I am traumatized. She's acting normal & only cried once but I am taking her to the hospital now to have her checked. I feel so stupid I can't stop crying, she fell of the sofa quite a far distance. I'm such a bad mum

This thread is like the mumsnet equivalent of funny cat videos !!

Dearohdeer got me with the 3 legged highchair story Grin

Desmondo2016 · 27/05/2017 22:15

Oh and I've not dropped a baby but I did snip the top of her finger off with nail scissors ...

Blossomdeary · 27/05/2017 22:25

I would be here a long time if I were to relate all the times my DC have come a cropper, starting with baby rolling of bed (while I was watching Wimbledon!), landing with a thump on the floor - she was winded and did not take a breath for what seemed an eternity! I also once dislocated my DD's elbow whilst swinging her around by the hands - gulp!

Oh lord - I too did that with nail scissors when one of them was only a few days old - it grew back!!! Phew!

My friend and her DH went for a stroll in the woods with their almost one year old strapped on the DHs back in a backpack thingy. They'd not strapped it up right. He tripped over a tree root, fell forwards landing on his face and the poor DC shot out over his head like a canon out of a rocket. Luckily woodlands floors are just as spongy as babies. She's about 12 now and full of attitude!!

Oh Christ... georgie that has absolutely creased me 😂

LadyFlumpalot · 27/05/2017 22:43

My mum stuck my face into a cactus when I was a newborn.

Funny now! Not so much when I had to tell DH I had bit the baby Shock

He stood there and said "....right....I'm sorry did you say BIT?"

Another parent here whose child rolled off the bed. Also managed to knock him over when he came running to greet me after I'd been away for the weekend. And put him in a washing basket to take his picture.... he promptly toppled it over and bumped his head. Hope you are OK, OP Flowers

Sashasays · 28/05/2017 02:33

I am okay Vim. She's is absolutely fine. Weirdly I do feel a little bit traumatized by the shock of it. I can't stop thinking what could of happened if she happen to fall a different way. I even dreamt about it last night, I'm trying to keep my eyes on her at all times to avoid it happen again as it really did scare me. Seeing your fall on the floor face down is quite upsetting, I know I sound silly as it's something quite minor and she was fine

When my Dd was 6 weeks old I fell asleep breastfeeding and she rolled off me onto a hard wooden floor. Like you, I rushed her to A&E, she was fine but I felt awful for ages. It wasn't as bad as when she was toddling and I stepped over a fence and kicked her in the face though. Blush

Vanillaradio · 28/05/2017 16:38

Well ds' first a and e visit was on his 2nd birthday. He was running down a hill, tripped and headbutted a wall and bled everywhere! He was absolutely fine but has a little scar on his forehead 18 months later (weirdly I have one too after falling over at a similar age!)
There was however a very scary incident when aged 9 months he managed to pull down the ironing board stacked against the wall which narrowly missed him..........he had only just learned to crawl and had no idea he could move that far or that fast! Ironing board is still always immediately put away where he can't touch it!
You are a good mum op. With small children this stuff happens. Take care of yourself.

edwardcullensotherwoman · 28/05/2017 16:58

I'm glad she's ok and you've been reassured, please try not to beat yourself up about it. I have 4, youngest is almost 1 and he fell off my bed head first last week! Each one of them has fallen off both sofa and bed - none of us are perfect and we all occasionally do something that in hindsight was a bit silly (like leaving an 11 month old on the bed to put something on the landing!) she won't even remember it Smile

Hidingtonothing · 28/05/2017 17:10

DD fell off the bed when she was a few months old, DH and DSS also managed to cause the elbow clicking out of place thing (very common, receptionist at A&E knew instantly what was wrong when I tearily presented at the desk convinced her arm was broken Blush) by swinging her between them while out shopping when she was first walking. Glad your DD is ok OP, they really are more robust than we give them credit for Flowers

Adarajames · 29/05/2017 01:13

Ive not damaged one as a baby, but on my first texting practice with little ones, having given a lecture bout being careful where you out the rounders bat and making sure no one is behind you, I then swung bat back without looking and cluncked one of the kids right in the face! And it was a sweet kid too!! Mortified!
Glad like is good now op, being over tired makes anxiety worse, try to be gentle on yourself and get some sleep if you can get someone to keep an eye on the little one for you for an hr or 2 Flowers

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 29/05/2017 01:19

All 3 of mine have rolled off a bed/sofa. And I've also cut the nails too short on dd1. It happens. They've all survived with no issues!

Just read most of this thread . I dropped my 1 year old on the hard floor on the underground station. She slid off a sling head down face down . She seems fine straight away after crying for maybe 5 mins , not sure I was in a such shock that I do not think I picked her right away . I was transferring her from a pram to a sling whilst she was asleep . Spent 4 hours at A&E all is good . My DD is fine I am still having nightmares of seeing her on the floor face down crying in her white soft jacket . After reading all the stories I decided I would like to take a first aid course . Could anyone recommend a good one ? I read not all of them are so good when I was looking into it during pregnancy . Thank you . I feel for all mothers as guilt is unbearable at times ;(

Oh my god. My baby is a little over 3 mos and it was such a nice night out I decided to take her out for a little walk in the park right next to where I live and she was in her car seat not buckled in, and I walked her around and pushed the car seat handle back so she can see better and everything was fine, well I get back to my house and proceeded to take the car seat out of the stroller and set it on the ground and as soon as I did that I felt like the handle wasn't right and that's when my 3 month old tumbled over onto the sidewalk face first. I picked her up as fast as I could and we both immediately started crying. She took a bottle after that and made it thru the night okay and woke up with smiles and red scratches on her nose, she has been okay all day but the image of my baby lying on the sidewalk face first will never leave my mind.. but she is okay

When I was one I had learned to throw but not catch. I found a large ish stone. Threw it up and watched it fall down. On my head. My dad was a little bit too far away to stop it. Cue a split head. I was fine.
