Australia 190 all out in their first innings

they were saying earlier that if we made it until tea time we had a good chance of winning (well drawing so therefore winning the ashes), as the number of overs which Australia would have to bowl probably wouldn't be enough for them to make up the runs.

we are going to get the Ashes back where they belong.

will we win it if we hold out for today's play? hope so??? we're not that far ahead either, 300 would be more comfortable - the lads will have to play well tomorrow.

QueenOfQuotes · 12/09/2005 15:23

ermmm Munz there is no tomrrow - today is the last day!!

OP posts:
swiperfox · 12/09/2005 15:24

THere's no tomorrow

Today is the last day. If England can hold off til fionish of play today we win. If we are all out, australia have to beat our score by close of play today or they've lost

So it's looking good!!

munz · 12/09/2005 15:28

oh sorry thought there was tomorrow - got my day's muddled up - YAY!!! come on u england!!!!!!!!! fingers crossed for the boys. hopefully.

3 hours to get 230 runs (ish) for australia - tough job - hopefully we'll win it!!!!

munz · 12/09/2005 15:34

has it broke for tea yet?

piffle · 12/09/2005 15:35

oh man how good is todays game....
must get back now....
I'll miss Richie Benaud as a kiwi kid latching onto cricket as a 9 yr old girl he taught me everything I know with his wizened commentary

ediemay · 12/09/2005 15:35

There are still 48 overs, anything could happen, eeeeek. What a series, i will miss it soooooooooo much

ediemay · 12/09/2005 15:37

Mass hug for Pietersen!

munz · 12/09/2005 15:42

yes definatly.

ediemay · 12/09/2005 15:46

This is the end of an era, Channel 4 have brought so much to cricket and I am devastated about it going to Sky. I'll listen to TMS but it won't be the same. Richie going too, so no more of those wise words. I can feel a big sob coming on later! I realy hope cricket returns to free-to-air VERY soon, where it belongs.

This series has been a complete joy - so much good sportsmanship between the teams, ( a lot of it led by the lovely Brett Lee), the genius of Warne and Flintoff, plus England's all-out determination. Oh dear, i think I need an early G&T...

munz · 12/09/2005 15:50

it says target 236 - is that 236 to def win it?? how many overs are left?

ediemay · 12/09/2005 15:51

munz, 236 is waht Aus would have to get if & when they bat. That will keep on increasing as England add more runs

swiperfox · 12/09/2005 15:52

australia have to get us all our first, and then they have to beat 242 (at the moment!)

munz · 12/09/2005 15:52

oh ok thanks, erm lets see - we have 2.5 hours left 263 runs in that time - it can't be done can it???

ediemay · 12/09/2005 15:52

44 overs left, would go til about 7pm ish

munz · 12/09/2005 15:52

236*

swiperfox · 12/09/2005 15:53

44 overs remaining

munz · 12/09/2005 15:54

7 damn we'er ment to be out tonight - not going out till i've seen it finish - will they not stop play at like 6pm or something if our boys manage to get till then b4 all out?

ediemay · 12/09/2005 15:54

It could be done, Aus are brave batsmen, this is what makes cricket so fantastic! They do need to get England out quickly though because the run rate needed per over will be too high otherwise, also they will have to hit out for 4s and 6s and run a big risk of getting out this way.

They will change their batting order to bring better batsmen in earlier in the innings.

ediemay · 12/09/2005 15:56

munz, you don't stop until it's over - ie: you have run out of overs or both sides are all out or 1 side has exceeded the other on the runs total with wickets remaining. Sorry, not explaining this very well. Aus will fight and bat to the bitter end and England's bowlers will chuck everything at them, it will be great.

munz · 12/09/2005 15:58

it's ok ed, i'm not too up on cricket - I just don't see hte point really of aust. starting to bad if there's no tomorrow and only an hour left to play - surely we jsut win! lol - wishful thinkin I think!

hope our lads can do it. they've really worked hard - alhtou so have australia.

ediemay · 12/09/2005 15:59

It will be a very exciting finish munz, either way! Cricket is fab fab fab and if you get the chance, go to a Test sometime, it's such a great day out

munz · 12/09/2005 16:02

poor pieterson must be knackered!

is it 237/7 69.5 overs?

swiperfox · 12/09/2005 16:04

The Australian commentator has just said "Well, I hate to sday it but I think it's now yours"
