COME AND CONVERT ME: Pocket nappies

Washersaurus · 14/05/2007 14:32

I have always used shaped nappies and seperate wraps and have to be honest, I am very happy with them

However, I have noticed on other threads that a LOT of people seem to love their pocket nappies (which I have only ever tried a couple of times without much success - lots of leaks etc) and wondered if said pocket nappy lovers would be able to pass on their wisdom....and possibly convert me

Happy Heinys were my favourite pockets. Gorgeous prints and no leaks as long I changed them every 3hrs.
Bumgenius very good and reliable containment-wise, but I had the same problem as Soupy - velcro that wouldn't stay fastened. I washed mine at 60 as well...
Fuzzibunz always leaked and Swaddlebees leaked even more ime.

danceswithbaby · 18/05/2007 22:27

Pocket nappies are definitely the bollocks. How do you get clothing to fit round a nappy and a wrap??

Never had the leakage issue, but perhaps it is down to the shape of you child and finding the right nappy to suit. Happily, they all seem to suit my dd

Absolute favourite is swaddlebees (old style, micro-terry insert & hemp booster). We also have fuzzi-bunz (great with an ella's house hemp booster), bumgenius, p'tits dessous (the bamboo insert is fantastic), mommy's touch and the odd magic-alls for the last hour before bed. Did someone mention nappy addiction......?

nappyzone · 18/05/2007 22:47

mmm magic alls - i have lots of the in stock and was contempleting giving them a run out for my boy - is that all i could expect an hour? Yes pockets do rock i agree! To be fair though i have tried 2 part systems and some are as slim and longer lasting in some combinations but some are horifically not! Yey for funky pockets! (yes im on the friday night juice!)

I stopped stocking magicalls because they were just too unreliable. Sometimes mine lasts fine, then other times one big wee and he's got a soaked vest n socks

nappyzone · 18/05/2007 23:21

nice!

archiesmummy · 18/05/2007 23:45

nappyzone, since you seem to be a bit of an Drybees expert, have you ever tried their AIOs???

And have to agree with flame about Magic Alls, sometime they leak just after putting them on almost. I have now just got rid of my last one, but they were what got me into this nappy addiction in the first place so can't be too upset about it

nappyzone · 19/05/2007 12:59

I have not tried the drybee all in ones as i dont see the point of all in ones when the same maker does pockets - well i do iyswim but quick drying means alot to me and its no hassle with pockets - you get the best of both worlds and i just thing they will take forever to dry - i was temted to order some in as the patterns are nice but then so are the pockets. I have a friend who uses all in ones and she changes often and likes them but i know that she has had wiffy issues which puts me of all in ones - at least the air properly gets to my pocket inserts. If anyone else has all in one success stories i would be interested to hear as i suppose i should stock what other people want too as wel as what i love which is really hard to do when your in the nappy business and have an addiction and a son with a cute bum! I have babbled there i know!

SoupDragon · 19/05/2007 13:07

I lost another BumGenius to dodgey leg elastic yesterday. Sob!

archiesmummy · 19/05/2007 13:58

Yes nappyzone, pockets are great.

AIOs I do like but every time I do try some new ones there is always some issue or other with them, normally not very long lasting/absorbant or too bulky .

Actually, thinking about it, AIOs work on the principle that all babies are alike , but with pockets you can add the boosting required for your very unique little bab.

So I have to say what has been said before: pockets rock..

SoupDragon, sorry to hear about your bumgenius

nappyzone · 19/05/2007 16:12

of course they do and the madder the better! Soupy was it the mark 2 bumgenius?

SoupDragon · 19/05/2007 17:10

No, Mk1

zazas · 19/05/2007 17:18

Jumping on this thread here as I need help with my swaddlebees! Have just bought 2 for my 4 week old baby - first of all I put them on back to front but I think I have got it right now - label at back? Anyway she wore it and peed straight out the side? I did notice that the leg opening only have one circle of elastic around it - not two like my wraps so I though it might leak. Is that normal or have I done something wrong. I have the hemp inserts and also find them tricky to get in - my DP couldn't with his big hands! Finally they seemed to be wet on the outside too - I don't need a wrap as well do I. Seriously everything else to do with having a baby is easy compared to me getting my head around real nappies!! Thanks for any help

Flamesparrow · 19/05/2007 17:45

Is it soft and fluffy swaddlebees or like a wrap fabric?

