Our 2nd thread is full but it won't prevent us from laughing, moaning, keeping on supporting each other, sharing and chatting over our new life with 1 or 2, even 5 children !
Here you go, fantastic 40+ Mums, a brand new thread for all of us, old friends from the pregnancy thread or new joiners

rosiedays · 26/09/2013 20:57

Oh and I'm just about to start on chocolate cake Grin

EagleRay · 26/09/2013 21:22

Rosie all I can say about your food is yum yum yum! (and throw us a slice of choccy cake please as I can't have any in the house these days)

LRM hope Baby Monkey settles down soon re naps and night sleeping. The separation anxiety will pass soon! (but of course you will always be the most important thing in his life)

Scarecrow I don't blame you for not wanting to share your lovely children. It's weird how stuff that didn't used to exist is now such a big deal. When I went to school there was no school run - the minibus passed the bottom of the garden and you got on it, and don't think I ever had my mum at the school gates. There weren't playdates - we just went outside! oh dear - I sound like a proper sanctimonious old gimmer don't I... Sorry you've had such an awful week - it sounds heartbreaking. Anyway, you've had reassurance from DD that you are indeed the best mummy in the world and she clearly doesn't want to swap you so you must be doing something right Smile

Somewhere interesting that you have mastered the feeding while sleeping thing too. I'm still doing it for the early morning feed as 4.30/5am is just too early to sit up in bed. I love your overthinking school gate style - not unsimilar to dating! Not seen the weaning website before but just taken a look and found it very inspiring. Have to admit to not trying any new foods/recipes with DD for a few weeks which is terrible really. She's living off frozen mini meals that I made in batches, plus porridge fingers or whatever I'm eating. Time to try some new things and expand her tastes a bit!

I found DD really loved holding/guiding the spoon in the early days of weaning but now seems to have tired of it, so is probably a good time to let her feed herself more oh dear god the mess

Goat how adorable and cute is your little helper! And what a difference to the first pic you had on your profile - it always made me feel a bit sad as he looked so impossibly tiny in the photo. He looks like he's caught up and then some!

We've had a lovely afternoon today in the company of Pudding and BabyPud Smile The weather was rubbish so we sat in a cafe and chatted and ate while the babies did their eat/sleep/wake thing. Fab to see you Pudding!

Tomorrow we've got another settling-in session at nursery - am multitasking and visiting a friend nearby while she's there without me. Then (weather permitting) a wildlife shoot! Going to go back to find those dragonflies and get some more photos.

blueblackdye · 26/09/2013 22:27

Good evening everyone, I have been rubbish at posting, reading a lot on the phone but just can't think atm, my brain is a sieve. OT for me too.
A is still not sleeping at nursery, too many activities, she is not grumpy at all, she eats well, playing a lot with everything, just doesn't want to sleep. She feeds herself at nursery but at home I m less keen. I have decided to spend weds afternoons with DS and do fun stuff, otherwise he will end up finding me boring as I have to teach him the subjects he learns at school, yep, homework in reception ! So on Wed, we went to the Wallace Collection, OMG, it felt so strange to see Infant Margarita by Velazquez, I don't know how much time I spent on this painting at school when learning Spanish trying to describe it with as many details as possible, and finally seeing the original was like being punched in the stomach, just like when I saw La Joconde or Guernica. DS was very much impressed by the Perseus and Andromedes by le Titian than the armours, he wanted to hear about the sea monster, the chained woman and the prince with sword and shield. I will have to start reading the Odysseus soon to him !!! Instead of the Anderson tales...

BabyPud and I had a great afternoon hiding from the rain with Eagleray and babyeagle and I got some great tips on holidaying with a 3mo. 5 weeks and counting...

I'm feeling for all of you going through the challenges if settling LOs in school and dealing with school gate politics. It feels like its a lifetime away for us but it'll be here before we know it I'm sure!

Rosie I hope rosebud stopped feeding long enough for you to not your chocolate cake and she gives you some rest tonight.

