Please help me think of some ideas of some fun things we can do. I seem to have a mental block at the moment and after breakfast in bed I have got a bit stuck.

It is a sad one for us this year as our dad has alz and he is at the stage where he does not know us anymore...... So I will be taking five cards to the hospital and a box of his fav chocolates... The other four are not going but he wont notice...:(

bronze · 14/06/2012 23:30

We're skint so wanted something cheap and thoughtful

Poulay · 15/06/2012 00:15

We have a 'no Fathers Day, it's commercial bollocks' policy, in our family.

RichManPoorManBeggarmanThief · 15/06/2012 06:42

Dh getting a card and a present, and a lie in tomorrow (Sat) as he's staying up late to watch the footie (we live overseas so it's on at midnight).

My dad "doesn't believe in it" so that's easy enough Grin

thatgirlsevil · 15/06/2012 10:37

I let DS make DP a card on funkypigeon...he chose the pictures and dictated the script/scenario to me...as a result the 2nd picture is our cat yawning/chatting about the character General Grievous from Star Wars and the 3rd picture is Danny Devito in a wrestlers one-piece saying "I love my cats Little Edith and Ramona as big as 30 weeks"...it's like a fucking Lynchian nightmare.

I plan on making him brekkie in bed, have also got him a CD (Beach House) and will pick him up some sweeties before Sunday.

Unfortunately DP works every weekend (Tues, Weds is our wkend) but never mind.

Thanks for that link PussyCat - there is one right near me, so we may go there!

DH will be getting bacon butties, roast dinner and apple cake. And a CD he wanted. DD (2.9) will be taking all of the credit!

FoxSocks · 15/06/2012 12:43

off for bike ride in woods and beer tasting at Stowe, National Trust venue!
(in the rain!)

EldritchCleavage · 15/06/2012 13:11

Bit torn. DH did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for Mother's Day (my first with two DC) which I thought was a bit mean. Do I reciprocate, to make a point, or rise above his failure and be the bigger person?
We only do tokens anyway-a homemade card DS scribbles on, some chocolate or home-made biscuits.

IamtheSnorkMaiden · 15/06/2012 13:39

Lie in, bake a ginger cake, give home made cards. That's it.

LizaTarbucksAuntie · 15/06/2012 14:20

Mine won't help I guess,

Doing Race for life in honour of my lovely FIL's amazing and continued recovery (this time last year we didn't think he be around for our wedding at the end of the July)

For my Dad, new CD from his favourite singer which he will be very chuffed with.
For DH small lovely has chosen some locally brewed beers.

We're probably going to go to our local open farm event too as they have and ice cream parlour....

BelfastBloke · 15/06/2012 14:22

Fathers' Day is the deciding day in the Euro 2012 football tournament's 'Group of Death' (the group with the most number of highly ranked teams).

Portugal are playing Holland, and Germany are playing Denmark. Both games kick off at 745.

What I would like, please, is to be able to watch the build-up and the match in peace, surrounded by food/snacks and alcoholic drinks themed around those four countries.

waltermittymissus · 15/06/2012 14:33

Bronze that's bloody brilliant! :)

tostaky · 15/06/2012 14:40

belfast bloke... can i send you my DP? i think know he'd love that too...!!
can you watch the match live on the internet? if so, i might take care of the kids and let him watch at least onematch.

3duracellbunnies · 15/06/2012 14:40

So Port, raw herring, sauerkraut and danish pastry for BelfastBloke then?

bronze · 15/06/2012 14:43

Ugh

Thanks Walter. It's all he's getting Grin

HipHopOpotomus · 15/06/2012 14:57

Bacon I'm in the same boat - Mothers Day was not recognised (excuse was we had been on holiday and only got back the day before!!!!).

HOWEVER I've taken a different tack than you - I'm going to shame him. I think it's my job as a parent to facilitate the kids doing something for Fathers Day (Mothers Day whatever). So he will get breakfast cooked by a minimally supervised 4yo :) and card made by 4yo & 1yo, and a cake again made by 4yo which will be shared with extended family.

I'm secretly hoping b/fast is dreadful and he will have to eat it! (annoyed with DP today)

BelfastBloke · 15/06/2012 15:11

Tostaky, send him over. Yes, you can watch the matches on the internet. They're being broadcast on ITV1 and ITV4, so just go to ITV's equivalent of the BBC iPlayer.

3duracellbunnies, not sure about the raw herring. Can't we have something else? Holland do pancakes very well, to deal with the munchies I suppose. In fact....

HipHopOpotomus · 15/06/2012 15:15

On the inside I'm thinking like bronze but on the outside I'm too PO'ed to really give a toss this week.

bronze I love it! If I did that for DP he would cry.

bronze · 15/06/2012 15:39

Do it hip hop
In fact that remind of the horrible breakfast I was forced to eat on mothers day. I may exact my revenge

Bunbaker · 15/06/2012 15:44

Nothing. OH is going to visit his mum for a couple of days. DD and I have commitments here and MIL isn't getting any younger so OH is doing his filial duty by visiting her. I had forgotten it was father's day.

HipHopOpotomus · 15/06/2012 15:57

actually I think I might skip over to BelfastBlokes with a jay .....
