I've dropped my baby onto the hardfloor face first.

I am traumatized. She's acting normal & only cried once but I am taking her to the hospital now to have her checked. I feel so stupid I can't stop crying, she fell of the sofa quite a far distance. I'm such a bad mum

Bless you, calm down as you are not a bad Mum. It's an accident that's all and accidents happen. We can all look back at accidents.

If it makes you feel any better my DS (now 14) fell off the sofa at 8 weeks old ....and even better...I was a health visitor so should have known better than to turn my back on him while I put the phone back on the shelf. He was fine and at age 14 is a back chatting little oik!

Hope your baby is fine...sounds like she is from what you've said. Don't beat yourself up, you are human and accidents happen. The local hospital will have seen it all before and will see many more babies in the future with the same history.

Don't worry, it has happened many times before.
My oldest daughter rolled off my friend's double bed and hit her head on a metal waste paper basket. She's now 20 and is absolutely fine.

In fact I fell out of a first storey window when I was 2, I had a fractured skull but no other problems.

I am in tears. She cried at first but that was it, I'm corncermed as she face first. I feel awful I can't stop crying she's in buggy and she's okay

Calm down. You didn't mean to. Loads of posters will come on now and tell you similar things have happened to them - I know mine all rolled off the sofa at some point.

Glad you're taking her to get checked though. How old is she?

My son was 3 months old and in a drop sided cot in hospital, with the side down. The consultant was lecturing the student teachers on how you need to have the sides up but because this baby is only 3 months he can't roll. He (child not consultant promptly rolled over and fell out!)

She will be okay

It happens to all of us especially with first babies when you aren't sure when they are going to roll etc. Babies are very squishy and bendy, she won't have done any lasting damage. My DD did the same at about 3 months old, I know it's devastating :(

Look don't worry it happens, they are really hardy when they are young and bouncy.
i once hit a rock while walking fast with my pram and Simon flew out of the pram and smacked down onto the pavement. I was horrified!
He's 34 now and has a degree so I didn't give him brain damage.
Get baby checked out then forgive yourself xxxxx

You aren't a bad Mum at all. Accidents are called accidents because they are accidental! I lifted my DD (then 6 months) out of a baby carrier on my chest and smacked her head on the ceiling (holiday cottage, very low ceilings) and was distraught, went to the Drs and all was well, though he thought I was bonkers as I couldn't stop crying/thinking Social Services would become involved. I imagine you are in shock so get a cup of sweet tea at the hospital and try to chill out. It honestly gets easier dealing with accidents especially once they go through the Falling On Their Face every 2 Minutes phase

You aren't a bad mum! There are mums out there who wouldn't bother taking their baby to be checked out even if they were bleeding or unresponsibe. You are doing the responsible thing in getting her checked out; that makes you a good mum. You're doing absolutely the right thing for her! No-one will think you're a bad mum.

I think DD was four months old when she toppled forwards off a sofa and faceplanted the floor! These kids keep you on your toes and as barefoot says, there is a definite Falling On Their Face Every 2 Minutes phase, where it gets so much easier to take a deep breath and remember that these things happen.

Please don't beat yourself up

I am in the hospital. Look absolutely bonkers as I rushed and left without a coat, have tears running down my face. Just can't stop thinking the worst, she's playing with my bag in her buggy, she's tired as it's been an early one but don't want to let her sleep, she hasn't had no other symptoms after from being a bit quiet on the way here, I think that could of been because she was in her buggy so the motion was making her tired. Gonna give her some milk

Everyone drops the baby once. Or let's them roll if the sofa.

It's why they're so squishy to deal with parenting fuckups. You're not a bad mum, you're a completely normal one.

Actually I think I dropped one of mine down the stairs. Seriously they're designed to withstand parental stupidity. Fascinating well engineered little blobs babies are.

Oh if you're a bit tetchy about dropping her again you might speak to a local sling library. I face planted once and dd was saved by the fact that she was in her sling and I could use both hands to break our fall.

You are not a bad mum and babies are pretty robust. Just wait until they start toddling they fall over all the time!

It's happened with my first two children and will probably happen again with my third (six weeks old so time yet!). Apparently I don't learn

With my middle child, I was carrying her in a sling when she was a newborn and I was chasing my son (in an attempt to be fun mummy again) and I tripped and fell. I put my hands out to stop myself from crushing her but her bounced back up and into my teeth, and she still has a dent in her forehead at two and a half now.

It happens, we've all done it - or similar. Babies are also remarkably resilient. Try not to worry.

Oh and just wait till you've carried one sleeping and thwacked their head on the door frame. Or realised you've arrived safely to your destination and that the car seat wasn't buckled properly.

I let Ds2 fall out of his buggy because I was rushing, to leave the park, with a crying ds1, and forgot to strap him in. He fell head first onto tarmac and had a huge bump and graze.
I felt awful.
Don't worry. It will be fine.

When DS was about 9 months old we let him shove himself off the kitchen work surface in his bumbo. He hit the back of his head on the floor- he went floppy and unresponsive and we literally thought we'd killed him.

However, by the time we got him to children's A&E he was very cheerful and most pleased to see The Hoobs on the monitor. DH and I, on the other hand were both in streams of tears and clearly in complete panic. The triage nurse looked at us like this and said 'is this your first child??'.

Lucking they are hardy enough to survive a bit of inept parenting.

Thank you everyone for helping me to keep my nerves at bay. I feel awful, can't believe I wasn't more careful, she's watching Telly rubies now talking to the baby on the tv. I feel so guilty

You didn't drop her! She fell off the sofa like many children before her have.

I'm sure she's ok and I hope hospital can reassure you.

If you've got to 6 months without having done something like this already, you're doing fine :)

I don't think any of my 3 haven't rolled off something or been dropped or something similar so even so called "experienced" parents do it!
