved the wrapping paper. We all came down with colds on Boxing day, although dh seems to have man-flu, and had about 4 hours sleep last night. So I am now lying on the sofa, whilst dd1 watches cbeebies (Chris makes a great pantomime dame!)and dd2 plays with a spoon - who needs toys!

rony · 27/12/2007 11:35

hi all, we had a great christmas, very quiet actually. Dh back at work today so everything back to normal.

Dd loved all her presents but was under the impression Father Christmas would be spending the day with us!! so was a bit confused by it all really. also she doesn't understand it's now over and said today "Father Christmas coming soon mummy"!!

Ds bored by his presents in 5 minutes and soon went back to his favourite game of pulling the tree over on top of himself....

what is everyone doing for new years? we can't get a babysitter so it might also be a quiet one!

alicet · 27/12/2007 13:09

We're staying in too rony - going to get some M&S nibbles, some bubbly and chill in front of the fire! Suspect we won't make midnight though - sleep far too much more important these days!! That probably makes me very old and sad but I live in hope that some day in the not too distant future I will manage to stay up again!

lostmarbles · 28/12/2007 16:01

hello, can I join you please? have 20 month old and 4 week old. Only have time to mail as dd1 is at nursery and ds2 is asleep (well it is daylight!)Have started wondering how am I going to manage once dh goes back to work after Xmas and...... what were we thinking?! It does get easier doesn't it?

alicet · 29/12/2007 14:25

Hello and welcome lostmarbles! My 2 are a similar age apart - ds1 is coming up to 23 months and ds2 3 months. Um - does it get easier? For me it got very much harder when I had to manage both on my own for the first time (ds2 was born by csection so I wasn't on my own with him until 7 weeks) even though ds1 is in nursery 3 days a week! We have good days and bad. The good ones everything works timing wise and I love being their mum. The bad days are not so common but pretty horrendous! I am yet to have to cope alone for bath and bed though and I'm dreading it!

My absolutely top tip is to get a decent hands free sling - I have one of these www.hugabub.com/ and it is an absolute godsend - ds2 sleeps in it so I can go out whenever we need to rather than having to get him out of a cot. And because his head fits under the wide shoulder straps I can play with ds1 (can even lift him in and out of his cot - just!!!) and do housey stuff while he is in it which is great.

I think though that while it is very very hard now (nothing prepares you does it?) I hope it will get easier quicker than with a larger age gap as they will be into similar things. Here's hoping anyway!!!

TinselGrrrlWith2Boys · 30/12/2007 07:14

we're staying in too. It's beer, indian snacks and then bed for us. We don't really like New Year anyway, so it suits us.

It beats spending the night with a crowd of amature drinkers, peeing money up the wall on over priced drinks and taxi!

Chaotica · 31/12/2007 10:47

Great christmas here too. And DD loved visiting grandparents and playing with her cousin, she even behaved when the car broke down (thanking my sister who bought sweets for her which kept her quiet!)

No babysitter for us either, so we'll be in.

Last year went to a party at friends who also have kids who let us stay the night, so DD went to bed and we just carried on . We had new year twice -- once at 9pm for those under 3 and again at the proper time. Won't be going out, but we might have new year twice again!

Chaotica · 31/12/2007 16:51

Welcome, Lostmarbles as well. (Good name, btw)

I meant to ask in the last post (but was too busy playing with DD and her christmas toys) -- how do you go about explaining to a toddler about a car breaking down? (Perhaps (I hope) you're all lucky enough not to know.)
After an hour trying to make it into a great adventure in the cold and dark waiting for the AA (with torrential rain and gales for added amusement, but at least we could keep DD and DS inside), I finally realised that 'car hurt' was the closest I could get to helping DD understand what we were doing (and not to moan). Does anyone have a better idea?
(As it happens, DP and I were a bit shaken up as the car had hit something on the motorway -- made me realise that we were so lucky, and had to stay calm or the DCs wouldn't. Could have been a lot worse though.)

Thanks, justabout... I'll keep the naming game in mind (it was a bit dark and rainy at the time, but DD did get to say 'rain', 'dark' and 'lights' a lot -- she doesn't yet know or care the difference between christmas lights and headlights). Realised I need to practise my happy isn't-this-fun face for such occasions.

Chaotica sorry to hear about your little 'adventure' - will remember justabouts tip for the future so thanks!

And happy new year lovely ladies!

Chaotica · 01/01/2008 16:36

Happy new year to all of you ladies . Hope you all had (and have) a good time.

Had champagne, but DS woke up at ten to midnight and decided to scream and shout (he shouts rather than cries ), so it wasn't the calmest new year I ever had (spent 40 minutes of the first hour of 2008 getting him back to sleep -- lets hope the year doesn't continue in this vein). DP let me have a lie in this morning though .

lostmarbles · 01/01/2008 19:54

Happy New Year all and thanks for the welcome . Hope your year has improved already Chaotica!

Alicet - thanks, it's good to know it's not just me. First day on my own tomorrow and I've ambitiously arranged to go out..... only as far as the health centre to have little one weighed but even that seems a bit ambitious at the moment.

alicet · 01/01/2008 21:15

Good luck lostmarbles! You will have some really tough days on your own with them but it does get easier. Someone gave me this fab advice though - to tire out the toddler as much as possible so you get some rest while they sleep . I am on my own with them tomorrow too after nearly 2 weeks of dh and family I am dreading it all over again! Will be thinking of you...

alicet · 01/01/2008 21:17

Oh and dh gets ds1 up and dressed before he goes to work so at least I only have to manage me and ds2 - ds1 is very happy to play with his toys in his room (and around upstairs!) while I do that and ds2 will lie under his mobile for a bit too! So hence we manage to get out before midday!!!
