Following on from Xenia saying she spends 2 hours a day with her kids..............................................

I just want wanted to say how much I love spending time with my boys, how I adore them, how they drive me nuts sometimes and I can't wait till bedtime BUT......................

I can honestly say 2 hours only a day with them would feel like a slow death to me, that would be like torture and I can't imagine anything worse.

Not that my feelings matter a jot, just felt the need to write that down.

I'm with you!

bobsyouruncle · 15/03/2007 16:18

Actually thats put some perspective on things for me too, I spend too much time moaning about needing child free time. I do, but that much child free time would be unbearable. Thanks I feel better now!

ssd · 15/03/2007 16:21

not trying to sound like the best mum or anything, but can't imagine only 2 hours, xenia says that also on weekends and holidays. we only go to the beach for holidays but have great fun and long days playing cricket on the beach, eating chips and scraps - yum- and collecting dead smelly crabs!

I know she doesn't see it and couldn't care less, but God it seems she's missing the whole point of kids and the best bits.

Interested in this thread?

Then you might like threads about these subjects:

LucyJones · 15/03/2007 16:23

Is that because she works full time and only sees them in the morning and b4 bed?

WelshBoris · 15/03/2007 16:23

Nice.

Starting a whole thread criticising another Mumsnetters parenting choices.
Really fits in the with the MN philophsy

Blu · 15/03/2007 16:24

So, on a school day, when maybe your child has an after-school club, or plays with a friend, how much time do you spend with your kids?

I think starting threads about individual posters is really nasty, actually.

CantSlimWontSlim · 15/03/2007 16:24

Isn't the whole point of kids so that you have someone to look after you when you're old then?

kittylette · 15/03/2007 16:25

I'd like maybe 2 hours a day WITHOUT THEM - but id hate to only have them for 2 hours

it would be awful

ssd · 15/03/2007 16:26

oh for Christs sake I'm not condeming Xenia, just saying I couldn't do what she does, simple as that.

get off your high horses!!

CantSlimWontSlim · 15/03/2007 16:26

I didn't read this thread so much as a criticism of Xenia, but more as a celebration of our choice to spend time with our children.

bundle · 15/03/2007 16:26

on the 3 days a week I work, I probably only spend a bit more than that with my 2. and I don't feel tortured. or that I'm having a slow death. quite the contrary.

Soapbox · 15/03/2007 16:27

Very nasty!

Just remember that Xenia chooses to live like this - there are many posters who don't have a choice and this will be a slap in the face for them.

LucyJones · 15/03/2007 16:28

I take it some of the posters on here don't work then?
Can't you respect other people's lifestyle choices? Although they might not have the choice not to work...

ssd · 15/03/2007 16:28

and WB, don't go quoting me the MN philosophy!!I've been posting here longer than you've been a mum, so save it.

OP posts:
kittylette · 15/03/2007 16:28

yes bundle - but you have 4 other whole days with them,

not 2 hours everyday inc weekends

hunkermunker · 15/03/2007 16:29

I get less than that some days.

ssd · 15/03/2007 16:29

God, there's so many people here getting their backs up with this thread.

not critizising Xenia ok girls??

OP posts:
sweetkitty · 15/03/2007 16:30

I think Xenia would say she would rather chop off her own hands than be a SAHM, I on the other hand would hate someone else looking after my DC. But that's the point we are all so different, no one is right, as long as YOU are happy with your choice and don't feel the need to belittle SAHMs/WOHMs etc then great. We all do what we feel is right for our children sod what anyone else thinks.

I'm with you kittylette I would love 2 hours child free time on a Friday afternoon.

kittylette · 15/03/2007 16:30

i say each to their own

if it works for her, then good for her

would be interested to hear how her kids feel about only seeing mummy 2 hours a day though

NotanOtter · 15/03/2007 16:30

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Try being me - i have been penned in with a Scarlet fever child and a one year old for 8 days now and i said to dp 'feels like 8 years'

Marina · 15/03/2007 16:30

I agree with soapy and blu.
A lot of us don't have the choice to make.

LucyJones · 15/03/2007 16:30

Kittylette - Maybe at weekends they want to be out all day - I don' know how old they are but from the age of 12 onwards I was out with my mates all w/ends

Blu · 15/03/2007 16:31

LOL Hunker.

"would be interested to hear how her kids feel about only seeing mummy 2 hours a day"

so this is not a judgemental thread at all then is it?
