When do children no longer need vests?

My dd is 3 and still wears vests, however she's outgrown most of them now and I'm wondering whether I need to buy anymore. Is there an age when children stop needing to wear vests?

Well if mine is anything to go by, when they're a tween! I've literally just turned into dusters a vest that was used for 9 years. Kid you not. Massive when first worn; an indecent crop top by the end. I think it was basically the equivalent of a security blanket. Revolting. I wasn't allowed to wash it so had to do so in secret.

I'm nearly 40 and wear summer vests, thermal vests in winter. I sleep in them too.

2beautifulbabs · 13/06/2020 20:28

Both my DCs I stopped with the popper vest when they were both 12 months old and switched to the normal vest for them both they wear them in the winter months just to keep them warm
Warmer months I don't bother putting vests on them my DS is 3 years old and my DD 15 months old

In April.

Drivingdownthe101 · 13/06/2020 20:39

Until they’re not cold without them?
Mine are 6 and 4 and wear them in the coldest winter months for school, no other time.

WotnoPasta · 13/06/2020 20:42

DD wore them until she started wearing crop tops, aged 10. In the end she wore one on P.E. day so she was covered up when changing

lorisparkle · 13/06/2020 20:45

Mine wore them until they started refusing!! Maybe about 6 or 7. I love a vest!!!

17caterpillars1mouse · 13/06/2020 20:45

My 4 year old still does but she's incredibly skinny so gets cold easily

Lovelydovey · 13/06/2020 20:47

My 10 year old wears vests in winter (as do I and DH). My 8 year old runs hot and won’t wear them.

WanderingMilly · 13/06/2020 20:48

Vests?? God gracious, last worn in about 1950 perhaps???!
Mine never wore vests, nor do I. I thought vests went out with the dark ages....

AssangesCat · 13/06/2020 20:49

Ne'er cast a clout till may is out.

I hear it's may blossom, not May the month.

managedmis · 13/06/2020 20:50

It's just an additional layer?

Bourbonbiccy · 13/06/2020 20:58

I use them seasonally/based on weather not based on age.

Obviously the popper ones when toilet training so a few months before 2, for us. But other than that, if it's a bit chilly and he doesn't want a jumper or if it's cold at night I pop a little vest on.

ProperVexed · 13/06/2020 20:58

I'm 53 and have a drawer full of vests so I have a suitable one for every occasion!

Grandmi · 13/06/2020 21:00

Miy children never wore vests .

NoMoreMaths · 13/06/2020 21:12

Not for years - 7 year old.

My daughter always wears a pinafore at school when it's not summer dress weather. So I figure you don't want another layer under that as it's warm in the building.

And then at home she just puts on a jumper etc if a t shirt isn't enough.

BlessedMamma · 13/06/2020 21:35

Thanks all. I mean the ones without the poppers, just a basic vest under their t-shirts. I guess there's no right or wrong. She seems quite happy wearing them and often kicks her covers off at night so I'll stick with them for now.

I always wear a vest. I didn't know it was a developmental milestone! Grin

Oly4 · 13/06/2020 21:38

Normal vests, my kids still
Love them under tops and jumpers in winter, age 8.

SunbathingDragon · 13/06/2020 21:40

I sometimes still wear a vest.

SpeedofaSloth · 13/06/2020 21:41

DS is 11 and still likes to wear one. DD is 7 and overheats in them, so I guess it depends on the child to some extent?

Hoppinggreen · 13/06/2020 21:41

Mine never wore them, which according to MIL was virtually child abuse

Drivingdownthe101 · 13/06/2020 21:42

No one wears them in summer though do they? Mine wear them in winter if they need another layer, but would never wear them under summer clothes.

SamSeabornforPresident · 13/06/2020 21:43

We're in Scotland. A vest is a necessity.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 13/06/2020 21:43

Mine would just wear a t shirt unde a jumper. I had no idea children wore them beyond potty training!!!!