I'm wrestling an overtired bub now as DH woke her twice through the evening and then after 20 mins of trying to settle her admitted defeat an uttered the words "I've tried everythig and she's tired me out" Shock after 20 mins!! The man has neither stamina nor empathy!! I've left him downstairs on candy sodding crush Confused

GoatBongoAnonymous · 27/09/2013 08:17

Rosie I'd love a piece of that chocolate cake too! Am trying not to put back on the weight I lost when I had the tummy bug, so choc cake out at present. Would help if I didn't have that Wine in the evening too I guess...

Scarecrow your dd sounds wonderful, so creative. Obviously gets that from her mum, who writes so descriptively and wonderfully.

Lrm BG did exactly the same when he started with the childminder, his sleep patterns went out the window. Knackering. He wanted mum in the middle of the night. He settled again, then we went and stuffed it up again with jet lag!! Hope you get some rest this weekend.

Sorry not to name check everyone who has posted, am on phone on train (are you spotting a pattern here). Will answer things in a bit!

GoatBongoAnonymous · 27/09/2013 08:21

Oh and Blush about my piano George. All my pianos have had names - after all, I have a close, hands-on relationship for hours a day with them!
Don't know why he's called George in particular though, I've never asked him...

littleredmonkey · 27/09/2013 09:02

Better nights sleep. He fell asleep on the boob when I went to put him down he woke and had an hours melt down. He slept 8-2:30 then 3 -6

somewherebecomingrain · 27/09/2013 09:40

Omg. Just lost massive post. Want to cry, stuffed with anecdotes and responses.

SadSadSadSadSadSadSad

Ok shorthand version

Bbd - lovely exhibition story, I have one too but can't face writing it again, did you cry at the painting?

School gates ok, posh school which is a first world problem. A great anecdote but no time to tell it. Maybe later

Eagle I want to meet you too. When can we all meet up again.

somewherebecomingrain · 27/09/2013 09:41

Oh yes and massive sympathy pud re MEN!

rosiedays · 27/09/2013 10:02

Good job baby monkey. Hope you feel better lrm for a goodnnight's sleep
pudding what is it with these men and waking babies? ?? Dh does it all the time, usually by dripping cold water and wet rasta in her poor face whilst kissing her. Grrr
goat I've missed back story. Do you play piano professionally? ? How lovely to be able to do somethingy you love all day. Pianos remind me of my grandma's house. :)
eagle Wine to the old days. Our only boundarie was to be home before it was dark Shock
scarecrow Flowers
Dd still on strange sleep/feed fest. .. she is relentless. Very alert and hhappy for the 10 mins she can be bothered to open her eyes for. Then 20 mins full on feed to sleep, then 1hour power nap and ready for next feed fest. It's like new born days again :)
Dh is wanting coffee, hope you all have lovely day xx

rosiedays · 27/09/2013 10:05

Flowers for your post. :(

blueblackdye · 27/09/2013 10:56

In Chinatown for my second breakfast or early lunch. Rosie, your fest made me sooooooo hungry. Needed some Asia ingredients as DS keeps saying how much he loves my Mum's Vietnamese food! Not that I will ever be able to compete with her. So here I am, drop off then went straight to town. Shopping is done, I m treating myself with hot and sour soup at 10.45am!!!! Will be stuffed until 3 at least.
Read all your posts and here is the plan, Sunday breakfast at the Serpentine, walk in the park to Exhibition road and museums, with kids and with or without OH who drive us crazy! Who s up for an impromptue meeting ?
Want to meet all of you too.

rosiedays · 27/09/2013 11:50

Bbd. [Grin] I've never been to China town [embarrassed]
I've been really bad at taking dh to London. He's desperate to go to nat history to see a dinosaur. [ grin]

blueblackdye · 27/09/2013 12:10

Rosie, DS has seen 10000 times the TRex and still wants to see it again ! So we will make the most of London and NHM. You have to take DH to see it, esp if he wants to get British citizenship !
Cooking time now for me.
Somewhere, so sorry about your long lost post.

OP posts:
PuddingAndHotMilk · 27/09/2013 13:31

Sunshine - sorry you lost your post, it's infuriating isn't it?!?
Thanks all for the sympathy re DH and baby waking.

