COME AND CONVERT ME: Pocket nappies

I have always used shaped nappies and seperate wraps and have to be honest, I am very happy with them

However, I have noticed on other threads that a LOT of people seem to love their pocket nappies (which I have only ever tried a couple of times without much success - lots of leaks etc) and wondered if said pocket nappy lovers would be able to pass on their wisdom....and possibly convert me

Oh I never buy new nappies if possible - I am purely a 2nd hand nappy user! If I can't find a 2nd hand mommy's touch to try out I will just have to stick with my 2 part nappies and stock up on motherease onesize or similar

hee hee - drybees prints are fab - heiny prints are too but need to be changed more often as unlike solid heinys the material is more like cotton and can leak easier though i havent found this as i just change more often but others users have - anyway drybee prints feel different on the outside and i am not so paranoid - they seem more durable if that makes sense and i aint leaked which is the big plus. Now mommys touch - i have an old one and if my ds was not on the big setting i dont know what i would do as following every diagram i still cannot suss out how you make it smaller! My supplier contacted me a few months ago and said a new design was coming out that made the stuffing of it easier and the newer prints but looking on their wholesale they still no on so maybe they are out in usa but not here so you may have to look further afield for one. The birth to potty wonderoo is a sinch to change the size ocmpared to this but if your into prints (which i sadly am) then wonderoo let me down in this area although they do some fab hurt your eyes colours! . Sorry

flame i looking at minki now - there are different ones - which minki do i need for a 18lb 5 fat boy ? i dont know anything about minkis? what would u stuff it with for night - would a ellas hemp and a gad microfibre do it or do i need to add a plimsole and an old pair of tights lol! ? or should i stick to my original plan of bambineo with fleece lining and rainbow fleece wrap (which one is less likely to have ds waking me up screaming in middle of night???)

Washersaurus · 19/05/2007 22:36

Ooooh my mum lives in florida most of the time maybe I could ask her to track a patterned mommys touch down for me...as a present. I think DS would love a Camo or Construction Truck print one

Flamesparrow · 19/05/2007 22:36

I vary - sometimes I have a load of microfibre, sometimes a kissaluv and some other boosters - I pretty much just chuck anything absorbant in it and go from there.

Mine is a large - has fitted him forever. He's now around the 22lb mark and still loads of room

nappyzone · 19/05/2007 22:39

do you sell them? i just googled minki and the look seriously large - do you need a wrap or is it as a pocket should be? my purse is twitching!

archiesmummy · 19/05/2007 22:41

Washersaurus, the one with elephants is gorgeous I think.

But I must agree with nappyzone about the smaller setting, how on earth do you do it? I tried to make it smaller to try on my nephew (5 weeks), but found myself completely stuck as to how to do it...

And about Minkis, I stuff mine with hemp and microterry Wonderfulls and lots of them

nappyzone · 19/05/2007 22:44

i had mine on my son at something like 3 months and couldnt figure it so went on biggest setting and it was up to his nips! lol! its ok now though - well it has to be!

Flamesparrow · 19/05/2007 22:49

They are huuuuge, hence only ever being used for nights here.

The large has swamped him and still does, but you can boost it soooo well and it'll last forver

Yes I do sell em

nappyzone · 19/05/2007 22:52

i emailing you and then going to bed.....

Flamesparrow · 19/05/2007 22:53

lol ok

danceswithbaby · 19/05/2007 22:55

I had the Mommy's Touch on the medium setting, but it didn't look good. It's much better on an older baby. Bumgenius is a better birth to potty nappy imho (P'tit Dessous isn't bad either, but not the tidiest nappy I've ever seen).

I had three Huggles (Minki) and sold them on unused. Didn't like them at all. Nasty, bulky things. My dd can't sleep with her bum that much higher than her head.

Anyone want to buy an Ella's House Bumhugger?? Very absorbent apparently and pre-washed plenty, but never used. I haven't got enough hands to stop dd undoing the poppers long enough to get the wrap on her. Ah well. Off to classifieds...

Washersaurus · 19/05/2007 22:55

Oh come on, how complicated can it be? . I was just looking for something to streamline my change bag when new baby arrives so I don't have to carry around lots of different sized nappies/wraps.

I am getting worried now that they might be too complicated for DH to work out though

OP posts:
archiesmummy · 19/05/2007 22:59

LOL Washersaurus, you expecting DH to be able to do it or maybe my DH only pretends imcompetence to avoid another duty
Seriously, I'm sure they are not as difficult as they appear to me, and for prints I think they are the best.

Flamesparrow · 19/05/2007 23:04

As long as they are all put together beforehand most nappies are DHable.

I lost track... I had thought we were on pocket minkis (what with the pocket thread ) - not keen on my huggle either.

Washersaurus · 19/05/2007 23:06

I think the prints would actually encourage DH to change more nappies; he was complaining about boring white & unbleached nappies earlier... and he likes a challenge!!

OP posts:
Washersaurus · 19/05/2007 23:07

I just glossed over the whole Minki thing Flame sorry!

OP posts:
archiesmummy · 19/05/2007 23:16

Exactly! That's why I'm buying Drybees Robo Dogs, for DHs sake LOL

Washersaurus · 21/05/2007 19:36

Archiesmummy; just to let you know there are a few adds on thenappylady classifieds for mommys touch pockets at the moment, asking around £7/8 per nappy (I just searched for 'mommy').

I am in the process of buying more motherease onesize for my collection so can't justify another buying more nappies to sample at the moment .

OP posts:
archiesmummy · 21/05/2007 21:59

Washersaurus, thank you for letting me know.

MEOS are good nappies too, just not as addictive as pockets