They are very slim fitting hence the inserts being hard to get in. I found I needed it done up very snugly, but it looks tighter than it is iyswim.

The label is at the back, yes

zazas · 19/05/2007 18:42

it is a wrap fabric - not soft and fluffy! maybe i didn't do it up tight enough???? ike the idea of pocket nappies - any others i should add to my range?? sorry this is a mess - one hand typing and my left!

Flamesparrow · 19/05/2007 18:57

Def the pocket then (they have a weird pocket thing that needs a wrap too, hence the question). It might need being tighter.

I'm loving fuzzis right now

nappyzone · 19/05/2007 19:18

zazas you got to try a happy heiny! the small ones are cutey. oh here i go again.... aplix fastening, lovely prints in drybees and heinys which are both a similar design. I get away with the swaddlebees aplix with fleece lining but have had trouble with ov lined pocket swaddlebees though i think im starting to get there with them now theyve been through the washer tons and tumbled. Wee notions are lovely but i bought one for my personal stocks (not for resale) and its so nice i havent tried it on him yet coz i like to look at it (how sad!!). Good ol wonderoos are reliable too.. Feel free to google me as im something of a pocket gal.

I find stuffing pockets somewhat theraputic until it comes to a swaddlebee then i get my 4 yr old with tiny hands to do it! I sometimes think i should be locked away!

nappyzone · 19/05/2007 19:21

i really want to try a pocket with a combination of anything for a night instead of a 2 part system - anyone any success in this area? or is a 2 parter genreally considered the safe bet for a night - im still to much of a wuss to try in case i miss some sleep! .

Flamesparrow · 19/05/2007 19:40

Get a minki - they are huge, but you can really stuff them full.

I can't believe I forgot weenotions (after ordering you to get one!!)... love em

danceswithbaby · 19/05/2007 19:48

P'tit Dessous are good for night-time. They are really wide around the crotch for loads of stuffing. A couple of their bamboo inserts folded usually does the trick, but there's room for lots more. The fleece is lovely too

Washersaurus · 19/05/2007 21:21

Right, I think I am going to track down a Mommys touch onesize to try out to start with - is there anything I need to bear in mind if buying them 2nd hand (i.e. new versions etc)??

Does everyone agree that microfibre plus hemp inserts work best?...any verdicts on the bamboo inserts?

Sorry about all the questions

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 19/05/2007 21:43

Don't think there are new versions... I love bamboo boosters the most

danceswithbaby · 19/05/2007 21:46

I've got a few Mommy's Touch I use a Wonder-fulls micro-terry insert for daytime, which is great. I did use it overnight a couple of times, but it was a while ago and my dd always feeds A LOT at night. It leaked, but not as badly as I'd expected. Can't remember what I stuffed it with though.

As I keep on saying, the P'tit Dessous bamboo inserts are the bollocks, but I haven't tried one in the Mommy's Touch.

You guys have got me looking at Drybees now, which I haven't come across before. Please tell me what's so good about them and talk me out of buying yet another nappy I don't really need....

archiesmummy · 19/05/2007 21:58

Washersaurus, let me know if/where you find 2nd hand Mommy's Touch as I've looked everywhere... and have had to buy brand new ones and they are a bit pricy...

danceswithbaby, me too, I had to order a Drybees pocket just to try. I blame nappyzone for this altogether

Night time nappy, let me just recommend Minki Huggles. Very big and lots of room for boosters and inserts. The only nappy not to leak for us apart from disposables .
But warning, gives baby massive bum and not just cute little nappy bum anymore

nachomama · 19/05/2007 21:58

oh bugger- i HAD decided NOT to start arsing around again (pardon the pun) with different nappies again, as I am quite happy with our set of fuzzi bunz after experimenting with at least a dozen different types of nappy. but now, "mommy's touch", "drybees", "p'tit dessous"- i have yet to try these! damn this nappy buying compulsion.

btw- fuzzis have worked great for us, but now that DS is getting taller and slimmer, they don't hug his bum as well as they used to when he was a wee chubster. i didn't get on with the minkis. i have magic-alls and a happy heiney's but we use a wrap over the top of these as there is always an inevitable leak.

archiesmummy · 19/05/2007 22:01

Oh nachomama, this is just how I feel. Was very happy with my set of Wonderoos and then I got introduced to Mommy's Touch and now to Drybees.
Not fair on my wallet
