COME AND CONVERT ME: Pocket nappies

Washersaurus · 14/05/2007 14:32

I have always used shaped nappies and seperate wraps and have to be honest, I am very happy with them

However, I have noticed on other threads that a LOT of people seem to love their pocket nappies (which I have only ever tried a couple of times without much success - lots of leaks etc) and wondered if said pocket nappy lovers would be able to pass on their wisdom....and possibly convert me

You have to get just the right one to suit you - I have found my weenotions to be by far the best.

archiesmummy · 14/05/2007 16:46

Washersaurus, I agree with Flamesparrow on this one. There is a lot of trying and failing involved.
After trying several different (and expensive) pockets we found that we loved Wonderoos.
But I must add that we are still trying Mommy's touch because I really want to love them since they come in the cutest prints....

I recommend buying lots of different ones (maybe 2nd hand) to find the special one for you.

Good Luck!

CarGirl · 14/05/2007 16:48

I tried many diff kinds and gave up - ended up with hemprestos instead! I would stick to 2 piece if you are happy with them as nappy addiction is hard to overcome........

I love my bumhuggers soooo much! BUT they do need booster for a 12 hour stint overnight, cos the integral one is rubbish.

Mumfun · 14/05/2007 16:57

Dont remember anyone ever saying that minkis leak. Have always found them good so would recommend that you try one!

Flamesparrow · 14/05/2007 17:24

Minkis are soooo bulky though.

Washersaurus · 14/05/2007 19:37

It all seems a bit complicated, I think I tried some 2nd hand fuzzi bunz ones before which were pants (excuse the pun). Do you have to buy specific inserts for each type of pocket nappy or does one type fit all???

I think I'm just looking for an excuse to extend my nappy addiction in to new areas

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 14/05/2007 19:45

Most take any - swaddlebees are too narrow though and need the right inserts

archiesmummy · 14/05/2007 19:52

Nappy addiction what's that???

oh god - i sooooooooooo love pockets, i dont get on with swaddlebee pockets and tend to get any that take the same inserts so its not like matching up socks iyswim! You have to find the right one for you - fortunatly i have had success with Happy Heinys, Fuzzi and Drybees - all of which i love. Drybees and Heinys do some lovely prints for summer and are quite slim fitting. Wonderoos are also canny and some retailers are doing 3 for 2 on them at the moment . Following from flame i have a wee notion on route for my personal stocks for my boy and its apparently coming tomorow - yeee ha!!!!!!! Just think of the fun trying them all! Yes im obsessed ...

archiesmummy · 15/05/2007 09:35

Oh no nappyzone, what have you done??

I had never even looked at the Drybees before and I thought I had finally become sensible. I was gonna stick with my favourites, Wonderoos and some Mommy's Touch, coz they are both One Size but now I'm gonna order Drybees just because they look so tempting .
I have fallen off the wagon again....

nappyzone · 15/05/2007 11:55

i have some prints due in any day if you want to google me and preorder - feel free!

Washersaurus · 15/05/2007 21:38

I quite like the idea of a one size pocket nappy as have another baby on the way and those prints are almost irresistable!

DS currently can soak through a diddy diaper with a microfibre insert within a couple of hours - would a pocket nappy offer enough absorbancy, as they rely on just a microfibre insert?? He also suffers with quite explosive poo sometimes (sorry TMI) and the separate wrap is a real saviour - would a pocket be able to cope do you think - are they gussetted?

OP posts:
archiesmummy · 15/05/2007 22:30

I personally don't like the micro fiber inserts much. They are very thick but get soaked quickly I think. I normally use a combination of micro fiber and hemp. There is also bambu which is meant to be even more absorbent...

And as for leaks, again it depends on the baby and the nappy you choose.. We have awful leakage problems with Fuzzi Bunz but most people I know swear by them.

Wonderoos (from Hip Hip Baby are best I think, Wonderworks can sometime leak) are one size and so are Mommy's Touch and Swaddlebees I believe.. But I'm sure there are others out there.
Welcome to pocket nappy obsession

nappyzone · 16/05/2007 12:21

Pockets rock! ha ha - i all excited as my wee notions long necky came this morning so i have enjoyed playing with it! Cost alot but nice to show off but i will be sticking to my heinys and drybees for my main workhorses! I use a combi of hemp and microfibre for long naps and trips out but on whole manage microfibre alone well as long as its a good one as some are a bit lame i find.

tutu100 · 16/05/2007 20:57

I have a wonderoo (the one by Hip Hip baby) it has frills at the leg so I think it will give a better fit and better protection against leaks. However I haven't been able to test this as ds does solid poos now, but looking at the design I think they should cope better than fuzzis. Also the way they can be adjusted to fit all sizes is amazing, although ds's doesn't fit him anymore as i's too short in the body, but I think that it should last till potty training on most kids.

Washersaurus · 17/05/2007 11:02

Am liking the sound of the wonderoo at the minute. Are there any one size pocket nappies that come in lovely prints like the drybees etc?

SoupDragon · 17/05/2007 11:05

I loved my BunGenius but about half of them (7) have been lost through knackered leg elastic or dodgy velcro i nunder a year

Washersaurus · 17/05/2007 11:27

SoupDragon; I hope you have complained??? They might send you some replacements. It is a lot of money to spend to have them give up on you so quickly.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 17/05/2007 11:30

I did complain to where I bought them but nothing. It was apparently my fault for washing them at 60 rather than "warm" . Not that there were any washing instructions.

I need to snip the legs and replace the elastic I guess. Not that I have the time.

nappyzone · 17/05/2007 14:32

washarsaurus - patterneed one size in mommys touch are canny but i aint stocked any as apparently new design waiting to come out so hae been waiting for that to happen. Wonderoos are reliable i find but a bit dull unless you go for hurt your eyes colours - 3 for 2 at the moment though! But im a bit crazy about patterns so anything to me is dull if it aint garish lol!

archiesmummy · 17/05/2007 14:53

Washersaurus, as Nappyzone said, Mommy's Touch come in awsome patterns. They also come in one size AIO (all in one) which is great for when you're out and about.

The only thing is they are a bit difficult to find if you're after something specific and you might have to do some serious net surfing to secure your personal favourite.

Washersaurus · 17/05/2007 22:06

My head is a spin with options now - wish there were more unisex prints in the one size pockets as I don't know if next baby is boy or girl yet.

So do most people agree that hemp are better than microfibre inserts?

OP posts:
archiesmummy · 17/05/2007 22:18

I use both hemp and microterry Wonder Full inserts normally. Micro inserts are great because they soak up the wee so it doesn't leak, but then I use hemp underneath to soak into as they can take so much more..
And there is of course bamboo as well just to confuse you a bit more
