Following on from Xenia saying she spends 2 hours a day with her kids..............................................

I just want wanted to say how much I love spending time with my boys, how I adore them, how they drive me nuts sometimes and I can't wait till bedtime BUT......................

I can honestly say 2 hours only a day with them would feel like a slow death to me, that would be like torture and I can't imagine anything worse.

Not that my feelings matter a jot, just felt the need to write that down.

VVV Can this

Agree that not every waking hour of a SAHM is spent 'doing' things with the children. I think it is a bit disingenuous to suggest that this is the case. If we ALL sat with a stopwatch and timed the one to one interaction - I suspect it wouldnt vary that much at all between SAHM and WOHM.

be the quote of the week, considering all the sahm vs wm going on today - think its a very good point

Ladymuck · 15/03/2007 17:03

Yuo have some napper there then Blu. I'm sure I used to be only able to MN when they were napping, but it gets easier as they get older.

TwirlyN · 15/03/2007 17:03

so i'm wasting my time at college re-training am I?. or should I knock my little 3 hour a week job on the head, because the future dosn't sound very positive. Sod it maybe i'll be a SAHM until DC leave school.

oh MY GOD.

  • ssd - I only spend about 2 hours a day with my kids too, well on the days I work I do. An hour int he morning and maybe an hour in the evening. Pefect, suits me fine! I get a lot more with them on the 4 days a week I don't work and sometimes really look forard to going back to work and always really enjoy 7.05pm each evening when they are in bed.

So, each to their own. Iadore my girls too btw. Just felt the need to write that down.

Flamesparrow · 15/03/2007 17:04

I think I will post this in Wanted:

Wanted: part time job in my chosen career, hours 9.30am to 2.30pm , must come with free creche places, salary must refect my skills set and be in proportion to my full time colleagues as must workload, I must also not feel like a leper for having to take time off for ill children. Must also be 20 minutes from my house.

Until then SAHM-dom for me!

zippitippitoes · 15/03/2007 17:05

i think xenia is very generous and forgiving for the stick she gest and frequently gives advice to people at great length

when i saw it I thought the thread title was expressing surprise that she managed to spend so much time with children and manage a high powered job ie the op was jealous! ws soon put right on that!

don't they say that married couples spend on average 45 minutes a week talking to each other

I'm sure lots of people spend a lot less time with kids

if you are with them and fed up with them it's hardly worthy of merit

children become independent and you don't see them as much once you don't have to keep an eye on them

CODalmighty · 15/03/2007 17:06

shit i tell ya shit

TeeCee · 15/03/2007 17:07

Eeek, just seen that Fio
but fuck it, had my say anyway!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/03/2007 17:09

I'm at work so dont need to switch off - so I'm not being a shit parent

Im a shit employee though....

CantSlimWontSlim · 15/03/2007 17:10

Zippi - 45 mins a week talking to your dh - surely it must be more than that . Where did you hear that?

Blu · 15/03/2007 17:11

I really don't MN when DS is awake and I'm at home...that is because I am a negligent mother who works f/t and can fit my MN-ing around waiting for other people to answer the telephone, etc!

But as for these SAHMs who spend all day on the 'net....pah - what's the point in having children / being a SAHM???

J20BABY · 15/03/2007 17:11

erm i only work in school hours, but my dd spends a lot of time playing in her room(her choice) and weekends with her dad.

we do sit together in front of the tv while we eat our tea though, but its normally when neighbours is on, so she has to be quiet

how bad am i!!

CristinaTheAstonishing · 15/03/2007 17:16

Only 45 mins a week talking with partner? I wouldn't of married if I'd known that

satinshoes · 15/03/2007 17:19

this is a sh!t thread

zippitippitoes · 15/03/2007 17:20

can't find the stuff about how much time couples spend together ..need a better googler but it was a study or more than one in the nineties i think

franca70 · 15/03/2007 17:22

I really like how the illusion of flexible working is wafted around also. Even in the bottom of the pile nothing is ever flexible
quote of the week contender

ssd · 15/03/2007 17:56

for anyone who didn't see my first apology earlier

SORRY TO ALL THOSE i'VE OFFENDED, DIDN'T MEAN TO AND i APOLOGISE!!

can this thread die a death now?

nogoes · 15/03/2007 18:03

I am a SAHM so obviously I spend more than 2 hours per day with ds. I don't see a problem with spending only 2 hours per day with your lo's, surely if you are working full time you must spend about that? dh spends less time than that with ds during the week.

bundle · 15/03/2007 18:13

cod loves her gavel more than her boys

(you know I don't think that really {{{{{hugs}}}}}})

kittylette · 15/03/2007 18:22

I find this thread a total f*ing bore.

Does that mean I'm not a newbie any more?