I was thinking about the play date thing the other day while reading a thread on here. I'm sure I just went to friends houses and rang their bell. If it was convenient we played and if not I went home or somewhere else. I am sure that was normal. Is that not how it works now? I had assumed 'play dates' we're either for littluns who couldn't walk to friends or for groups of kids not just one? I know nothing do I?!

scarecrow22 · 27/09/2013 21:20

so I was dusting off an actual computer so I could look at Goat's profile pic of BG thinking "he'd better be worth all this effort"

GoatBongoAnonymous · 28/09/2013 06:33

I really really wish BG would sleep longer. 4:54 this morning! I am wrecked.

Aw, scarecrow!

Sorry you are having such a bad week. Thanks your DD sounds wonderful and so bright - and hard work as so many bright children are! Can you have a break and go do something non-mummy for yourself? Which also reminds me, is anyone up for meeting on Wednesday or the one after? I have gone some looking up places for mobile and energetic small ones in central London...

Rosie I use to be a professional pianist but haven't done any gigs for ages. Sad I really miss it. In fact I barely play at the moment and am struggling to find the time.

somewherebecomingrain · 28/09/2013 07:44

scarecrow sorry re rubbish week. I'm not totally understanding why (I can be dense). Are you putting dd into childcare? Or not and looking after two?

goat weds next week or week after works for me.
bbd were you suggesting this Sunday? I daren't with two and no oh on a busy weekend.

somewherebecomingrain · 28/09/2013 07:50

goat Bg is cuuuute! Mischief in his whole being!

scarecrow what happened to your pics?

GoatBongoAnonymous · 28/09/2013 08:42

BG has manflu!!! Shock A bit of a cold and he is a right grump.

Bbd I missed your post about meeting tomorrow. Alas I can't either. Sounds a lovely day!

Thank you for all the lovely comments re BG. He is indeed tall... Imagine what size he would be if he hasn't been 9 weeks prem!!

rosiedays · 28/09/2013 12:14

Scarecrow sorry you're still struggling. Gosh its tough at times. Can you figure out what you need to make things better? I worked as a solution focused therapis ( as part of my nursing job) years ago and have used what i learnt as a template for dealing with difficult times. It's all about focusing on the solution to the problem rather than the problem or history. lots of positive visualisation and small achievable goals. wish i could help more (hugs)
kk hope things are working themselves out. You a brave and strong woman.

Well Dyson baby has gone (she was rather lovely) and 'I'll just lap at the drips with my tongue while making lots of baby noise' baby is back ( she's lovely too but takes forever to feed ) she has definitely grown. There was a clear line of vest between pj top and bottom this morning that I'm sure was not there last night! !!!

goat i gift you i hour undisturbed piano playing this weekend. Enjoy and let us know what you played. :)

BadMissM · 28/09/2013 19:06

littleredmonkey · 28/09/2013 19:40

Bhb soooo jealous you live near all the best museums. My favorite in the world are London. Egypt Cairo and Washington. Oh Hong Kong history. I love museums

blueblackdye · 28/09/2013 20:09

It s so refreshing to have you all on ths thread. I m in very bad mood so I stay quiet but I follow your adventures.
Glad LRM DH has been so helpful and baby M happy to spend the day with daddy.
BadMiss hello ! Welcome back
Somewhere, I know, 2 kids ot on a Sun is a very stressful perspective, DS has been told several times today that one act of misbehaviour tomorrow and he is handcuffed to the pushchair and we head straight back home. I need air, my house is too oppressive atm.
Rosie, Chinatown is not a unforgettable place, it is just very convenient for me to get some Asian food ingredients, if you come to London I can introduce youwith my best avourite Chinese place on Baker Street.
Scarecrow, we could get together and cry over our rows with respective DH. Or not talk about them at all.
Knotty, thanks, I m just so speechless sometimes by DH reactions that I don't know where to start, my mind is very foggy, lots of webcobs, I don't think I see things clearly, or not yet.
Knicky, hope your communication with DH helps you too moving on together.
Midget, are you better? Have the antibiotics kicked in yet ?
Seaside, hope baby Seaside will be able to celebrate her first birthday soon.
Eagle, I'd be interested in your tip on how to take pics of fast moving toddlers, A wants to hold the camera so not easy to take pics of her...
Goat, where do you want to go next Wed or the following ? I can try to join with DS after lunch, around 1pm.

Will let you know how we manage the outing with 2 ! Xxxxx
